  1. @clskinsfan you also have the unfortunate situation where there are a lot of people spreading seriously bad and harmful misinformation on this specific topic, at this specific time. Some of them are doing it because they’re genuinely confused, but trying to participate. This is unfortunate but hey that’s life. some are doing it because they are, as a standard way of operating, ignorant and more interested in finding someone and something to argue about, rather than be productive people in a community. These people suck. Some people are doing it on purpose for whatever motive they have. Evil people. so, it’s easy to get piled on, jumped on, and for people to be overly harsh even if you don’t feel it was warranted. i tried to temper my own harshness but, alas, that is a problem of mine (find me in the tailgate for examples ) anyways - that’s a long way of saying I’m sorry for the harshness in my posts, and that I do not think you are a bad person. though I always reserve my right to change my mind later
  2. You’re fine. And generally speaking I’d move past and not bother. but right now we have a serious issue and there’s a lot of misinformation floating around we have entire states where farm supply stores are currently out of stock of horse de-worming medicine because people seem to have read online that works…. so, I decided to comment. And my harshness only (intentionally) increased when it seemed you weren’t getting what I was saying my wife works high up in healthcare. For the better part of 2020 she had weekly meetings with the cdc as a rep for managing a large region with lots of people. My information is not perfect as things get lost in translation (and we have several posters that frequent the covid/vaccine threads in the tailgate that are much more knowledgeable than me) but I’ll go toe to toe with any internet random on this topic at the moment. anyways you should take it seriously. And having questions, being confused, being reluctant or hesitant is completely natural and expected. In fact, if that wasn’t your first way of responding to this whole thing, then there might be something wrong with you talk to your doctor. Make sure you’re understanding what the cdc, nih, and your state health department are saying stay away from Twitter/YouTube - There be dragons.
  3. I think he means immunity from being naturally exposed. im not super familiar with that aspect except for how long those immunities last. I’m not familiar with any argument that suggests natural is better/worse than vaccination. only about how long those immunities last at what the slope of your efficacy over time is… I would think having natural immunities from infection, all that goes with it, would be “better” (in the sense that it’s a more robust exposure to the every element of the virus and the disease it causes) than simply being exposed to the spike protein that carries it (which is what an mRNA vaccine is doing) how that translates into getting sick when exposed… I’m unaware of that aspect. (if he does mean just… natural immunity prior to any exposure… then yeah I think we’ve already been shown what that looks like. See: the year 2020. But I’m not really sure what that’s even getting at…)
  4. It is not off base. this has been explained multiple times by multiple people. refuting overwhelming data, publicly available, about the vaccines efficacy using “hospitalizations” is, at best, wrong. again - we’ve got a claim that: - ignores overwhelming data, publicly available, analyzed by the people that are supposed to be the best in the world at doing this - uses a piece of data (hospitalizations) incorrectly, and in a way that suggests the person doesn’t know anything about how hospitals operate, or how to interpret statistical information We got the playoff refs today!!!!!
  5. Specific to the article: props to rivera if more people in positions of influence took such an attitude, and was so direct, misinformation would not be such a terrible issue
  6. If it didn’t have an impact the % vaccinated and % unvaccinated that are at each state of “seriousness” on the illness scale, should roughly reflect the % of each group in the community the hospital serves. Although based on what we know you’d have to break that down into demographics as well as which variant (and degree of illness) to get really into it (certain demos are more vulnerable, certain variants are more contagious/harmful, etc. ) you can’t just go throwing around numbers without any nuance as to what it actually means. to measure impact, you would look at how they differ. But as has been explained “hospitalizations” doesn’t mean anything. A hospitalization means you were admitted. If you were put on a ventilator in the icu, you are still a hospitalization. If you are released 20 minutes later and told to drink fluids and call your doctor if it gets worse, you are still a hospitalization. being admitted to the hospital = hospitalization. it means nothing about why, or how serious your illness is, or how long you were there. we do have statistics that do mean something: - icu occupancy/available beds - nurse-patient ratios - patient acuity - ED boarding status - number of ventilators available - whether a hospital is currently in a redirecting status or not and even those don’t tell the whole picture. You’d need some community statistics and someone to speak to it (ie: are you boarding in the ED because 2 buses filled with kids collided? Or because there’s a covid outbreak. ) you guys are throwing around an awful lot of numbers and “facts” you don’t seem to actually understand. im not trying to be a jerk - I’m just trying to explain this. if you don’t have a firm grip on how hospitals operate, report numbers and what they mean, or how to analyze statistics and data modeling you should probably chill out on telling others what’s going on (much less arguing about it with people that actually do understand it) and yeah, running around telling people things that aren’t true, for which you have no data to back up, is spreading misinformation. if you don’t like being told you’re spreading misinformation, my suggestion is to stop spreading misinformation.
