Because nothing goes together like families and firepower

Good thing the neighbors didn't call the cops, they would have been seriously outgunned

I'm sure they're on private property

Now, if clinton were in charge......................

I recognize Sarge and BlueTalon... but where's Mass?

zoony,

Actually I've been to a couple of these events in the past. Harvard Rod & Gun Club in Harvard, MA has two of these events every year. One in the spring and one in the fall. They're called Machine Gun shoots and they're an ABSOLUTE BLAST!!!! It costs like $10-15 to get in the gate, and for some of the firearms there is an additional fee to cover ammunition usage. It's always predominantly fully-automatic firearms with some of the semi-auto military firearms and heavy weapons (grenade launchers, cannon, etc...) there as well.

SAFETY is always the highest priority of the people running the event. Even the slightest violation of the rules is cause for IMMEDIATE dismissal from the range. Many of the people allowing their firearms to be used are well versed in the historical aspects of the firearms and often are as interested in talking about the guns as in shooting them.

The possession of fully automatic firearms and heavy weapons IS NOT denied by the laws of the US Government. It IS highly regulated, requires special permitting, and is subject to state and local restrictions as well. The people who go through all the hassle to get these permits generally do so because they find enjoyment in shooting these firearms. These events are designed so that these people can share that enjoyment of the shooting sports and to educate other people on what these firearms really are like.

It can be quite amazing to see the change in people at these events. People who show up wanting to see the "militia practice" and looking for some reason to shut the event or the range down who, by the end of the day, are taking home range membership applications and looking for information on acquiring a firearms license.

If any of you ever have the opportunity to attend one of these events, I highly encourage it. They're a lot of fun, they can be very educational, and if nothing else, you'll get to meet some interesting people.

Actually, there are very specific limitations on where this type of shooting can be done. In Massachusetts, for example, there are probably about a half dozen to a dozen shooting clubs in the entire state where this sort of event can be held. Shooters are required to notify the local Police Department the day before the fully automatic shooting is to be done. They are then required to call both before they start shooting and after they finish shooting on the scheduled shooting day.
