  1. I don't disagree, but as someone pointed out yesterday sometimes coming from a military mindset isn't always good...for example, Rivera showing loyalty to Dustup Del Rio over what's best for his players. Which he really seems to be doing. And it would explain why other coaches don't feel comfortable bringing things up with Rivera (which I can't prove, but I'm speculating since they keep repeating the same mistakes.) I'll never forget my unit's sergeant major chewing us out before a PT test saying that we wouldn't show any 'integrity' or 'grit' or 'spirit' if we failed the test...and then he went out and failed his PT test. 😆
  2. That depends...are we talking Gibbs 1.0 or Gibbs 2.0? Gibbs 1.0 would just say "QBs? We don't need no stinkin' QBs!" and then put Theismann, Williams, and Rypien in the lineup. Gibbs 2.0 would waste a timeout while pondering how to answer that question. And then get flagged on the next play for having 12 men on the field.
  3. That is becoming more apparent with every passing day. Without Brady, Belichick looks like he did with the Browns in the 90s. None of his former assistant coaches have ever turned their teams into anything decent either. Guess it helps when your HOF QB is willing to take less $$$ because his supermodel wife makes 4x as much as he did... Maybe that will be a new draft strategy: evaluating the hotness of a rookie QB's girlfriend/wife. I'm sure that will fit into some kind of algorithm when it comes time to negotiate a new contract...
  4. A bunch of 'yes-men'... RIVERA: Ok here's our game plan. We're gonna run the ball 25 times before halftime, and throw about 6 times, 4 times on 3rd down. The defense is gonna plug up the holes and stop the run. That's the way to win in this NFL. NEW ASSISTANT COACH: But what if the Chiefs hang 21 points on us in the 1Q? DEL RIO: Well they better not, or our defense is gonna be lookin' for jobs. Ha ha ha! Just kiddin.' RIVERA: We all know you have to run and stop the run to win in this league. With this strategy we should win the game 13-10. Any questions? OTHER COACHES: NO SIR!! NEW ASSISTANT COACH: What's for lunch?
  5. You nailed it. One has to wonder what kind of culture exists in the coaches' room, because it sounds like coaches either aren't empowered to speak up about what's not working...or they DO speak up and RR/JDR ignore them and do what they've been doing all this time anyway, which makes it less likely for coaches to bring up issues in the first place, so then it becomes a vicious cycle of failure building upon failure. It's like those tyrant CEOs who demand "don't bring me problems, bring me solutions." If people's solutions are ignored or if they don't honestly know what the solution is, do you think they'll bother bringing up any problems with the CEO any more? No, and then the CEO wonders why his company failed on his watch. RR/JDR would likely have been successful coaches with their approach...in the 1970s.
  6. You ain't kiddin.' Quality coaches gave this franchise a wide berth due to Snyder, so Dan could only get someone to accept the job if he threw in a free toaster with the job. Rivera's limitations as a GM have become more glaring every year, with the overemphasis on defense in the early rounds of the draft holding the offense back...at least until he got a good OC here, but now the vaunted defense is fading so it looks like another 7-8 win season. Saw that the Bills canned their OC...if only my Steelers would do the same with Matt Canada...and Rivera should do with Del Taco.
  7. I've seen a copy of Ron's gameplan for the next game...sadly, it resembles Ron Burgundy macing himself.
  8. Waiting for Jason Wright apology in 3...2...1... "I prematurely shut down the Extremeders board. That's on me. My bad. We can do better and we will. Next time I'll check to make sure there are any actual users on the board first, or so my lawyers tell me."
  9. Yes because they have competent people with a strategy, which we may finally have here. Rivera clearly didn't have any kind of strategy as indicated by the fact that Shen has to explain to him that it's better to have four 2's than two 1's.
  10. The window to win in the NFL is pretty small, that's why accumulating #1 picks doesn't work...by the time you have enough of them you have to start getting rid of the first ones you got due to free agency. Agree that too much focus was put on D line...makes me sad to think instead of Chase we could have had Herbert at QB.
  11. I forgot to add to my original post...the guys on the radio were comparing it to the Anchorman 'guns' scene, except in this case Bruce Allen was saying "look at all this tape I'm watching." It was so funny I almost wrecked my car.
  12. Kinda off-topic, but they were talking on 106.7 yesterday afternoon about the "Bruce Allen Tapes." Basically, someone would come into Allen's office, and Allen would pause the tape he was watching to talk to them. The person would leave the office and touch base with subsequent office visitors, who would all verify that Allen's tape was always paused on the same scene when they came in, with Bruce making a big show of "lemme pause this, just watchin' some tape" and trying to make it look like he was actually watching tape when he wasn't. That certainly explains a lot of the personnel decisions this team made under Allen. 😜
  13. I'm sure that conversation sounded a lot like this: RON: What??!? Trade Sweat and Young?? They're the anchors of this 31st-rated defense! How could trading them be of value? SHEN: Let me put it this way. If you trade both of them now, you will still have value inside your wallet. RON: Huh? SHEN: Meaning you'll still have money. RON: I don't get it. SHEN: That's right, and you won't be getting any MORE money if you don't trade Sweat and Young. Catching my drift? Am I being obtuse? Capiche? RON: (yells into phone) GET SWEAT AND YOUNG OUTTA HERE!!
  14. This seems pretty common with the families of athletes, that their kid is the best thing since sliced bread. Being confident is one thing, but Deion didn't take plays off...they talked a lot on the Junkies this morning about how Chase would stop running if the play was too far away from him, and sometimes would just run in a straight line without the OL forcing him outside. Maybe he took away a whole half of the field...in 8th grade.
  15. It's like the Over The Hill Gang all over again! This is what ol' George Allen did back in the 70s...made the team more competitive, yes...but only for a few years.
  16. Let's not forget that RR also lost his mother last year, so it shouldn't be too surprising if he's still dealing with grief. It bothers me in our society that people expect folks to 'just get over it' when something terrible happens and expects them to be back near 100% within a few weeks. On the other hand, it's clear that RR is not as involved on the sidelines as he was in Carolina. He had a bit more success in Carolina partly because he wasn't also in control of personnel...I understand people wanting more power but it bugs me when people don't realize that they just aren't that good at juggling two jobs. The list of good coaches who were also good GMs is extremely short.
  17. DEFENSE!!?? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' DEFENSE!!
  18. It means he'll get into the headset Tugboat Ron is wearing to let him know if they lose the game they will be eliminated from playoff contention...too bad he wasn't here last year!
  19. Maybe Snyder wasn't making enough human sacrifices to the football gods during his tenure. Or he did them wrong, like that old joke that if you have a rain dance wouldn't you have to have rain dance practice? And if it doesn't rain, how do you know you're doing the dance properly in the first place? 🤔
  20. Never knew there was a position for Football Strategy. I guess Jason Wright better be polishing up his resume on LinkedIn.
