  1. What a bargain, there’s about 6 guys on that list we can probably get relatively cheaply right now.
  2. Two firsts for Carr is crazy. I’d much prefer to continue building with those picks and look elsewhere for a bridge QB until we can find our franchise guy.
  3. It wouldn’t shock me if we use our first and one of our thirds to move up a few spots to get a QB in the draft. I just don’t see any of the top 5 guys falling to us a #19.
  4. If it’s true that Washington made a better offer I’m glad Detroit didn’t take it (regardless of the reasoning). I think Detroit got a very good deal and the Rams got out from under a QB contract they didn’t want.
  5. For what Watson will cost in draft capital the team that gets him better be ready to win right now. I really like DW but I’m not ready to mortgage the future for him; we still have too many holes. I think Stafford is a good fit, but I wouldn’t get in a bidding war for him either. His age plus medical history has to keep the price tag reasonable for this to be worthwhile. A second and one of our thirds would be a great deal, but I think it’s going to cost more than that to get him. His back injury scares me enough I wouldn’t go any higher. I think picking up a free agent like Winston, Newton or similar and a good early draft(1-3 rounds) is the best path. Bring them in to compete with the beer man and Allen (assuming he is healthy) and look for our potential franchise QB with a later round developmental pick or next year. All this could change depending on the draft, if someone the team likes (Young, Jones) falls to #19 we jump and go on from there. Lots of rambling to say I don’t think we are just a good QB away from winning a Super Bowl. We definitely need one but not at the expense of all our other needs.
  6. It seems the way of today’s NFL is athletic, mobile QBs. I think the WFT really needs to follow suit. There is a reason all these older stand in the pocket and throw QB’s are available (excludes Watson). If they aren’t sold on a QB that is available to them this year I’m good with a stop gap guy and hope to get our guy next year. I think our #1’s are too valuable to trade on a stop gap QB.
  7. We don’t need elite play, we need consistently good play and stability at the QB position. We need to not be in the QB market every year. I’ve given up on trying to determine what college QBs are going to translate well in the nfl, but they pay people a bunch of money to figure that out. If there’s a guy they all like available when we pick take him. I think I’m in favor of picking up somebody we have seen can play in this league without giving up our #1 and picking up a stud tackle or WR with our first round pick. I think when it is all said and done Stanford or potentially Carr could both be available without using our #1.
  8. If Ron is making all the football decisions (coach centric), Rob Rogers is the contract/cap guy and Kyle Smith is the scouting/player personnel guy what exactly is Hurney’s job? Is this the end of Kyle?
  9. D. Watson isn’t going anywhere. They will hire a coach he wants and they will press on.
  10. Heinicke reminds me a bit of a younger Colt McCoy. Smart guy on the field, good decision maker but a mediocre arm. He’s probably not the face of the franchise, but he can probably be a great backup rolling into next season. I’d rather role into Sunday night with Alex, but I definitely think we have a better chance with Taylor than we would with Dwayne if Alex can’t go.
  11. His mom gave him a C+. I think she is a pretty tough grader. Chase is going to be everything we hoped he would be if he can stay healthy. I’m not convinced he is 100% right now and the offensive lines are still game planning to stop him. I’m optimistic that he and Sweat will get there groove on and be dominant for years to come.
  12. I’m not implying that it is easy or pouting. I fully understand in the NFC East it is particularly important to be able to stop the run. I’m simply stating our current OL is not very good. I sincerely hope that those responsible for such things acknowledges this and has a plan to address the problem.
  13. Been watching a lot of QB breakdowns of Haskins and Allen; I didn’t realize how bad our OL has really been. This is not a defense of Haskins because he did not play well at all, but the line didn’t help. We allow free runners way to often and any kind of delayed DL stunt seems to be beyond our OLs ability to adjust. Allen reads D’s a bit quicker and gets rid of the ball quicker so he looks better, but we need serious help. Between free agency and the draft if the OL doesn’t improve they will not win. Maybe Charles develops into a starting OT, maybe not but I still believe games are won within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage. We have dedicated much effort and resources of the defensive side, time to give some to the other side. Until then, we better run the ball well or we won’t win another game.
