  1. Not sure. I need to do better job researching these things before posting. My apologies for posting this without backup info. I'll try to track down more info to support my original post.
  2. Has there been an explanation why more testing isn't being done here? I saw the report last week the US Govt was going to shut down some testing sites last Friday. Not sure if that actually happened.
  3. Yep - guess who works most of these food production plants (meat & veggies)? And it ain't Jared & Ivanka...
  4. You need to delete out the quoted pics before this comes down on you...
  5. I agree the packed subways (and cab & Uber/Lyft) have contributed to the high number in NYC. NYC travel, including PHL, EWR, LGA & JFK, is almost twice that of LAX. I couldn't find decent international traveler numbers for each airport. It's approximately 14m travelers per month in NYC vs. 7m in LAX (without looking at seasonal variations - just the total number divided by 12). It's not only those people traveling international but anybody who was near these people in baggage claim, elevators, airline clubs, people movers (rental car buses, parking shuttle buses, etc.) restaurants, etc. Obviously, the same is true for both areas. A lot of people take buses & trains to NYC from outside of NY to take cheaper/faster flights to EU. To your point, mass transit in the East Coast corridor is much better than that in the LAX area. Here's the info for 2018 from the NY/NJ Port Authority: https://www.panynj.gov/airports/en/statistics-general-info.html
  6. I was about to order 00 flour & yeast on Amazon but I decided to check online at Wegman's yesterday morning. I was able to order: AP flour, 00 flour & 5 packets of yeast. I wanted bread flour but the AP will do. The 00 flour on Amazon was $19.99 for 2 2.2lb bags. What a ripoff!
  7. It was reported early this week the infection came from EU to NYC. My opinion: probably Italy & Spain. The people round tripped from NYC to EU during a high travel season for seniors (Jan-Apr). Multiple international airports in NYC area - LaGuardia JFK Newark & toss in PHL. Stupid to not have monitored these airports since Mar 1st.
  8. Yeah, it does because we love pizza on the grill. People obviously hoarding all of these. Here's a link to a yeast substitute (I've never tried it): https://www.thespruceeats.com/yeast-substitute-for-baking-4140439
  9. I thought I had this figured out by day 4. Apparently, I missed the step where you're supposed to remove 1/2 of the starter everyday before feeding it that day. I ended up with a separation of the fluid (called 'liquor') from the starter. Essentially, it starved itself because the daily feeding of new flour wasn't enough to keep it nourished. I was going to start a new batch but realized that I'm just about out of bread flour (I use this when I don't have 00 flour to make pizza dough). Went to 2 grocery stores to restock. Yeah, every type of flour - gone. Even the yeast packets are out of stock. Sucks because now I can't make pizza dough.😞
  10. Right on...12 Ks is incredible for a playoff baseball game in the 2000s. Anytime, really, but sick in these days.
  11. That's consistent with what I've read about the loans. I'm a sole proprietor. I'm not sure there's anything in the bailout for us. Hmmm...maybe I get the loan, pay myself, & it will all be forgiven since I kept myself on the payroll! Unemployment benefits depend on where you live - Florida maximum is $275/week (currently). I remember seeing something about an additional $400-600/week being added as part of the bailout. Not sure what made it to the final bill.
  12. I never - ever - ate oatmeal growing up. I blame my Dad because I don't think he liked it so he made sure we never, ever had to eat it. Anyway, I bought a box of cinnamon/apple instant whatever brand because I thought it would be healthy & cheap. Tried it - nope - tastes like ****. Cardboard ****. Found a recipe using 5 packs of this packaged cardboard crap to make cookies. Actually, pretty decent cookies with coffee in the morning. Shocked.
  13. Here in western Richmond, a nursing home/rehab facility has 109 confirmed residents & staff members who have tested positive for COVID-19. As of earlier this morning, 32 people have died. This started on March 24th - 15 days ago - with an initial report of 10 cases positive for COVID-19 & 2 deaths - 4 in the hospital & 4 being treated at the facility. This facility has 50% of the reported deaths in Virginia. My thoughts & prayers for those with relatives at this facility. Not being able to visit or to be there when a relative passes is beyond sad. https://www.wric.com/news/local-news/death-toll-at-canterbury-reaches-32/
  14. This is so much fun to re-watch. Rainey with a key out in the 7th tossing 100mph. Bring on Corbin!
  15. Smoked mealoaf, Yoshida style (from Smokingpit.com) - used 1/2 ground beef 1/2 ground pork. About 5 degrees to go.
  16. I finally decided to make a sourdough starter. Just finished the day 4 feeding & should be ready to make something with it starting tomorrow or the day after (whatever day of the week that is). I've made no-knead olive bread on my smoker (and oven) in the past. Pretty easy & really tasty. Going to try these: sourdough rolls for steak & cheese sammiches, sourdough pizza (pesto, tomato, cheese, basil), and sourdough rye everything bagels. Any bread makers with suggestions and/or recipes to try?
  17. Oh, he didn't expect anything from anybody as part of the deal. All he wanted was the ability to buy the used car people were turning in to dealers. He couldn't buy the car from the customer (dealer gave them more $$) nor buy the car from the dealer (who had to destroy the car) after the trade-in. My buddy does have sales tax, property tax, & payroll tax. He co-owns a used car lot.
  18. I'm right there with you. This whole thing was setup for the White House Occupant to pull victory from the jaws of defeat (by Biden). He had ample opportunity (Jan/Feb/early Mar) to step up to the plate and drive in the winning run. Not only did he strike out, he hit himself in the nuts with his bat while falling to the ground swinging at a pitch that was 3 feet in front of him. One thing it has proven to me: he has surrounded himself with people who can't process information unless it comes from White House Occupant. Someone in his 'circle' (which could be anyone in or out of the government) could have sold it to him as an 'opportunity'. They were ALL too ****ing stupid & incompetent to do it. Or better, too stupid to listen to anything outside his ****ing mouth. As usual, he went with his 'gut' and made an incredibly incorrect catastrophic call. He did. No one else.
  19. This is from the Twitter post about the change to the language on the HHS website...
  20. My buddy is a wholesaler - and was during Cash For Clunkers Part Uno. He said that deal pretty much killed the used car business. Cars he could buy for cheap were scrapped. As I recall, they poured cement in the cylinder heads. So, cars in the $1-10k range were destroyed (I can't recall the exact range but I think this is close). I *think* there were major penalties if you got caught not sending a car to be destroyed. Yes, it would be good for new car sales, manufacturing, etc. I hope the details get refined in Part Deux to make up for the deficiencies in Part Uno.
  21. I might have missed it in this thread. Sorry if this was already posted...
