I agree. Theres a lot that SIP does that is great. The defense of Ron and mediocrity as a whole in any fashion is just something I can never get my mind regardless of sport.

Where is he defending him?  Like at all?  Rivera managed to shut out the noise for the most part and have his team focus on football instead of the constant drama caused by this dip**** of an owner.  The results on the field have been mediocre, but the fact that he's managed to keep this team relatively relevant going into December every year under Snyder is what SIP is complimenting.  He's not declaring him Vince Lombardi.

  2. QB A:

    181/266

    68% Completion

    1681 Yards

    87.0 Passer Rating

    10 Total TDs

    8 Total Turnovers

    5.98 AY/A

    2-5 Record

    QB B:

    172/276

    62.3% Completion

    1755 Yards

    80.2  Passer Rating

    11 Total TDS

    10 Total Turnovers

    5.69 AY/A

    2-5 Record

QB A is Matt Ryan over his last 7 starts.  QB B is Carson Wentz over his last 7 starts.  This is why I am a bit hesitant to bring in a quarterback like Derek Carr who has previously shown that he struggles in new systems.

  3. Free agent quarterbacks I think could work out:
    -Tannehill

    -Minshew

    -Brady

Free agent quarterbacks I'm leery about:

    -Carr

    -Garoppolo

    -Mayfield

Free agent quarterbacks I do not want unless it's to be a backup:

    -Darnold

    -Bridgewater

    -Brissett

    -Smith

And I hope they steer very clear of Anthony Richardson.  I don't think they can draft a quarterback this year because all of the ones worth drafting are going to be gone.

Wow! That is unacceptable because you have to evaluate constantly. And let's face it, Carson had what most of us perceived as a solid season in Indy until that last game, with another win or go home scenario against a losing team. Maybe it is asking too much for a coach to be aware, but he already had "choke" in his repertoire. And so coming into a game with the exact same implications, therefore it should have been a very tight leash.  BUT then I am listening to Rivera admitting he gaffed on the significance of the loss. He really thought he had next week.

But he didn't have Brian Robinson!  The defense wasn't playing as well as it was!  Arm strength!  Tall!  Red hair!

Youre undying defense of Ron often in long diatribes is one of the most ridiculous bits on the board.

I'm sure SIP can speak for himself, but he is not a Rivera sycophant at all.  He's always fair in his posts, and I think he was essentially saying that Rivera was admitting that he's gotten the QB search wrong for 3 years now...or else he wouldn't have said that they are yet again searching for a QB1 in year 4.

There are other posters on here who had an undying loyalty to Carson freakin' Wentz in 2022...which was weird.

  5. Good thing that Rivera essentially ended any prospect of bringing back Wentz next year.  But I can't fathom how they watched him all week and thought that was going to provide a spark.  Chris Russell said that the portions of the practices last week that were open to the media, Wentz looked horrible and was inaccurate.  Totally inexcusable to play him.

he likes the game for Howell even more now that Dallas has something to play for,

This...actually is a good point.  Although I still think there is an argument to be made that you don't want to shellshock a young quarterback in a meaningless game, but there is no better test as to see whether or not he has what it takes against one of the best defenses in the league.

49ers have a big boy defense. Stidham isn’t a rookie but he doesn’t have a ton of experience. He looks fine.

Stidham is familiar with McDaniel's offense.  I want to see Howell.  But he's on the roster next year regardless of what happens in a meaningless week 18 game against a very good defense.  If Howell doesn't start, he should absolutely be the #2 and active and be ready to be inserted when the starter inevitably struggles, though.

if we are going with a pure football situation it’s a no brainer to play Howell IMO

Dallas is going to play their starters because they still have a shot at winning the division.  It would be malpractice to play Howell in this scenario.  If they think Howell's ceiling is a high level backup...what's the point in playing him in a meaningless game?  If they think Howell might be the guy...what's the point in playing him against a Dallas team that is going to try and win the division?

I was neutral on the Qb change, but I can’t blame Rivera for wanting to see if wentz would provide a spark. He didn’t, and that sucks. Whatever. It is what it is……not sure what else he could’ve done,  either way we would’ve lost. It sucks.

He could've stuck with Heinicke for to at least see how he responded after being benched for Wentz.  Every single measurable metric told you that this was going to happen today and people just ignored it.
