wilbur58z
From the Post: Gibbs contacted safety Matt Bowen last week to inform him the team intends to release the veteran, according to Bowen's agent. This at the bottom of a story for Wednesday's paper that just rehashes the Redskins free agency situation with or without a new CBA.
CRobi21
I think we all saw this coming, his salary was too big and he is injury prone, good news that we cut him
SkinsForLife260
Wasnt the same after the injury. Thanks for not causing drama and playing hard matt. Best of luck.
Walking Deadman
From the end of the season, it's been pretty well assumed that Bowen was going to be a CAP casualty anyway.......CBA or no CBA. Same with Harris, Raymer and Noble. And alot of people thought LA would be removed or restructured. and Ramsey a goner........
Peregrine
yeah this was a pretty obvious cut. Him, combined with Harris, Noble and Raymer save us almost 6.7 million in cap room.
carter23
i was pretty excited when we originally got him.. he had just had a pretty good season and was everywhere during the packers-falcons playoff game.. i thought we had gotten a above average young S... oh well, good luck matt
Jman1119446
He was a great player, when he was healthy. Then the injury bug got him, and he never really got back to his previous level. It is sort of sad to see him go. I hope he does well some where else
TheREALJBird
We saw this coming....he had an alright tenure with us, esp. in 04, time to move on
visionary
I saw that too, about forty or so minutes ago. Not much in the way of a shock, but interesting that they mentioned it here instead of in the last article when the other three upcoming cuts were mentioned first. (Not to go off track, but they also mention the cap as being at 108 if an agreement is come to. )
triple569
In our first game of the '04 season he was everywhere doing everything. Then he was struck by the injury bug and it all went downhill.
Nemosapien
good, saves a lot of cap room, and puts the Redskins in position to re-sign Clark
az1041
Walt Harris was also listed in that post article...
visionary
In our first game of the '04 season he was everywhere doing everything. Then he was struck by the injury bug and it all went downhill. He's had trouble with taking the wrong direction ever since that game. And he was sat out for most of the latter part of last season. Bowen will however always be remembered as the guy who knocked Trung Canidate out in training camp in 2003.

LApunkrocker72
This is definitely not a surprise. When we first signed Bowen, I liked the move because I thought he would be a fixture at safety for years to come. And he showed promise in 2003 only to be derailed by the injury bug. Good luck in your post-Skins career, Matt.
elkabong82
Sucks. I liked Bowen. He was a very energetic player and could make an impact when needed. Ever since the injuries started adding up it has been downhill. Too bad. Bowen will be missed. Hopefully he can rehab well and fight for a starting position elsewhere. Best of luck! redmo002
He was average before the injury. He really hasn't come back fully after his injury. Glad to cut him and get more cap space.
