Guest SuicideShark
Whats everyone's thoughts on picking Kenny Phillips? Would picking a safety from Miami with the 21st pick be an insult or honor Sean Taylor?
Digger
Neither, just a bad idea by the FO.
skinfan4ever
If they drafted a Saftey, I think it would be somebody who could play Corner also, like Reggie Smith from Oklahoma. But if they did draft Phillips, it wouldn't be an insult or an honor, just the player the FO thought would help them the most.
Spade
I think with the first pick they would pick the best player available, and if it's him I think they would do it.
redskins59
Safety is not our biggest need. Picking another safety is a bad idea. Reed Doughty is good enough.
Soup
Way too high for kenny. Some MOck drafts have him going in the 2nd round around the 15th pick. Yeah he is a talent and a steall if he falls 21st in the second round.
tritx3
retread.. but i wouldn't mind picking him up if he's the best available player.
illone
Phillips does NOT have a first round grade. If the Skins pick him at 21 it would be one of the biggest reaches in draft history. And I respect what Taylor did for the team but the fans don't have to freak out everytime the number 21 pops up. I mean really, do you have a moment of silence when you are at the casino and hit blackjack?
1972FAN
You know, It just depends who's left when we pick. "Is this pick equal to the talent level at this selection". that simple. Off course sometimes a freak thing happens like with Brady Quinn. I'm sure the Redskins would consider the player, I hope they would trade out of the pick if a DL, WR or CB of fair value is not there.
Guest SuicideShark
So some one like Rodgers-Cromartie, if availible would be a better pick?
angel2
Whats everyone's thoughts on picking Kenny Phillips? Would picking a safety from Miami with the 21st pick be an insult or honor Sean Taylor? Not with a SAFETY! That's something you just don't do. There was only one SAFETY in the history of the game: Sean Taylor. Why insult his memory with an inferior Safety? Say you didn't post that! skinfan4ever
So some one like Rodgers-Cromartie, if availible would be a better pick? Yes he would, but his stock has risen so much that the chances of him being available at the 21st pick are slim to none.
expensivegift
I was thinking about that but I don't think he is as good as Sean Taylor or even Brandon Merriweather.
BAFGA
This has been discussed quite a bit on here. I say no to Kenny Phillips, and you should, too.
DesertWrestler
Phillips will more than likely be off the board by 21. I've been waiting for this thread to come up. Though he'd be a great player and paired with Landry he could become a huge threat to receivers it is just not our biggest need.
Truant
I'm pretty open this draft. We have a lot of holes. But this would be one of the picks that would really grate at me. Reaching for a safety is not what the doctor ordered. ST lived a good life and is remembered properly, with respect. What we do with the #21 pick should have nothing to do with his tragic passing. Rawdawg
Phillips was hailed as the only safety with a real high grade about 12 weeks ago, but now with everyone else's stock rising, the skins don't need to use their first rounder on him. I mean, if he falls, then let him slip to the mid second and they can always trade up 6-10 spots to grab him if they think he is really that much of an improvement, but bottom line, you can't waste the 21st pick on second round value. Rawdawg
Plus, you can't forget, the gap in talent between him and say Tommy Z from Notre Dame is that gap larger than the gap between a first and 4th round value...probly not, it's better value to take a higher graded player in the 1st and grab a second or third tier safety in the later rounds where they will exceed their drafted value.... [[ghost]]
Safety is not our biggest need. Picking another safety is a bad idea. Reed Doughty is good enough. Landry wasn't a need last year. Make that 21st pick count. The rest of the pics till the 5th round should be strictly needs, but the 1st Round is always a good time for BPA. Yeen80
Not with the 21st pick. I'd love for him to slip into the 2nd round however.
DCchillin89
Bad Idea. There is a chance we may trade up in the second round to get him because he will probably fall that far. There are plenty of serviceable safeties in the draft
Beer is Food
Kenny Phillips was rated in the top 15. I've seen him in Mock drafts go from 12 to late in the the 1st, and in the earlier Mdrafts he was rated in the top ten. If he drops to 21, I expect the skins will pick him up. The draft is thin at safety and I'm not sold on Reed Doughety. Doughety played real well at SS late in the year but he doesn't have much range, and got abused at FS. He kinda of reminds of Alvin Walton... in the sense that if teams figure out how to isolate him in coverage- he's going to be consistently beat. I hope I'm wrong... but regardless- if Phillips drops to 21, I bet the skins take him. BPA
Laron Burgundy
I would love to see us use the first pick on brandon albert and try to trade up in the 2nd to land Phillips or fellow miami alum Calais (or quite a few other players whose stock has dropped recently). A safety I like is Dajuan Morgan out of NC State. The guy was the 3rd leading tackler on the team two years ago when he didn't even start and he led the team in tackles this year. He's as much of a physical specimen as Phillips and he is very instinctual in defending plays. I don't think Phillips lasts til our 2nd round pick but Morgan should. TMat184
I think we are gonna play alot of cover 1 with Landry deep roaming sideline to sideline... What you need for a D like that is a SS that is strong in run support and a sure tackler, is Phillips either? I don't know. Reed is pretty solid in both instances so I'd be more inclined to sure up our lines :2cents:
