UpNorth
I was at The Beer Store the other day (here in Canada we have to buy beer at stores called The Beer Store, you can't get it anywhere else) and I was wearing a Jets hat. The buy behind me, in his late 50's and smelling like he'd had a few, made a comment about the hat so we got to talking. I ended up talking to the guy for a good 10 mins outside the store and he was asking about Lumsden and talking about Kaczur (O-line for the Pats who is also Canadian) and he ended up mentioning to me that he spent 1 year playing for the Skins. It was the first time I;d ever met this guy so I don't remember his name. He told me he played QB and it was when Theisman was on the team. He said the situation was such that he was on a CFL team that year and the 'Skins lost 2 QBs either in training camp or during the season. He said they called him to be the 3rd string QB, and that he never played that year, but was on the team. He also mentioned knowing Riggins, and said he and Theisman have not spoken in a while but thet Joe still remembers him. And he told me (and I think this is a stretch), that he was the only QB that the coaches said they had ever seen who could throw a ball end zone to end zone. So, do any of you hardcore fans ever remember a Canadian QB playing for Washington when Theisman was there? I think...THINK... not sure though, that his last name MIGHT be Robbins..... He told me that the rest of his career was spent in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger Cats (Lumsden team last season)....so there you go....is it true or is it BS? Nobody by that name ever played for Hamilton, at least according to their website. There was a Peter Ribbins but I don't see him in the NFL. gutlead74
whoa whoa whoa WTF were you doing wearing a jets hat:mad:  sorry the best i have to contribute. oh yah i have a player question in virginia beach i lived on stewart drive and my next door neighbor had every friggin toy on the market (i was 5 maybe) anyway he said his dad was a kicker for the redskins, he had pictures of him on the bench in his uniform i believe i remember number 8 maybe??? any way i remember his last name being Wells. if i had to guess he was a camp kicker for preseason. this would have been about 82 when i saw the picks and the boy said he was at the game so (he was about the same age) i am thinking maybe 80 81 some where in that time frame? I compared the entire historical Tiger-Cats roster http://www.ticats.ca/index.php?module=page&id=4016 to the entire Redskins historical roster. http://www.redskins.com/team/history-roster.jsp I looked for overlaps. Keeping in mind, of course, that some common names might represent two different people, here are the results of that analysis. Years and position represent when they were with the Redskins. The Tiger-Cats did not have that information. NOBODY on this list is a quarterback. Maybe this guy was cut in preseason? I did some research on this and couldn't find any mention of a QB by that name on the Redskins roster during the Theismann and Riggins era and also played with the Hamilton Tiger Cats after that. As far as I see it is BS. Ed Rubbert doesn't even match that. I also crosschecked all the backups listed on the squads throughout those years and none matched that criteria.
