  1. Always knew they had to clear Watts 17 Mil off the books, but assumed it would be via trade. Good on them to honor JJ's desire to fully pick his next destination. Speaks volumes about the Watson situation. The Texans know what they are right now. This is a signal flare to other NFL teams as well. This move puts Hou under the cap, so they can afford to wait it out beyond the start of FA from a financial standpoint now, but this should light a fire in the Watson steam engine Oh.... and no more hot takes about Watson bailing on his team
  2. Man I hope the short term IR is here to stay. It makes all the sense in the world and would be a massive boon for injury riddled teams like ours.
  3. Another virtual off season would have a major impact on a rookies ability to instantly contribute, especially one that is raw. We will know more on that front moving forward but that would have to be hard on a young slinger if it holds. As for the QB competition, I'd think Allen has the inside track at starting. We have already seen a QB comp between him and TH in CAR and it resulted in Taylor being knocked off the roster in 2019 by Allen and Will Grier (Allen was QB2). This is all after he was ahead of Allen on the depth chart in 2018 when Allen was an UDFA, starting games before Allen did. While Taylor was heavily limited over the offseason due to injury, he was healthy enough to participate in preseason games before being cut. Maybe they felt he could not hold up, maybe they liked the other guys better, who knows. Whatever Allen does/did in practice, it warranted an organization to choose him over Taylor, and prompted his former coaches to specifically acquire him via trade while making no attempt to sign the other guy until well after he was available, even after the XFL folded. I'm not sure Smith is here next year and between the remainder, only one guy has managed to stay in the NFL. I'd feel hard pressed to see the guy who won the QB battle just 2 years ago, lose it now with all things being equal. If Allen does not get a 2 year deal, that could effect the choices made, but if he does, I like him on the inside track with no other QB acquisitions involved. Edit: Assuming the injury recovery remains on track
  4. Love to have him but we would have to put his 10x great grandchildren thru space Harvard to come here with our QB situation. Feels a bit like the A Cooper scenario again. May need to focus on more mid tier options. Unless we can make a move before FA. Still plenty of time. Gotta be prepared for any scenario so I am glad they are still eyeballing high end talent at the WR position. With multiple roadmaps, transitioning forward would be seamless.
  5. We are in the same place at QB we were a week ago. No reason to change trajectory our outlook on our plans. Only one domino has fallen so far this off season. It is not a sure thing that you will go hungry at a feeding frenzy when no one is eating. Just gotta continue to remain patient and more deals will come along in time. Already starting to see teams make the cap conscious choices in a crunch year. Should wiggle a few more trees as teams start making longer term plans.
  6. Sadly, looks like we are getting closer and closer to a Snyder fine and suspension, and the NFL sweeping this whole thing under the rug and doing their best to look the other way. I'm also feeling less and less confident that we will get a full breakdown of everything the investigation found
  7. I look at it differently. Dallas has had the opportunity to sign Dak for the last several offseasons. Dak even went the good little soldier route when his own teammate, in a similar situation, held out in Mexico and forced Dallas' hand. He watched them pay his top WR and DL instead of him. Dude has every right to ask for whats his, and he is going to bend Jerry over a barrel. The whole NFL knows he would instantly become the 2nd highest paid QB in the league if he hits FA, so that will be the lowpoint of the negotiations with Dallas. It does not matter that he is not a top 5 QB, that will be the going rate for his services. Just like Cousins.
  8. First thing I ask a guy in a cast is "how did it happen" and before he tells me I cut him off with "If it does not start with I went for the backflip on my motorcycle, but..." Your doing it wrong. Using the back of a parked car carrier trailer as a ramp is also acceptable
  9. We all knew TH would be back, but the knee jerk reaction says that a 2 yr 8.75 M deal for Taylor is a massive overpay. He would have been a RFA and we would have had to opportunity to match the offer any other team gave him. I'd be hard pressed to see any team in the NFL give him that much money. In actuality, its starting to look like those are the numbers Taylor can receive if he hits all of his incentives, which are highly tied to playing time. If he gets there, he probably earned it... or every other QB was devastated by injury/covid and he managed to stay healthy. I'd like to see the base numbers of the deal, but this is starting to look like it has the bones to be a very good contract. As long as the G money is low, I'm pretty happy with it.
  10. I would not freak out about Taylor's deal until we see how it breaks down. If there is little G money, and even backloaded, that could be an incredible deal. 2M/6M split w/ 2M Guaranteed would let us do whatever we want with him next year, at minimal cost this year.
  11. Never gonna happen but if the hypothetical question is whether you take the 4th best QB in the draft or R. Wilson at the same draft pick investment cost, anyone who chooses the young guy is crazy. Darn the baggage and lost cap space. Wilson is a HOF QB. He has already proven he can get you a SB You hope beyond hope anyone from this draft even sniffs what Wilson currently is. By the time Lance is good enough, if he is ever good enough, to even think about winning a title, you could already have one with Wilson, and at his age, you can expect to get a few more. If the argument was for a fringe established QB, who you are not sure can get you where you want to go, I can see bringing in the rook. If you are looking at the rookie who is an elite prospect, (Trev) I can see that direction as well. If you are looking at a vet QB who is breaking down, sure. But to even compare the 4th best QB prospect, who probably should not even start day 1 due to being raw, to the guy who was in the MVP convo this season and think you can come out ahead is like seven bridges too far. People on here think they are playing 4D chess when they are pushing around checkers pieces. Madness.
