How in the world could you draw that conclusion from just one game?
I would say that if he comes out and looks like Nathan Peterman that that's a good indicator that he's probably not going to work out. Conversely, if he comes out and somehow is able to move the offense and score unlike the other 2 quarterbacks, that's a good indicator that there's a real possibility that going into next year with him in a competition for starter wouldn't be a bad thing.

You know that’s BS. He was done and relegated to a decent backup in a 40 rush, dominant defensive performance way, before the Browns game.
Yes, he was relegated to a decent backup in 2021. In 2022, however, as the best option on this team, you would have kept starting him if they won the Browns game. There would have been no desire to see how Wentz looked if he somehow won that game and they went to the playoffs.

However, if Ron started Heinicke and we lost - only in less ugly fashion, I don’t think there would be any finality at all on Heinicke and the jury would still sort of be out on Wentz. All we would hear about when we lost with Heinicke is about Scott Turner, the offensive line, the defensive woes, etc.
If they lost less ugly with Heinicke he would be done and relegated to a decent backup option for this team. They would then go to Wentz for the final game to see what they had in him. And once they lost that game ugly, then the line, playcalling, all of the players being hurt would be used as excuses. "He still didn't have Brian Robinson Jr.!"

Frank Herzog is on with Kevin Sheehan and said the stupid team didn't ask him to be at Sonny's celebration.

The only way you re-sign Heinicke next year is if you have a clear QB1 when doing so. Otherwise, you keep Howell as the presumptive backup for next year.

I am not down on the player as some here are. He actually was having a good year before the injury. But the injuries worry me. Especially with this team's track record.
If they go the free agent route, Jimmy G. would be my #1 pick. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Well obviously he didn't get the message that he's not going to be a Raider moving forward, but I meant he has to have gotten the message that he's off this team next season.

I think Carr was basically told he’s not going to be a Raider moving forward.
You don't think Wentz got this message as well?

I do have to give props to Carson, because he didn't take his ball and go home like Carr or Mariota. He's staying with the team and took the benching like a professional.

Hopefully Howell flashes but I don't think one game is gonna have some massive impact on the offseason. We are still gonna throw the bait line out there to lure somebody. If we get 'em is the question.
If we win this game with him throwing/rushing for 3+ touchdowns and no turnovers (yes, I know this is unlikely) that would be a considerable impact going into the offseason.

With us likely having a new coach in 2024; none of the qbs is likely here long term.
There is an outside shot that it can be Howell.

I don't find it that ironic.
Not what I was referring to. The last 1000 pages of this thread have been a constant reminder that Heinicke sucks. And yet there are people who keep posting as if there is this massive groundswell of posters who keep insisting that he doesn't suck and that he could be the guy. I've seen no such posts. Most of this board was ready to move on from Heinicke as maybe being the guy after 2021. They were cool with him as the backup. Yes, there are some who would be cool with him as the backup in 2023. -

He sucks, you keep railing on it as if we are arguing he doesn’t suck.
The irony of this is rich.

Even if that was the case, folks were done with Wentz after two drives. Nobody was holding out hope or making excuses.
Should have been the case. He was terrible here.

No one caped for Wentz
When the decision was made to go back for Wentz, there were people speculating that they would go on to play the Vikings and win a playoff game. It was no different than the delusion people who thought we could go on a Super Bowl run after the 5-1 start with Taylor. This season was just like the 2018 season. A mirage. The wheels were bound to fall off at some point.

This team is going to be destroyed.
Cowboys: 35
Hopefully the last Snyder owned Washington Team: 7

I however am not running around making up fake hero worship stories about my mancrush and then defending them to death. That's how you get snark.
All I did was post a tweet from an ESPN reporter. Rivera essentially confirmed it in his presser yesterday. Wince Harry failing has broken you.

He tell you that this morning?
I get it. Id' be upset to if the guy I had been championing all year turned out to be worse than Taylor Heinicke.
Just now, kingdaddy said:I would expect the team to want him back for insurance purposes and because he knows the offense and the coaches know him.
Howell is the insurance for the next few years.

So he’s going to pass up $ solely to be charitable to Howell?
He's not being "charitable". He knows they don't want him here and knows Howell is going to be here. He likes Howell and wants to see him get a shot. That's it.

Um, agreed? Not sure why you quoted me about that. It's what I said.
You did your whole snarky "yeah what a pal he doesn't want to get destroyed by that defense he's terrified of but slobbered all over last year" post. Which was unnecessary other than to take a shot at Heinicke.

I'd guess it's more of a "why bother" situation for him.
If Rivera told him that he was going to start but they were going to alternate drives with Howell, he really likes and supports Howell (according to Howell himself)...so I don't understand why it's a stretch for him to tell Rivera just to start Howell because he's earned it with the way he improved. Heinicke is self aware enough to know no matter how well (or poorly) he plays, he's likely gone from this team in the off season.

Taylor with no running game and a depleted defense against a motivated Dallas team. Seems like a business decision more than it is charity. The last thing he wants to do going into FA is have his last game on tape be a bloodbath.
Or maybe he knows he's gone next year and figures that since Howell is going to be on the team, why not let him get the start? Rivera and Howell alluded to this in their pressers yesterday.

Heinicke is such a great guy letting Howell play in front of the defense that Heini is terrified of, who he slobbered all over last year. What a pal.
So Heinicke is doing this because he's scared of Dallas? Is that the narrative now?
-
My understanding is that Rivera told Heinicke he would start but they were going to sprinkle in Howell, so Heinicke just told Rivera that Howell deserves to start the full game.

Heinicke remembers the defensive game plan that RBR had for Kayvon Thibodeaux. I would offer to let Howell start as well. Good business decision. 😂
Heinicke gets a bonus if he plays 60% of the snaps, so it's a bad business decision.

In all honesty, I think how Howell plays determines whether or not they try to resign Heinicke. If Howell falls flat, I think they try to resign him. If he plays decent to great, I think they'll let him walk.
