LiveStrongSkins
I like Kerney. People forget how good he is. He still has about 4-5 good years left in him. If we got him and landed Branch I'd be extremely excited.
MRMADD
The trouble is that he voided those years so he can GET PAID. He's a guy I'd love to have, but only at the right price.
Brandon Lloyd Christmas
i dont know much about kearney, but i do know that 2 of his last 3 seasons hes missed half of the season. plus hes 30, and i dont see how a 30 year old guy who is coming off a season ending injury has 4-5 good years left in him. Wyndorf25
When Kerney is healthy (which hasnt been too often the past couple of years) he is a difference-maker on defense from the DE spot. Great pass-rusher, pretty good run defender and he seems to possess very good leadership skills--something every defense could use more of including this one. The age and history of injuries gives me pause, plus factoring in that he is looking to cash in at the twilight of his career makes him a risky FA though. I read somewhere that the Skins might buck the trend and resist many high-profile FA signings this year. I would think that Kerney would be the type of player Snyder would have flown down to go wine, dine then sign in past years. WIll it be any different this year? Loyal2Washington
~ ~ any takers ? ? Sure, about 2-3 years a go. Only problem with Kerney is his recent injury problems and overall lack of production. I'd like him as a depth kinda guy but it would be asking a lot of him to come in and be a play maker for 16+ games at this point in is career. He doesn't really have a history of being injured, I don't know where that comes from. From 1999 - 2005 he played in 16 games each year. Last year he played in only 9 but I wouln't really call that a history of being injured. http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/133336

Loyal2Washington
how do you void your own contract? don't you usually have to have a hold out or something? It was a built in option in his contract. It is acutally a common occurance.
Blackest Eyes
he could be a good pickup and i am sure that we would overpay for him like we do everyone else. I just hope we get something good out of our draft pick this year. good lord...a starting rookie would be nice for a change. Rocky not starting was a big disappointment. Dude, can't you read? His NFL.com player page clearly says he played 16 games in 2004 and had 13 sacks that year. The only time he's missed was last year. He played in 9 games. Tastes Like Chicken
We need youth, not a 30-year old with health issues. I'll pass.
dfitzo53
I like Pat Kerney, but this sounds like every other aging free agent we bring in. If it works, it will only work for a couple of years. If it doesn't, he's probably going to want a lot of money to sit on the bench.

Brandon Lloyd Christmas
i have no clue what link youre looking at (i didnt click because i use espn) but here is his year by year stats. 04 he played 8 games and had 7 sacks. hes never even had 13 sacks in a season, he had 12 in 01. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=1782

Brandon Lloyd Christmas
wow so i just looked at his NFL page, it says he played a full season, yet espn says he did not. anyone know which source is right? i think espn might have wrong info, he was a pro bowler in 04 so he must have played a whole season, so damn you espn for giving me bum info. either way, he is coming off of an injured season, and hes 30. NO MORE OLD GUYS ON THE D-LINE!!!

Maybe I am reading something wrong. Link to the information you are looking at? Yup, you are right when he was 27 he had a great year. When he was 28 it was an okay year and when he turned 29 it went down hill even further. Are those the same stats you're looking at as well? What do you think will happen when he turns 30? Expecting a 30 year old to produce like he is 27 is completely far fetched and the core problem of this organization. Pay somebody based upon what they accomplished 3 seasons ago and hope they catch lightening in a bottle again. If Kerney comes cheap then he might be a possible DE stop gap for a year, with Daniels, but if the team is going to give away a 15 million dollar signing bonus to a DE, I'd rather it be to a 22 year old in Anderson or Adams. He's a guy I'd love to have, but only at the right price. maybe he voided his contract because he has been playing for the Atlanta Falcons. No QB,bad WR's,lost O line coach, new rookie head coach,Abraham is a bum and I believe the rest of the line is going to be FA's.He just hit 30 and might wanna win a SB and he ain't doin that in the A T L.Maybe he would come in for less, hes a good player that I'de like to see in our rotation and if he made it to week 9 next year, then JA should be ready to start.
