Yeah at this point in our team's history, they cannot feasibly, realistically bring in Watson, whether he's cleared or not. It would be a powder keg next to a blazing fire.

That's why Rivera or Mayhew should come out and stop ****footing around the topic.  The Dolphins GM just came out and said the door was closed on Watson.  We should do the same.

I think the whole point is that Heinicke is basically option Z. If literally every other possibility falls through then he'd probably start by default. And it's unlikely that they won't be able to get anyone. But in the very unlikely event that it happens, then Heinicke could start.

Heinicke is not an option to start the season.  I am saying that if they are going to draft a ready to start rookie, why waste money on Trubisky, Winston, or Mariota, when there are cheaper options (Allen) to be the #3.  You keep thinking that I am advocating for Heinicke to start.  I'm not.  I'm advocating that Mitch Trubisky is absolutely terrible and this is backed up by advanced statistics.  A sudden change of scenery, or blaming Nagy, isn't going to change this.  Darnold was still Darnold in Carolina.  Same with Winston or Mariota.

Heinicke was ranked only higher than rookies, Goff, Darnold, and Roethlisberger.  In his last year as a starter, Trubisky was ranked 32nd out of 35 by PFF in their final 2020 rankings.  In 2019, Winston and Mariota were 21st and 22nd, respectively.  Trubisky was 26th that year.  Trubisky was 30th in 2018.  Mariota was 17th, and Winston was 22nd.  If Ron wants a 2nd "veteran" on the roster, they have Kyle Allen potentially.  If they draft a ready to start rookie at 11 overall, or trade up to get one, there is no point, IMO, of bringing in Trubisky, Mariota, or Winston.

I’ve seen reports (or, maybe “reports”) that the team called the chiefs about Patrick mahomes availability.

please tell me this team isn’t stupid enough to waste their time with that, why would the chiefs even humor that idea??

This is there way to say, "see we really tried", when they trot out Trubisky as the week 1 starter.

I’d be more than happy with Wentz if there was little to no trade cost in terms of draft picks. I think we’d be crazy to overlook him if available.

Same.  Writing off Wentz as an option makes no sense.  He has an option to get out of his contract in 2023.  If the Colts essentially pay Washington to take him, you do it.

They signed 38 year old Ryan Fitzpatrick over Tyrod Taylor, Jameis Winston, Mitch Trubisky, Jacoby Brissett, and Andy Dalton last year.  That should tell you how they view these current potential free agents.

What is the point of Mitch Trubisky or Mariota ? To win one more game? And then be further away from a potential savior QB next offseason?

I know they were under contract last season, but if Rivera and company truly thought these guys were a great fit for Turner's offense, why didn't they try to trade for a 26 or 27 year old quarterback with playoff experience, but signed a 38 year old journeyman who has never been to the playoffs?  And I don't know if having Trubisky or Mariota would have even translated to more wins.  We'd probably still wind up 7-10.

Some of the beat guys have said Watson has no interest in us, and we have no interest in Watson. Opinions can change, and the beat guys could be wrong, but I’d say it’s a hell of a long shot Watson ends up here.

I hope you're right.  The alleged draft capital that is required to get alleged serial predator Watson is insane and I can't believe people are entertaining bringing him in as if it's some massive game changer.  He's not elite.  He's not on Rodgers or Wilson's level.  This guy has more red flags than Guice, Haskins, and Wentz combined and people are still clamoring for him.  Makes no sense.

Also, Sam Howell is an option and should be taken seriously. I still can’t believe there’s only a handful of us that are beating that drum.

I had totally forgotten about Howell as an option.  I would not be upset if they draft him, Pickett, or Corral, tbh.  Ridder just does nothing for me, and Willis is too raw of a prospect.

He's fine as a 3rd option for sure, but I wouldn't care if that 3rd option was Heineke or Allen - can't expect too much at the 3rd spot.

I would not be upset if they look at the available free agents and pass knowing that they are going to go all in on the draft to draft a quarterback and have a rookie and Heinicke going into the season.  Seems like Scott Turner hinted at this at his last press conference.

The point I am leading to is I think Rivera might be given another shot in 2023 if it fails in 2022.  Dan is stupid but I am assuming not to the degree that he wouldn't get the fallout of firing Rivera before his contract is up.

He's going to get all 5 years.  And it's going to be mediocre to awful seasons if he goes in that direction.

  11. If they sign a Trubisky, Bridgewater, or Mariota and whiff on a draft pick at quarterback, and then have another mediocre to terrible season, it would seriously be time to start considering firing Rivera and company.  That would be 3 seasons in a row where they have failed to address the most important position in the sport.  Signing Fitzpatrick to be "the guy" last year should have been a massive red flag to everyone.  I hope they don't go that route again this year.

He thinks if Pickett is at 11, they take him.  If not they trade down and take a Qb in the 2nd round

Rivera is going to take a huge gamble if he's going to sit and wait for 11 if they really like Pickett.  There are QB hungry teams picking before us.  If they sign someone like Trubisky and whiff on their draft pick, I don't think Rivera makes it to year 5.

  13. Of the potential available quarterbacks, my personal rankings for who I would target:

    1. Wentz

    2. Tannehill

    3. Winston

    4. Mariota

    5. Trubisky

    6. Dalton

    7. Bridgewater

    8. Fitzpatrick

I think it would be an interesting camp if it were something like Pickett, Trubisky, Heinicke.  While I am not a big Pickett guy, I'd bet on him winning that competition.   But hopefully that's not the sceanrio.

I could live with this as long as there is no actual shot of Trubisky ever starting a game for this team.

    Mentioned Wentz/Trubisky and a rookie.

I don't care about the red flags.  If the Colts essentially pay you to take him off of your hands, you take Wentz over any of the other options (again, assuming Wilson and Rodgers are a no).  Then draft Pickett.  Arm strength is overrated.  Malik Willis scares the hell out of me.  Hearing a lot of "sit and learn", "project", and talks about how he cannot adjust protections at the line is giving me strong Haskins vibes.  And I don't think Willis has the same laziness that Haskins did.  But you don't draft a "project" in year 3 of a 5 year contract.  Matt Corral's size is the only thing that worries me about him.  I would be okay with taking him.  Ridder should not be a first round selection, but since there are several QB needy teams, he might be.

The biggest red flag that I have with Pickett is that his numbers prior to his last year in college were very similar to Jarret Doege of WVU.  I'm a WVU fan, and Doege is absolutely terrible and would have no business playing in the NFL.  I just worry that Pickett's last years stats could be a mirage.

Watson will not be a Commander.  No way.  Even though Snyder is going through the sex scandal investigation, I don't see RR and Co. trading for Watson.  More of a longshot to me than Rodgers and have always thought so.

I hope you are right.  Giving up 3 first rounders, a combination of later round picks, and a star player for a guy who has 20+ sexual assault allegations against him would be the final straw for me as a fan.

Mariota is good just alot of injuries.

He's good as a bridge quarterback.  I don't want any of these potential free agents or trade possibilities (with the exception being Rodgers and Wilson) without also drafting a quarterback.  Preferably Pickett.  Corral's size concerns me.  Willis seems to have the biggest bust potential.  I'd be shocked if Ridder went in the first round.

One of those qbs has 2 10 win seasons in three years as a full time starter. The other has 1 10 win season with 7 years as a starter. One has 1 playoff win in three years as a full time starter. One is known for bonehead backbreaking plays at the worst possible time one isn’t. One was considered a borderline top 5 qb the other has never been considered that. One is 26 and probably still ascending the other is 33 and at the tail end of their very peak. They are not even remotely close to the same.

The only difference is age and sexual assault allegations.
