When is the First Round of Cuts? (M.E.T. & Merged)

Does anyone know the exact date of the first round of cuts?

And while we are on the subject, there is usually a surprise name that is on that first cut list. I think it was Renaldo Wynn last year. Any guesses as to who it could be this year? I'm going with Todd Wade.

Why cut Todd Wade? He is probably better the this Crummey guy everyone thinks is the next Stephon Heyer.

I'm not necessarily advocating it, I just think it's a possibility, given his subpar season last year, age, and injury situation

So your saying Todd Wade should have went to UMD and needs to be alot younger then we should keep him?

Or

Have VET depth on our active roster and stash Crummey on the practice squad and let him earn his stripes? ...like Heyer did..

Heyer started a bunch of games for us last year- as a rookie. He was not on the practice squad earning his stripes.

It all depends on how the coaches feel about our depth. Wade is injured, old and costs more than a rookie who could very well be doing a better job than Wade. Besides, Crummey plays Guard/Center.

And the point ISN'T that he went to University of Maryland, but the fact that he was rated as high as a 3rd round pick this past season until he hurt his leg. I'm not advocating cutting Wade in favor of him, so stop insinuating. My point is, there were people who though Heyer was a long shot to make the roster because we had good depth already...well, he did and he showed up.

I think his point is that Crummey is eligible for the practice squad, so why cut veteran depth to save a guy that can be stashed away anyway.

I agree with him, I don't think Wade should be cut, but that's not what this thread was started for. I'm just wondering if there is a surprise player who could end up cut in the next couple weeks. I think Todd Wade is a possibility, but it would also be a pretty big surprise.

You have to ba careful with that because another team can still him away as we did with Mix last year. I think this injury could be sealing Wades fate though.... Especially after he didnt hold up very well last year when he had to start.

Because Wade is terrible and often injured . He got a fan club for stepping in for Jansen for 1 game and on the back of that got huge contract . Even when he was healthy last year Heyer and Fabini kept him off the field .

The point of having depth is not just in case someone gets injured this week, but to develop players over a longer period and giving them a chance to compete for a starting spot . Specialist veteran OL can typically be picked up off the street in the season . No they will not be stars but anyone worth a damn will be starting somewhere .

As a back up player you have to be both reliable willing to play anywhere and at anytime . With Wade all that roster space gives you is an injury prone RT with a decent size salary cap to back up Jansen . He has no experience anywhere else along the OL and trials at moving him inside were a disaster . I must say I am not that up on Crummey but what you are looking for is someone who could be put anywhere, this makes players like Alexander so valuble because he can play in all three phases of the game .
