  1. Project... House w/ good bones... same diff. About what I came away with from my evaluation of the guy. When are LSUs and NCs ProDays?
  2. Number 2 pick is gonna carry a cap hit of almost 7 Mil by himself this year, so we are gonna need a bit more space than normal to sign the rookie class. It won't be like when we drafted closer to the middle of the first and guy only cost 3.
  3. I don't think he looks like a hobo like he did at the combine. Baby steps Caleb, baby steps. Was magic Johnson out there boxing out other teams sightlines?
  4. Wha? Maye's film is car crash testing site. Maye is just as bad as JD at protecting himself while running. Man could try out for a circus trapeze act with his aerial tumbling display. He will very often willingly take on contact and multiple defenders for no reason. I will say its not as much of a problem for him at the NFL level as no one would project him to have as many carries as JD, but other than that...
  5. That's not a hot take. Dem wings are bland as heck. Scrambling is moving around behind the line of scrimmage to buy time and Jayden does not do a lot of that. JD is better than Maye at sliding around inside the pocket and if it gets to the point that he has to bail he's running rather than scrambling. Maye has a much more proven ability to run around behind the LOS and buy time after breaking the pocket.
  6. I can't explain the fear playing against the hyper mobile QBs put in me when playing video games. Haunted my dreams. lol
  7. Its an X factor. If all you are is an X factor, your not much of anything. If you are good and can then stack an X factor on top, It takes u 2 the next lvl.
  8. Fields was in the same area code as A. Richardson coming outta college as a rusher. He showed the aptitude to be an epic impact ball carrier, but did not have the production to back it, with career highs under 500 yards which aint exactly impressive for a dude w/ his skillset. He put that to rest in the NFL tho. Massive 1000+ yard season. Gotta respect him in terms of elite rushing ability right up there w/ the best. Trying to figure out where he fits is an interesting debate, but at the end of the day he is elite at it in today's NFL.
  9. I assumed they were meeting w/ JJ so all of our staff could laugh in his face in person. Color me surprised
  10. Its been covered. Here ya go: https://www.audacy.com/theteam980/sports/washington-commanders/kevin-sheehan-talks-jayden-daniels-nfl-draft-pressure-sack - Michigan's JJ McCarthy's average was 8.05 yards lost per sack - Williams' average was 7.82 yards lost per sack - Maye's average was 4.48 yarrds lost per sack - Daniels' average was 4.36 yards lost per sack
  11. Pressure is pressure and it comes out in the wash. Its not like one guys Oline lets one guy thru while stonewalling everybody else but the other unit is so bad that they release 5 guys to the QB every play and accidentally teleport summon a 6th rusher from the stands to take a free shot at the QB. We don't have to pretend that Caleb's or Maye's Oline was sending multiple free rushers every play. The Big 3 were pretty objectively bad at the P2S rate stat in college. Very high likely-hood they will be bad at it in the NFL too. Its the nature of being a player that keeps plays alive. It is what it is.
  12. P2S does not care about how often you are pressured. It cares about how often you are sacked when pressured. That could be 2 times a game or 20. If your referring to sack rate, I believe Jayden's was lower than Maye's last year, but that can obviously be massively aided by a good Oline
  13. Speed, athleticism and escapability is a hindrance in this case to a degree. Dudes w/ uber rushing ability or athleticism have much less incentive to give up on a play, and are much more likely to do things that make opportunities for sacks increase. If a play breaks down or there is nothing there, Guys w/ wheels are much less likely to just throw a ball away. They are gonna pull it down and try to make something outta it. Big dudes can hang around a bit longer in the pocket and throw a pass with guys hanging onto them. I don't care how athletic you are tho, that's gonna result in extra sacks. Your not getting away every time. Caleb Williams is a great example of this. Dudes got a legit spidey sense in the pocket and is great at avoiding pressure, yet he took a bazillion sacks this year. Why? Not because hes not athletic enough to avoid it or he lacks the instincts necessary, it because he tries to keep every play alive and it does not matter how good you are at it, that spikes your numbies.... Unless your Patrick Mahomie... Honestly, all three of the big 3 suck raw eggs at that Pressure to Sack statistic and its directly because they are all athletic. Daniels was like 20% last year. Maye was like 19 and Williams was like 18.
