What the Mediots don't understand

If the same Redskins team that played the Bears had shown up to play the Cowboys they'd have lost. So the Mediots picked the Cowboys. Unfortunately for them, an improved Redskins team showed up. One that found out they CAN score.

Now, if that same Redskins team had shown up to play the Seahawks they'd have lost. So the Mediots picked the Seahawks. Unfortunately for them, an improved Reskins team showed up. One that found it's offensive identity and moved the ball consistently and dominated time of possession.

Now, if that same Redskins team shows up to play the Broncos they would probably play them even. But the Mediots pick the Broncos anyway because they don't learn their lesson. Unfortunately for them, an improved Reskins team is going to show up. One that has found it's offensive swagger and potency. Score: Skins 24, Broncos 17.

This team continues to improve and will improve again this week. They haven't reached their full potential yet. The offense is going to take another step up this week and the defense is going to find a way to get Arrington more involved and get some heat on the opposing team's QB.

The next week, against the Cheifs, you'll start to see the Skins play like they are capable of playing. Then, against the 49ers, the Skins will have their first blowout victory of the year because this team just continues to get better.

I like your logic, especially since it makes sense.

It amazes me that the media has missed the real story of the Seattle game: the Skins dominated through the air and they did so by posting insane third down numbers against one of the league's best third-down defenses. It's the little trends like this inside the overall games that point out which teams are on the rise and which teams aren't. The Skins are getting better and gaining confidence, both of which feed off one another.

And let's not forget this very important trend: we had 2 penatlies on Sunday. That's it, just 2! And the second of those was the dealy of game on the field goal in overtime. Welcome to Joe Gibbs football.

Except when injuries intervened ('88), Gibbs' teams have always gotten better down the stretch, unlike a certain Norvo the Clown whose teams were famous for late season collapses.

Late season? How about late game! Norv teams are always great on the first couple of drives, then they fall apart. Once he gets past his pre-scripted plays and the defense gets a look at what his game plan is, it's all over. He seems incapable of any game-day adjustments.

What I don't get is why so many "mediots" keep predicting not only that the Skins will lose, but that the team they're playing will score so much...against both Dallas and Seattle, there were numerous predictions of those teams scoring 23-24 points, a few times even more than that. But the Skins defense is known for keeping ALL teams, no matter how good, from scoring many points.

Only Philadelphia and Green Bay last year scored more than 21 points on this defense, and Philly had scored only 14 going into the 4th quarter while Green Bay only went over 21 because of an interception deep in the Skins territory late in the game. The Skins have gone nine games now without an opponent scoring more than 18 points...does this fact just not sink into their heads when predicting the score??

Agreed, to take it a step further, in order to be a good third down defense you have to be a good defense on first and second down don't you. If you are a good third down defense you probably aren't finding yourself in third and one very often. We put up good numbers on a good "All Around Defense" last Sunday. Our offensive unit outplayed our defensive unit for the first time in 2 years.

No, Unfortunatley we are one of the most disrespected teams in the NFL. The friggin Bears and 49ers get more highlights than we get and that is this year!

I heard last year how we stunk from those high and mighty Eagle fans. The truth is that are defense was great and if our offence had showed up at all we would have been 10-6 or 11-5.

Last year I heard how good teams fnd ways to win and this year I am hearing how lucky we were to win against Dallas and Seattle. You can't have it both ways and that's what really makes me mad! The announcers after Sunday's game said that we won despite our best efforts to give the game away. No mention as to the fluke interception and the defence making a stand in the last 1:23 and how the offence took the ball in overtime and did what all good teams do....ENDED IT!!!!!!

The redskins didnt dominate through the air... they put up 17 points and mediocre numbers...

But yes, they have improved every week and hopefully Gibbs fixes the playcalling this week.

Fixes the playcalling? What game were you watching?

Because they just look at the score and don't realize that to get that many scores on the 'Skins, you'd need to come up with several big plays and that's not going to happen. They don't realize that its points that our offense isn't scoring, the defense isn't out on the field so long that its going to break come late third/fourth quarter.
