However as time passes, our realistic options seen to be diminishing. I think I’m at the stage where someone like Wentz becomes a risk/reward/cost type decision where on balance I may be prepared to take a risk with him if I still had my first 3 draft picks this year and I had bagged the top FS in free agency for example.
This is where I am at. If Indy essentially pays a team to take Wentz (like the Texans did with Osweiler), what is the harm? I'd take him over Trubisky, Jimmy G, Winston, Mariota, Dalton, and Carr in a heartbeat.

According to Keim its squarely about Carr. According to what Keim heard, Davis isn't a big fan of Carr but has kept on that ride because his coaches have been big fans of him.
Can anyone blame Davis? 2 playoff cameos in 8 seasons. At some point you have to move on.

I don't pin the 29-35 record much on his shoulders at all as watching him play, it would seem he was the only one attempting to carry that team. But I do agree on the rest of what you have to say, it's honestly creepy to me to see people talk about him like he's the next GOAT, and teams should be willing to exhaust all options to bring him on, and just completely overlook how much of a wierdo he is at minimum, if not actually rapey. I just can't...
He's had one playoff win. In 4 years as a starter. He had multiple weapons in 2019. Don't see why he's being compared on the same level with Rodgers or Wilson.

No way I’d trade 2022 picks or a player for Watson. I’d trade a load of future conditional picks with the deal voiding if he’s nailed.
There are only 2 players this team should give up draft capital for: Rodgers and Wilson. That's it.

If Carson Wentz has tons of red flags that scare people away from even considering him as an option, what exactly would you call Watson's issues? The guy who checked out of a team within months of signing a contract extension (well after Bill O'Brien's incompetence with the roster) who has 20+ sexual assault allegations against him...and these aren't massive red flags to everyone? Sure, this team would be much better with him as the starting QB, but the hype around this guy is insane. In 4 years prior to drafting Watson, the Texans were 29-35. 4 years with Watson? 29-35. I wouldn't want him anywhere near this roster, and it mostly has nothing to do with playing ability.

Me, too. I was being a bit sarcastic.
My sarcasm detector needs new batteries.
I do think Rodgers is the only quarterback who actually makes us a legit Super Bowl contender. Wilson makes us a divisional favorite. Everyone else is kind of "meh, maybe" to "no way in hell".

Are we really going to be satisfied with perhaps winning a SB if 3 years later we will be looking for another QB?
Yes, absolutely.

Here are the free agents we could sign and would that could possibly get the starting job day 1:
Fitzpatrick, Newton, Dalton, Taylor, Winston, Brissett, Bridgewater, Trubisky, Mariota, Flacco.
Absolutely none of these will generate any fan interest or excitement.
The rumored trade available quarterbacks:
Rodgers, Wilson, Watson, Wentz, Ryan, Tannehill, Garoppolo, Carr
Rodgers and Wilson are the only two I would bet the farm on. I don't think either of them will come here unfortunately. However, if Rodgers does get dealt to the Titans, that opens the door for Tannehill. If we can't get Rodgers or Wilson, my preferred list would be (in order):
-Tannehill
-Ryan
-Wentz
-Carr
-Garoppolo
-Winston
-Bridgewater
-Trubisky
-Mariota
This of course, comes with the caveat, that they must also draft a quarterback.

Define: much.
Maybe 1 or 2 more wins last season?

Then don't bring him up in the thread about not having a starting QB, because we don't.
I'll bring him up when necessary. Especially when overrating potential quarterbacks coming here like Jimmy G or Trubisky.

They are much better than him. They are legit NFL QBs. Heinike isn't. That's the whole point.
Ron laughed out loud with the reporter when asked if he would start again. They laughed at him. At you. Let it go.
I don't care if he starts again. I'd much rather he never start another game.

Finlay dropped in his own segment before Standig went on that he knows the Commanders are interested in Watson if the legal stuff clears and he has heard mixed things about whether Watson would be willing to come here.
Watson is probably going to go to the Steelers. I agree that Wilson is staying in Seattle. Rodgers is probably going to Denver.

It's a hate towards you people that keep bringing him up. Stop mentioning him.
Does he haunt you in your dreams if you mention him on this thread? He's necessary to be brought up when people are peddling Jimmy G or Trubisky as potential fits...because they are not much better than him. We need to really upgrade at the position, not negligibly upgrade.

And nobody really cares about him besides a few Hive fans on a message board.
And yet, here you are, angered over the fact that he was simply mentioned in this thread.
Heinicke is not the future starter for this team. He's the backup. You hate him. I get it.

This thread is about fixing our starting QB situation. Heinicke has nothing to do with that.
Yes he does. He secures the backup position. We've had 9 backups make starts since 2018.

Good.

Sure, most people acknowledge Heinicke is an adequate backup, but what exactly was the point of the whole post?
Because backups are not overstated by fans. You need adequate backups. See Colt McCoy on the Cardinals. They miss the playoffs if he goes 0-3 as a starter in place of Murray.

This is such a weird ass way of somehow pumping up Heinicke and trying to keep him relevant.
Nobody cares about him anymore. Not even Washington's coaches since they basically never even mention his name.
Wtf are you talking about? I'm not "pumping" him up. I'm saying he's an adequate backup that can win you some games when the starter goes down. Nothing more, nothing less.
And Rivera said that it was a "safe assumption" that he was going to be the backup this season.

Your season is over if the starting QB is out for any significant period of time. The value of the Back up QB IMO is grossly overstated by fans of football.
Your season could be over if the starting QB is out for the final 3 games, of which 2 of them is a must win, and you have Tim Boyle as your backup as opposed to Heinicke.

I have no idea how to fix the missing link going forward, but I do know that trading for Jimmy G or signing Trubisky, Winston, or Bridgewater ain't it. Of the realistic trade possibilities, I would prefer Wentz and to draft a QB in the first round.
-
I would not trade any first round picks for anyone not named Rodgers or Wilson. Wentz, IMO, is the best of the tradeable bunch if it's for a combo of 2nd or 3rd round picks.

The Seahawks kept the same coaching staff that has been with Wilson his entire career, and Wilson has two years left on his deal. There is no way he's getting traded.

Rodgers going to Tennessee would throw a wrench in the QB derby. Titans aren't necessarily a team many pegged for "needing" a QB. Of course it frees up Tannehill to be traded, but I'm not sure where he would end up. Some speculate he could come here, but I'm not sure that's any better or worse than trading for Garroppolo and, it's probably going to cost more.
Tannehill > Garoppolo
I wouldn't be upset with Tannehill and a draft pick, tbh.

Jimmy G wants to go to a "winning situation", so that rules this team out. Thank God.

"5 to 7 assets, including three first rounders" is what you are willing to give up for this?
1060/1544 - 68.7% completion - 100 total touchdowns - 37 turnovers - 104.7 passer rating - 8.6 AY/A - 7-19 record against winning teams
1028/1521 - 67.6% completion - 97 total touchdowns - 36 turnovers - 105 passer rating - 8.4 AY/A - 5-16 record against winning teams
The first quarterback is Deshaun Watson's statistics in his last 47 starts. The second is Kirk Cousins in his last 47 starts.
