mi6
Wish we blitzed more, and put more pressure on the QBs. Good offensive teams will tourch us ... we need help at CB/DB. Smoot, and Rogers are not good!

PrimetimeHero
I agree. But I did expect more blitzs. . Isn't our defense structured around the blitz? Area 51 around the edges for the huge career ending sack?

nneece
They talked about it on the post game show. GW and staff had a lot of respect for Green and his ability to read the blitz. Also, the corners were struggling a little bit on the outside by themselves. They give Green too much credit. Not that he isn't a crafty veteran but he has been with the team, what, a total of 4 weeks. The Dolphin's would experience break downs in formation if we had applied any type of pressure on them. BAFGA
Why so little blitzing? Maybe because we didn't have to? I mean, look at that intentional grounding by Green when there was no pass rush whatsoever.
Omnishank
The running game of the 'fins was held in check, and the skin CB's were'nt exactly putting on a grand show the entire game,so bltizing leaves man to man against a less than stellar secondary...maybe GW knows something we didnt, almost like he knows the team or something.Last year blitzing didnt help much, perhaps he is switching his philosophy to better use the defense potential, and if it has to do with fear...than im scared too.Trust me ,he will use Landry to his full potential later on blitz schemes, and concussions will be another priority on the NFL table
Ruggala
Why so little blitzing today? Was it because Green was primarily doing quick dinky type passes?Seriously, our secondary just isn't good enough to give a QB all day back there to throw passes. While Carter did get pressure, Green had the luxury of just stepping into the fully formed pocket to avoid him. Cause we don't have a defensive line smart guy. skins4eva
Guys, Step back for a minute here. Greg Williams obviously had a game plan for this team. It was to stop the run and make Trent Green beat them (done and done.) There really wasn't a need to blitz drastically--we kept everything in front of us and stopped the run. Green couldn't go deep down the field all day. I thought we executed the game plan very well--don't worry, there will be blitzing at some point. Saqs
Maybe because we blitzed like crazy last year and got burned repeatedly for it ending up with the worst D in the league statistically? Just maybe....

While Carter did get pressure, Green had the luxury of just stepping into the fully formed pocket to avoid him. When your opponent is mostly throwing underneath stuff, he's looking for broken tackles or hoping you give come at some bad angles so even when you make the tackle, the guy gets a couple of more yards. You stop that hope by letting him throw the dink stuff but making sure tackles (this means you keep your DBs off the ball and don't blitz). Also, Green is good at reading the blitz (or at least GW thought he was) which would mean he'd have been able to hit short passes that would have turned into big gainers. jnhay
It was kinda frustrating to see the Dolphins controlling the field when it should have been us having the Dolphins at their heels, trying to guess where we'd come from next.
ntotoro
Cause we don't have a defensive line smart guy. Must have been the secondary holding them to under 70 yards rushing...

Our Offense did have the ball longer than Miami and it could have been more, save a few butterfinger WR's of ours and Smoot apparently attending the Carlos Rogers school of Intercepting passes this offseason. Darth Tater
This isn't making much sense. First we don't blitz because they're dinking and dunking. If the DBs know this, why would they give such a big cushion? It almost looks like GW expects the other team to stop themselves if they keep dinking and dunking. This happened against the Dolphins, but against a better team it won't. Because, when your dinking it, I want my backs to be coming down vertically to make the tackle (any corner coming horizontally to make a takle will almoster certainly miss the tackle or make a bad one) or cut off an angle the receiver has after the catch so is likely to run into a backer or a safety.
