I actually think Heinicke would have done much better.
I don't think he would have done much better and still think they would have lost. But I do think Washington fans come to the realization that Wentz isn't the guy faster than it took Indy fans. Because he is now on his third team in three years and is still doing the things that got him benched in Philadelphia back in 2020.

There is zero value in benching Wentz unless he was injured.
Keeping him in the game increases the likelihood that he would be injured. At least that could have been Rivera's excuse.

There’s no reasoning with you. You woke up with a Heineke hard on and I’m the poor sap around this morning to engage you about it. Most others with brains are either too smart or don’t care enough to engage with you.
Heinicke could be cut or inactive for all I care. That doesn't erase terrible quarterback play by Wentz. He should have been benched at halftime. They could have put in Logan Thomas for all I care. You decided to make it about Heinicke and seem to have taken the thought of *gasp* Wentz being benched personally.

He hasn't changed.
I liked the trade for him. I thought he was the best of the realistic available options. But he's not the guy. He's not reverting back to 2017. Dude is washed.

There is a post in this very thread, with a link to Reddit with all 9 sacks, along with commentary. It might help you to review it.
Why would Scott Turner do this?

Bro you know more than one party can suck, right?
Yes
I also am fairly certain we aren't going anywhere with Wentz and we just might see Howell start some games this year, bro.

It’s coaching malpractice. Plain and simple. Beyond that it also appears to be roster malpractice because this OL can’t stop a nosebleed unless their is a lot of presnap motion that gives the defense pause.
Ahh so now we can excuse the poor play of the quarterback on the play calling as well as the OL.

There is a more bad than there is good, particularly against aggressive defensive fronts.
Seems like this is a recurring theme then. A significant upgrade (with a healthy Samuels, Thomas, and rookie Dotson) shouldn't have put up zero in the first half in two straight games.

And put in someone worse than John Beck, in his 3rd start?
Wentz is a better quarterback than Heinicke. But you really hate Henicke...which is bizarre to me. Like why does the mere mention of his name make you rip the guy? He's a good backup quarterback. What do backup quarterbacks do when the starter is hurt or sucking it up? They come into games. When your statue of a quarterback gets sacked 9 times you might want to consider putting in the guy who is more mobile and actually senses pressure.

Okay, your point?
My point is that when you are playing John Beck level football, you need to get benched.

Do you recall Heineke’s performance when teams simply pinned their ears back and pushed our OL back into his lap?
Yes I do. The most he was ever sacked in a game was 5 times last season.

Cooper Rush outplays Wentz and the majority of the fanbase continues to do it's shocked Pikachu face because of a good half against the Jaguars.

I have zero delusions about Taylor Heinicke being an NFL caliber starter. He absolutely should have been inserted into that game at halftime yesterday. Yes, Wentz was that bad.

In 4 out of the 7 home division games Rivera has coached, the scores in the first half have been...
Eagles 2020: 17-0
Giants 2020: 20-3
Dallas 2021: 24-0
Eagles 2022: 24-0
Now you know why Del Rio is still around. Because once he's gone, there is no more shield for Rivera.

Rivera was involved in the rebranding.
This is even more of a reason to get rid of him.

We certainly have seen him at his worst.

I love dumping on the Colts just as much as anyone, but for better or worse, this has been the common refrain about Wentz from Philly to Indy. He's not a bad teammate or guy, but he doesn't take responsibility. But I'd take 7 touchdowns and 3 interceptions over 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions right now.
"What I love about Matt is that he takes responsibility. He’s the leader. I could not be happier that he’s our quarterback."
-
I don't understand how anyone can objectively say that they would prefer Matt Ryan over Wentz at this stage in Ryan's career.

It does feel good to have a quarterback again. I'm still not convinced he's the guy moving forward, but I think the offense is going to be fun to watch all year.

It's because last week he showed he doesn't need garbage time to have basically these same stats.
I don't disagree but the fawning over the same quarterback we had here a few years ago who was considered "polarizing" is kind of amusing to me.

Del Rio is the easy scapegoat because the defense has been terrible. But Del Rio wasn't the one who made the decision to go for 2 when they didn't need to. Rivera is a great guy, but he ain't taking us to any promised land.
-
It's interesting how the "he's just padding his stats in garbage time" excuses aren't being used anymore for this quarterback. Not saying that he is, but just a few years ago this thread would have been full of them.

Am I the only one who never remembered the whole "Carson being Carson" narrative before he played in Indy? I don't ever remember him as being seen as some reckless gunslinger like Rex Grossman before. His 2020 season was rough, but that was an outlier year.

More reasons to move on from him after this year. Jalen Hurts has been living rent free in his head since 2020 and he hasn't gotten over it.