  12. Dak knows full well what he did/doing. He is just flexing on Dallas. Strong-arming them to get what he wants. Has nothing to do with us. That is all.
  13. With talk about another virtual offseason due to the pandemic, I don't think its a lock that any team has cheerleaders/mascots/bands next year. It is probably not a bad bet that we will at the very least have reduced fan capacity. Probably wont be a good idea to pack 90K people together for a very long time.
  14. Yup, ideally, they should sign Dak to a LTD with a small first year hit. If they have to tag him, they would be way in the red, but without a starting QB on the roster (No Dalton either) they will take that hit. If the choice is between having a QB and cutting a few guys, and not having a QB, you can go ahead and sharpen that machete now cuz I'm calling Jason Voorhees out of the bullpen to slice and dice. (Zombie Reference) Dallas is in even worse position to trade him, as they would absorb all the G money in a trade as dead cap. Even w/ a tag and trade, you would be looking at a 37M dead cap hit (tag is fully G), and they would still have to pay the QB coming in. That would be like paying Dak and another QB... which would make the trade pointless.
  15. No they do not But they are not eligible to play anywhere else if they don't, unless they pull a Leveon Bell and sit out while. The chances of Dak not signing a tag are slimmer than the chances he wont be on Dallas next year.
  16. FA is before the draft. By the time the draft rolls around Dak will either: a) Have a fat new contract from Dallas b) Have a franchise tag from Dallas c) Happily be on his new team for about a month Cowboys choice to tag Dak will have to come before FA and before the draft (3/9). They can not play things out to see how it goes, provided Dak signs the tag. If D does not have a QB come draft day, then the whole world would know their intentions. Might be enough to cause another team to jump up to secure their guy. We are guaranteed to get a very big piece in the Dak destination puzzle in about a month due to the tag deadline.
  17. Dude will be a RFA, and I'm not so sure we will pay him enough to require another team to pay a high draft pick as tender. (We would have to offer him about 3.5M) That would give us right of first refusal, and that's about it. That being said, this dude is not going to be a hot commodity with people banging down his door. Nobody is jones-ing to bring this guy in especially if they have to dish out a pick. Unless we do something drastic at QB, he will be back next year. We will easily be able to match any contract offered as no one will offer a deal that had any significant money involved.
  18. I'd love to see Wentz get moved to one of the well built teams that is lacking a QB. Makes us a much more attractive option to other QBs that are looking for good situations. All at the cost of a QB we probably could not get without paying an excessive price as Philly is in the same div as us. Double that if its an NFC team
  19. I'd endorse that move just to see the fireworks. That locker room is divided and you want to bring in the mediocre QB who got you a SB? It will be the OK QB vs the bad QB who everybody feels gives them some form of hope. It would tear that team apart. Both guys would have to hire dudes to look over their shoulders during games. I can not see that going well and I would love every second of it.
  20. Philly trying to strong arm somebody (the bears?) They are asking for the moon. Due to the massive dead cap hit, it really is not worth it to move Wentz unless you get at least a 1. 2 1s and a guy is a lot though
  21. a bit tricky, but "a name" means different things to different people so, I can't really debate that from true solid ground. Considering the backlash Doug and the organization faced, I'd personally qualify him as a "name" even if it was for reasons other than football. Also, we had to send the Bucs draft compensation for the rights to Doug. He was not a FA. That is a trade. As far as sell-out, you'd have to put a definition on it. Packers gave up a 1 for Farve. That is pricey. Even more so with his injury concerns. If your asking how many teams have found success after trading 3 1s for a QB, then there is not a lot of history to pick thru as it does not happen often. Does it matter that Young was halfway to busting? I don't remember Sam Darnold or Mariota doing much in the NFL yet? Cam has not been good in years. Stafford has numbers, but has won jack squat. How far has Carr ever gotten? Aren't those players being tossed around as possible acquisitions (before trade)? Success has little to do with it in terms of being a name to me. He was an established presence at QB who was traded.
  22. Depends on what you mean by sold out and successful. Most QBs fail in the NFL, so it goes to say most QB trades will also fail. Whether you look at the draft, FA or trade, a QB move taking a team to the promise land will almost always come up short. That being said, you can find examples if you look hard enough. Even on the WFT. We traded for Theisman, and that got us a SB. I don't remember what we gave up for him, but Doug Williams was acquired via trade and he got us a SB too. I'm pretty sure the 49ers traded for Steve Young Packers traded for Farve It happens, and it can work. Barring injury, I'd expect that many of us see the Rams as a SB contender in the NFC next year after their acquisition. I'm not sure I like their long term situation, but the short term is bright. No matter what avenue you take, it is less likely to work out than succeed if your measuring in SBs or even sustained success for that matter.
