Tony Romo is the exception, not the rule.  We can’t feel to comfortable about our QB situation as it stands for the long term.  I’m certain we’re going to do everything we can to draft a QB, whether it be trading up into the top 10 if the opportunity should arise, or drafting one in the 2nd or 3rd round.  QB is the one position that’s of most importance, especially since next year’s draft will be very poor and mediocre for the next batch of QB’s.  We need to get our QB of the future this season, and have him sit and learn behind Fitz.

This is the post. People don’t understand that QBs don’t grow on trees.

Well **** let's trade up and get a bust so we don't have any 1st round picks over the next two drafts to see if you are right!

Where did I say trade 3 first rounders

Who said anything about passing on Fields or Lance if they fell to us? BTW, you do know that Tony Romo was an undrafted free agent right? Players develop and others fall off....it happens in every sport.

You’re not looking at the statistics. A QB drafted after round 2 is extremely extremely unlikely to pan out. It’s about 40% in round 1 and 20% in round 2 vs .05% in round 3 and later. You can’t just pray to god that somebody becomes a stud out of nowhere anymore, it just doesn’t happen when people want it to

Fitzpatrick/Heinicke/Allen is a strong enough QB room to caretake a decent offense and push for the playoffs this season.

They aren’t. Fitzpatrick always has a few solid games and then goes back to being a turnover machine. Allen is very limited and Heinicke can’t make it through a game without getting injured.

With draft in 3 days; it should be an interesting evening.  I predict the Team will not go after QB4 or QB5 of that first tier.  It's is possible that should one of the 2nd tier be available where they are drafting in Round 2 or 3; they might take one.

Basically, this draft depends on whether Mac Jones goes in the Top 3 and what Atlanta does at #4.  Despite the fact they can't get rid of Matt Ryan for 2 years; they may still draft a QB at #4. Atlanta could also stay at #4 and draft Pitts.  Atlanta could also trade down.   If a team is trading up to #4; other than Dallas, then it's for a QB.

I would say Denver, New England and Chicago are more hungrier than we are to move up that high.  After spending in free agency; I can see Bill trade up to #4; if the QB he wants is there.

Also, it's still possible Carolina still drafts a QB; even after giving 3 picks for Darnold.  Their owner wants a stud QB and if one is still available at #8; Carolina could pounce.  Heck, Carolina may just trade Darnold; if they draft a QB.

If Mac Jones is still available; I don't see anyone really trading up to get him. They will just let him slide to them and then take him.

If you are expecting the Team to draft QB4 or QB5 of that first tier; you probably will be disappointed.

QB4 and QB5 are still miles better than any other option in the next two drafts. So I don’t buy that they won’t be aggressive.

Maybe so but those efforts didn't work for FA.   So why would it change now?  Keim had a chunk of it down before FA.    Heck they can't know what they are going to do considering it depends on what others do.  But when Keim suggests he knows they like player X I trust it.  When he says he knows they want to address position X, I trust it.   He's super conservative when it comes to sharing gossip.  Cooley joked that Keim needs to get 7 sources before he trusts sharing anything because he's obsessed with not being wrong.

As for what they end up doing -- that's impossible to know since they themselves can't fill out the chess board in advance of the action.  Moves have to be played out in front of them.

Not that Keim is some magician on that front.  General stuff tends to get leaked about most teams.  Rarely anything crazy specific but a general idea of players they may like.

I don't follow other teams super closely but if I pay a little attention like I do with Miami considering where I live, I have somewhat of an idea of what they are likely thinking.  It's hard to cover all of that up no matter how guarded you are because agents talk and its not hard to find out what teams have poked around more than a normal amount of time with certain players.

Tell me who predicted they would sign William Jackson then

I am curious to see if that rumor heats up in the next few days or cools down.  At this equivalent time right before FA, Keim nailed every WR target they would poke around on once FA started.    Not that I trust him or anyone else fully but leaks tend to be more on the money close to the end.  I can recall Keim name dropping Gibson right before the end.  I recall it was Haskins, Haskins, Haskins the days leading up to that draft.  I recall Cooley saying he hears their dream sceanrio was to come out with both Payne and Guice in the same draft back in that day.