  14. I’ve watched a lot of Lawrence’s games and there is no doubt he is a great prospect. A couple of slight concerns: (1) He very often throws to his first read (not his fault because his guys are always open), but you haven’t seen him do a lot of reading and finding third or fourth option. (2). He works almost exclusively in the middle of the field (once again if it’s open take it, rarely if ever see him throw outside. (3). He feeds on weak DB’s, target rich environment in the ACC, he doesn’t look as good against quality DBs. All that said, I’d take him without hesitation. He will be the first pick of next years draft most likely to the New York Jets. Fields looks good too behind a dominant OLine throwing to wide open future NFL receivers. He has a strong arm and is a very good runner. He seems to be a one read then run kinda guy but it is very effective. I’m not sure if it’s a lingering thing from past OU guys, but I’m just not as high on Fields as the other two. That said, he looks like a very good prospect and I wouldn’t be upset if we drafted him. I just started watching film on Trey Lance and I must admit I am very impressed. Great arm, great athlete, takes care of the ball. Level of competition and his limited time as a starter are concerns. Might be too tough for his on britches because he takes on too many tacklers and takes solid hits so he would definitely need to work on that at the next level or he will get killed. With 3 years of eligibility left he will probably need a little more prep time, but I’m sure they would rush him ready or not. Last prediction I read had the Washington Football Team picking 6th (not sure how they came to that conclusion because I’m not sure we win another game). I’m still thinking second, third at the latest. I don’t think Lawrence will be in play, but most likely Fields and Lance will be. I think either guy will be a step in the right direction. If we do pick 6th, I think Fields could be gone before that so we might be debating on Lance or the best player available.
  15. I do and I think I would also. Cam has taken a ton of hits over the past several years and isn’t what he was, but I still think he’s better than what we have. Cam as a bridge to a developing QB works for me. Gives us a few years to try to increase the talent around him and give a young guy some time to develop. I think we kinda tried that with Alex but he got broke. When what your doing isn’t working you have to try something different; we have proven what doesn’t work.
  16. I can tell you what doesn’t work; going into every draft needing a QB. Hit on one and the next 5 years you can pick talent to put around them. Miss and start all over. We just can’t seem to pick the right one. Is it lousy scouting, horrible talent evaluation, owner meddling, desperation or maybe a bit of all of that. I like Lawrence and Fields, but I don’t know if either of their games translates to the pros. Haskins had a great year behind an offensive line that was better than about every defensive line they played and receivers that were 3 steps open on every route. See how well that is working out. Lawrence looks great beating up on lesser talent ACC schools and Fields is doing what Haskins did. We are going to keep picking until we get it right.
  17. If Lawrence is there you have to take him. If not I say we go OT and pick a veteran QB up. Maybe Alex will be 100% and carry us for a couple years.
  18. Who runs the team if Ron has to miss time? OC and DC have full time jobs, I’m guessing DC because of his experience.
  19. Tolerance is acceptance and not knowing something you should know is no defense. That said, a slap on the wrist and a healthy fine and this will all be forgotten in a month. Back to the new name, I'm thinking RedTails is going to be the winner as soon as it clears the copyright hurdles.
  20. You can delegate authority, but you can't delegate responsibility. If Dan was an employee he would most certainly be fired, but he's not. Unless this is truly just the tip of the proverbial ice burg, Dan will pay his fine and ride this wave out. Owners do not want to set precedents that make it easier to get rid of themselves. I'm still a little confused, what's changed since Bruce was fired? We had damn good culture back then.
  21. This is no problem for Ron. He's the new sheriff in town and he's just here to clean things up. Whatever the current crisis he can be the savior and certainly wasn't the cause of the problem. I think he is the right guy o the job. I expect nothing earth shattering from what ever this new announcement. Ron seems to have a big enough stick that if he wants day-to-day help handling the non football issues he could certainly get it. Maybe it's Kyle behind the scenes or maybe he doesn't want any other voices in he room. Only time will tell. HTT?
  22. As long as Dan owns 60% of the team, the sale of minority shares has little to no impact. Unless he has decided to back out of majority ownership (which he apparently has not) we are stuck wih Dan. Maybe if someone with deep pockets buys all 40% they could leverage control if we hit hard financial times. Meantime, we got Dan and a new name coming.
  23. This young man is athletic and has good feet. He needs to get stronger and has the frame to support it. My expectation is that he will start this year as a backup/swing tackle and when either tackle gets hurt (like they always seem to around here) he will step in and never look back. He will be our starting left tackle for the next several years after that. Coach O loves this dude. He stressed accountability for your actions and this is evident in this young mans attitude.. He was the heart of the best offensive line in college football last year and I expect this to carry on to the NFL. Trent was the cornerstone for years, but the skins didn't win (not his fault). Hopefully his tenure as our cornerstone accompanied by the other changes can result in some wins. HTTR.
