Some other stuff in there about the cap, Briggs, DJ Hackett and other free agents. But I thought the tidbit about Florence was interesting because I hadn't heard it before.

Wouldn't mind that move as a security blanket for Rogers injury... replace Macklin. In fact I wouldn't mind at all if they just get this guy, Hackett and address both lines in the draft.

Give the new staff a year to get comfortable and then see what they need after that.

I am not enamoured with Florence. My buddy is a Chargers fan and we watch the Redskins then Chargers games together whenever they play in opposite timeslots (which happens alot). Florence is always the guy getting beat, his closing speed is average at best and that was the ONLY good hit he has had in his career.

I say save money, as Florence is the 2nd best FA CB, and draft a CB later in the draft (5th, 6th round) for depth. There will always be a guy that drops in every position.

That was a nice hit, he laid out the Lions were getting their butts destroyed in that one. They guy seems like good depth so i would say that he could probably play a backup nickel role or possibly special teams, this isn't a shoe-in starter.

Like many other posters here, I am also worried that his price tag will rise because of the lack of availability of other quality CBs. Every other team in the league will be taking a look at him, and we can't compete (salary wise) because of our current cap situation.

I would love to have him, but I think we'd better focus on the draft instead

we can always make a modest offer and if he wants to play with us then awesome, if not he goes.

Agreed....I think Florence will at least get a $7 million bonus and I think that's oo much for a #3 corner. You can get a vet one year stop gap post June 1st to fill the hole until Carlos is ready.

We could afford to either let springs go or move him to safety and he could help play nickle too cus we could interchange him and Doughty.

I dont see how you could lose with this.

You could draft a CB in the later round cus we still have Leigh Torrence who impressed me last year, We still have SMOOOOOOT and Los' will be ready prob in october

Wouldn't mind Drayton Florence at all as long as he doesn't do stupid penalties like he had in the New England playoff game a couple years ago. But these are the kind of players we have to sign. I'd love to take a shot on Hackett, he could be a real steal

If Florence is signed it will be to replace Springs, no way does he come here to be the no. 3 or 4 guy.

Hypothetically, if Florence were to replace Springs, the roster would not have a true no.1 shutdown corner on it, but there would be 3 solid no.2 types in Florence, Smoot & Rogers.

Even with Springs still on the roster, we don't have a true reliable shut down corner. Because Springs isn't a shut down corner.

That's what Smoot was given as a #3 corner last season. In the age of pass happy offensive schemes, a nickel corner might as well be considered a starter with the amount of snaps they are in on.

Florence has all kinds of tools, but any Chargers fan you talk to indicates that he gets beaten like a drum. Regularly. He may be the 2nd best CB available in FA, but why spend the money on a 27 year old who will be our 4th best CB?

The only place I find myself disagreeing a little is in the round we address CB. With question marks surrounding Rogers and Springs moving into the future (and Smoot, too, for that matter), I think we need a little bit higher talent level than we'd find in the 5th or 6th. I'd love to pick up our CB in the 3rd, which could be any number of guys like Brandon Flowers or Terrell Thomas or Chevis Jackson (my personal favorite). One of those guys in addition to a DE (Merling) and an OG (Albert) would make me a happy draft-day 'Skins fan.

--The Redskins have restructured tackle Jon Jansen's contract, converting base salary to bonuses and saving about $3.1 million against the cap, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The team is now about $4 million over the cap but with the contracts of Mark Brunell and Rock Cartwright voiding next week, they are essentially in compliance. I think this would be a great move and could come as a real bargain. Not only that, but on the off chance we don't retain Springs this would be a good potential replacement. I know Blache wants to keep Springs, but that may not end up happening.