  14. Ant is one of those Dual threat QBs that comes out and you think if he can become at least a decent passer, hes a big time threat. But he has yet to put anything of that ilk on paper. Hes all aptitude. In terms of actual production and performance, he's been pretty bad. His passing high water mark is 2.5 K and 53% Passing. He's never broken 60. His rushing high water mark is 650 yds. All the aptitude in the world there, but still... never put up elite production over a season. In order for Ant to be successful he's gonna have to massively over-produce production in a way we have never seen from him before, both as a rusher and passer. Looking at his NFL time... he's played in 4 games while missing one in between. Two of those 4 games saw him log 33% of his teams offensive plays or less. He does not protect himself as a runner and as a result he gets hurt. Of the two full games he has one logging 64% completion percentage with the other is 44%. On the season hes at 59%. His rushing production looked pretty good, but he cost himself a season to get it. You gotta be more than a big body and a monster arm. Ant-man is a dang human specimen in that department and he aint much of a passer as it stands. If he ever learns to protect himself, he can be a theoretically great runner. Unlimited ceiling tho.... That and 5 Bucks can get you some popcorn.
  15. Maye is like the ultimate example of a house w/ good bones. Sure there is a lot of work that needs to be done. Consistency is a little leaky, decision making runs cold, unfinished mechanics downstairs... but if you fix all that you pretty much have everything you want in a QB. I'm not sure there is a "foundation is rotten" problem with him that can't really get repaired or would scare people away. If a coach looks at him and deems his issues fixable in the same manner, I see the appeal of wanting him. Its why he is a blue chip prospect in my eyes.
  16. I could see arm strength helping to cut thru the wind in CHI, but isn't Deion talking specifically about the cold? Some guys just are not used to operating in a cold environment and that can impact their play. It greatly numbs the fingers and that effects the ability to grip the ball, so a lot of guys opt to wear gloves to compensate. Anything that effects the QBs relationship to the ball, even gloves, is going to effect their passing and consistency. Unless you have tape of a guy operating in the cold, there is no way to truly know how he is gonna hold up, but I would expect someone who plays in a given environment regularly to adapt to it over time. I wouldn't let any of this stop me from drafting a guy I see as "the guy" tho. Whatever Caleb's cold tolerance and ability to play in low temps is now, I bet it will be better in 2 years.
  17. I don't know if I am more impressed by Chase's agent or the Saints money guy. That's more that I woulda thought Young would pull down and I don't understand the black magic the Saints keep conjuring to keep signing guys.
  18. I don't take anybody as gospel. I make my own choices after looking guys over and compartmentalize what other people say about a prospect. I greatly prefer to hear from guys who do this for a living and I like hearing from guys that have some clout to fall back on opposed to rando internet people. I may not agree with everything they find, but I can take the time to hear them out and re-examine areas where we don't align. But there are some things I do put increased emphasis on, like when a former QB talks about proper mechanics. They played the game at the highest level, I expect them to be great at noticing problems here or there. Case in point when Phil Simms was on a podcast w/ his son, they both compared their notes about JDs mechanics and while tehy loved it for the most part, they had the exact same flaw identified. He does not engage and rotate his torso consistently enough when throwing. Since throwing is a full body trebuchet, they claimed this robs a passer of power. I had not picked this up myself but after being told, yeah I totally see it in a lot of his passes. Waist snap, arm snap, but not so much torso snap. There is value in a lot of these analysis, and great value in some places over others. I don't let them reshape the identity of a guy I have examined myself, but I can certainly take bits and pieces as I go.
  19. Yup Everybody knew they were moving on so the Bears had no leverage. Kenny demanded a trade so Pitt had no leverage. I believe we would have kept Howell unless a offer we couldn't refuse came in and they wrench him off of us, and that is what happened.
  20. I hereby welcome everyone who thought the Bears were going to hold on to Justin Fields. Join us in reality. Glad that's something we don't gotta talk about anymore.
  21. It was pretty widespread. Bunch of shows, multiple networks, lots of articles... In related news JD took the lead for odds on favorite at #2 on Draft Kings. According to an article it seems the shift was noticed after we picked up Mariota. I'm "betting" they knew dang well everyone had a similar thought pattern which meant a premo opportunity for them. https://sportsbook.draftkings.com/leagues/football/nfl?category=2024-draft&subcategory=pick-number I'm not a betting man myself but if anybody wants to put their money where their mouth is there's your shot.
  22. Its not a bad thing to have a high BTT rate. If its a problem then it is for Jayden's too cuz he was higher than Maye with 8.4 last season
