Hooper
You can't pay your backup 5 mil a year. That would be insane, especially with our cap situation. Gibbs needs to tell Mark he has to reduce his salary significantly or be released. My prediction: Gibbs doesn't do it.
REDSKINSQ
brunell should get cut along with about 7 other waste products... i would rather our 7th round draft pick be our backup next year.
CPortJGibbs89
I would really hope so because is this the year that we might actually go into cap hell. Imagine what we could have done with the cap last year since we obviously didnt have cap hell and we made some smart free agent choices. But back to the topic, Brunell better take a pay cut or that is just freaking retarded.
kappaluvacee
Brunell shouldn't get a paycut, he needs an uncoditional release or a retirement package that will save us on the Cap hit. He shouldn't wear a skins uniform again. All it will do is Gibbs more thoughts about reinserting him back into the starting line-up.
Buck812
What are they paying at McDonalds these days? He may have enough arm strenth left to still flip a burger......

chef8181
No he won't and Brunell wouldn't take one. Time for Mark to retire. If we keep him around Gibbs may want to start him next season.
cosmopolitianbloodloss
I hope Gibbs asks Brunell to take a roster cut. Matter-o-fact, I hope he just gives it to him. Don't even have to ask.
wpenn1
he should ask brunell to give some money back
pjfootballer
Every year contracts are reworked. Brunell won't be the exception. Most of the time if the player doesn't agree to a pay cut (contract rework) they usually get cut.
Sarge
Brunell would be lucky to get league min from anyone else He has to take a cut or start selling cars

CustomApparelDirect
Brunell should get cut - along with about 7 other "waste products"... CustomApparelDirect
Brunell shouldn't get a paycut; he needs an unconditional release - or a retirement package that will save us on the Cap hit. He shouldn't wear a Redskins uniform, EVER-again. All it will do is give Gibbs more thoughts about re-inserting him into the starting lineup. You, too: Stop "reading" my mind!!! :applause:
mmoore
I could be wrong, but I thought that Brunnell signed a 3 year contract when he was brought in, making this his third year in the deal
mistertim
Brunell would be lucky to get league min from anyone elseHe has to take a cut or start selling cars :applause: Exactly. I hope he isn't delusional enough to think he can land another starting job anywhere in the league now; letalone at a salary anywhere near what we're paying him to be a backup. To be honest, I'd prefer it if he just retired (even though I doubt it will happen) so Gibbs doesn't get any ideas about starting him again. woodbridge kid
Brunell was signed for 43 million for 7 years and got an 8 million dollar signing bonus...but I think he restructered his contract last offseason
TankRizzo
Something will absolutely have to happen w/ Brunell this offseason. He'll either re-structure or be cut. Based on the man love, I think he'll probably take the pay cut and keep us all on pins and needles for another year. I want him gone much the same way the team needed to cut ties w/ Danny Wuerffel. woodbridge kid
The transcript of Brunell's interview with Gibbs in 2004-- Gibbs : can you throw a deep out anymore? Brunell: no Gibbs : can you throw a deep post anymore? Brunell: no Gibbs : do you have good field vision? Brunell no Gibbs : can you throw a 5 yard screen pass? Brunell: yes Gibbs: your hired, how does 43 million over 7 years with an 8 million signing bonus sound? Brunell: fine , but what about Ramsey? Gibbs : Ramsey was named Scholar Athelete of the year by the college football hall of fame his senior year at Tulane, he isn't smart enough...he won the bronze medal in the Javelin throw at the junior Pan Am Games..his arm isn't strong enough. Brunell: great!!that means I get the starting job. Gibbs : Mark Brunell: yes Joe. Gibbs : I love you Brunell : I love you too, joe.
banks979
And this would be different then paying him as our backup in 05 how? I HOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE he retires in the offseason, but I wouldn't be suprised to see him make a play for the starting role in the offseason again (ala 05). I mean the majority of the past 3 years of performances haven't made him think about retirement yet....what exactly will?
TLusby
I would be for that since his deadcap space would be about $2.5M for 2008 if cut after June 1st 2007. He would be a good mentor and possibly a QB coach.
