Also having the schedule extend through November is absurd. They should basically target Opening Day around April 15 and Game 7 of the WS for October 15. It’ll never happen but I can dream.

In the NL, 1-4 are set as Atlanta, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Philadelphia. Miami and Arizona will have the 5 and 6 seeds, but they are currently even at 84 wins. If Sunday ends with Arizona at 85 wins and Miami with 84, the marlins have to go to Detroit and finish a game that was suspended in the ninth with the marlins up 2-1. In any other circumstance the result of that Detroit game won’t matter so I’d assume the don’t play it. in the AL, 1, 3, 4 are set as Baltimore, Minnesota and Tampa. For the 2 seed, if Houston catches up to Texas, Houston will be the 2 seed, Texas will be 5 and Toronto will be 6. If Houston doesn’t catch Texas then Texas is the 2 seed, and Toronto has the tiebreaker with Houston if they remain tied in the standings.

So it turns out the story is even weirder than we could imagine. He played wingman to set his mom up with his stepdad, became a Broncos ballboy, played football at Yale, got fired by Jay Gruden, and then eventually got the Dolphins job.

My sister lives in a very nice Dallas suburb-- Tony Romo lives in the subdivision across the pond from them. There are a nonzero number of houses in her neighborhood with, "Joe and the Ho have to go" signs up in the front yard. (No word on whether Tony Romo's house is one of them) The sad part is that they think they're trolling us while we're mostly sad for them. They've let election politics become they're entire identity and are actively recessing themselves from all the things that actually make America great.

It is a really weird phenomenon IMO. I understand that every moderate Republican who stands with Democrats will get primaried in the next election and lose his/her job, but at the same time, these guys have to understand the historical context. It all will fall apart for the Republican party, likely in the next 10 years*, and I can't imagine all of these "moderate" Republicans wanting to be associated with everything that will happen. *And yes, I'm aware we've been saying for ~15 years. That said, Republicans are exhibiting EXTREME measures to keep power. Gerrymandering has always been around, but they're getting more and more aggressive with voter suppression in Texas, impeaching supreme court judges in WI for no reason, ignoring US Supreme Court decisions, etc. 2022 was tailor made for them as an election and they barely took the house, which is the issue they're facing right now. McCarthy didn't think he needed the ultra-cons when he was positioning himself for speaker, which explains part of the reason they're being so vindictive to him.

There are a bunch of unwritten rules at play here too. If McCarthy tries to cut a deal with the Democrats, then the ~12 republicans can immediately call a vote for a new speaker of the house. McCarthy would immediately be out of his job as speaker and there’s no single congressperson (from either party) that can get the 218 votes needed to become speaker. Pelosi was sometimes in similar straits with the AOC squad but she always managed to find her way out for two reasons. 1) she’s a master negotiator and could find common ground; 2) the squad are generally pragmatists and looking to get small wins, as opposed to being dogmatic for the sake of demonstrating their power over the party.