Juding by changing rumors.  Trading up for QB is heating up, i agree.  But to my thinking its still not hot enough for me to fully buy its going down.  I'd need to see it heat up more to be convinced its going down.   The Parsons mentions have heated up a little so I want to see where that goes in the next few days.

Problem with that is we have a new FO. They’re intending to keep their cards close to them.

If TH can show that he can play every game like he played that playoff game and become THE guy, that would be a HUGE break for this team and fans (especially given how little he cost us).

That’s just not going to happen. He can’t stay healthy and his arm isn’t good enough for him to be a full time starting QB. Whether this fanbase likes it or not the only way we get a good franchise signal caller is to be aggressive to get one.

I don't think so.  I could be wrong but I see more hungrier teams than us; wanting to get their QB.  If Denver moved up to #4, you know they are taking a QB.

Chicago already has shown how desperate they are, in trying to entire Houston to let Watson free. You know Bill is looking for that QB.

I think Ron is willing to wait.   If Denver does trade up to Atlanta's spot and Mac Jones is QB5; noone is trading up for him.   With the recent revelation about Fields; teams maybe hesitant to trade up for him.  If he falls to them; they may take him but not give up picks for him.

2022 may supposedly look bad now but we don't how the draft picture will be in 2022.  Someone could have a great year and move up.

This is just speculation. Nobody has made a move yet except San Francisco.

Blindly? Yes. As a BPA after the best tackles are off the board and the top O/D players are gone and only a small handful of blue chip prospects left on the board? No.

Context matters. I’ll say this again and again and again and again.

Blanket statements are among the biggest culprits of faulty logic that have ever come about.

Also, “nothing has changed about this franchise”? Have you watched this team’s evolution?

Nope. In every single scenerio taking a RB in round 1 is a terrible idea outside of elite elite talents. It’s one of the most objective things in roster building.

    • Sad 1
  10. Taking a RB in round 1 is such a bad idea. Like so so bad. It's a complete waste of a high asset when you can always find a good RB later. If they do that then nothing has truly changed with this franchise. The only exception is if it's a CMC like talent which nobody is in this draft.

Stop pretending Allen is our only QB, just so you can get worked up and drive your point home. Right now it's Fitz, Heinicke, Montez and not Allen. He makes league minimum and can be cut whenever.

Montez isn't an NFL QB and Heinicke is a backup. Fitz is 39 and likely to retire after this year. We need a long term QB.

  12. What so many of you aren't getting is that any QB that breaks out next year is going to be out of range from where we are picking. So baisclly we're in the same position that we are now. Are you still going to call for punting at the position again? Like you do every year?

It is more likely that anybody we draft at QB will be a bust. If we trade up, we are much more likely to be screwed as a franchise. You need to wait until you are a perinial playoff contender and trade up then like KC (playoffs 3 out of 4 years, 4 straight winning seasons and 3 11 or more win regular seasons BEFORE the trade), hope you get lucky (UDFA like Dallas, later pick like Seattle, someone good somehow hits FA like Tampa, another teams trash like Tennessee or someone slides to your natural pick like happened for Green Bay) or or have a bad season at the right time when you are actually decent like Pittsburgh.

This is dumb logic. We went 7-9 last year with the worst QB group in the NFL. A halfway solid QB and we win 9-10 last year.

The same way we do this year - trade current and future picks and/or players

So why not do that now when we already know there are good prospects? Why wait until there’s possibly only 1 or 2 first round talents and they will go too high?

    3 minutes ago, skinny21 said:

The poster you quoted was referring to qbs (and WFT being in the same position as this year - needing to trade up big time to land a top guy).  With that said, and as you’re maybe eluding to - the more talent there is overall, the better chance a good qb falls.

A good QB doesn’t fall to you. That’s not how it works anymore. You have to be ultra aggressive in getting your guy, which half of this fanbase thinks is the worst thing ever and we can still win with game managers.

  15. 3 minutes ago, skinny21 said:

It’s a big unknown for sure, but there were only two at this point last year - Lawrence and Fields.

Yeah, I think there’s some urgency to getting a qb this year, and that urgency will likely ramp up next year (though I’d guess Fitz re-signs if we don’t land a rookie... and maybe even if we do).  We’ll see how it plays out.

Curious what people think about WFT meeting with Felipe Franks?

Franks is a camp body. Doesn’t mean much.