  7. I already explained it. you are claiming vaccinated people are getting seriously ill all publicly available data suggests otherwise (a fact you seem to not be aware of) you cite 20% of hospitalizations being vaccinated people. when asked what that means, you said *checks notes*, “Don't know.” (and then made some silly claim that they can’t release that information despite that exact type of information being released all over the place FOR THE LAST 15-17 MONTHS) You apparently struggle with basic reading as well as this is the third time I’ve explained this to you. you should strive to understand something before running around trying to tell everyone else about it. You won’t look as silly.
  8. You seem to have completely missed what I said. I didn’t say 20% aren’t vaccinated. I said that you don’t seem to understand what that statement means, based solely on how you’re using it. You, are a misinformation spreader. stop it.
  9. You sure they can’t release that info? What law is preventing that? I’m unaware of such a thing. (ICU numbers and other numbers related to current status, including boarding, are released all the time by tons of places) so you don’t know anything about it other than 20% are vaccinated? (So they can’t tell you % in icu, etc, but they can tell you vaccination status? Lol) then you should refrain from building arguments about how vaccinated people are still getting seriously ill. Because you clearly do not know if that is the case. Citing a hospitalization means absolutely nothing. I could go to the ED right now and complain of an ear ache/infection, be admitted and checked out with a script for an antibiotic, and I would be a “hospitalization” and you would be unable to glean anything about how serious my illness was. all current data shows vaccinated people, by and large, are not getting seriously ill. so in addition to not understanding the information you do have, you should be aware there’s strong information out there (publicly available) on this specific topic that you obviously don’t have. (generally it doesn’t seem you know what you’re talking about…)
  10. What’s the beak down on the patient population? if you go to the hospital and their initial evaluation is such that you need to be checked in, you count as a hospitalization. Even if you’re sent home 45 minutes later and told you’re fine but to look for certain escalations in symptoms. that’s very different than needing an icu bed. and not every hospitalization is a serious illness.
  11. Yeah it’s almost as if the cdc is operates using the scientific method of evaluating current data and understanding, forming opinion/recommendations based on it, then continuing to evaluate the data as it changes or they receive more of it, and then adjusting their opinion/recommendations as they notice changes in the data. oh the horror! (But for real it’s just dumb people complaining that it’s hard to follow the scientists as they analyze something brand new and very challenging and complex) ((it’s not that hard to follow for a person of average intelligence and honesty, but some people are just that dumb and dishonest))
  12. We were just talking about the insurance thing like a week ago… assuming this there will be lots more decisions like it.
  13. Hah yeah thought it was on one of the Reddit threads. So now I feel dumb. Haha
  14. I’m just saying… we missed the boat with the whole injecting bleach thing. It’s right here in front of us again. We don’t have to tell them it’ll work. In fact we can absolutely put a sign on it that says do not eat. I’m just saying if we made it readily available…
  15. So. Been doing a deep dive on Afghanistan highlights over the two decades. reddit has got this thing on lock by the way. anyways. Stumbled upon a long video that included this clip I’m about to describe (apologies it’s a summarized description of something I’ll watched like 3 nights ago - the general concept of what was going on is correct though) oh and it matches everyone’s story that I personally know that was deployed to Afghanistan and actually saw regular amounts of combat (my understanding is most people deployed dont…) The middle eastern (or more specifically Taliban/al qaeda types ?) idea of combat is impressively stupid. They believe allah will make the bullets hit their target. I’m not kidding. I’m watching green berets sit in a hole with an Afghan army machine gunner, and the US dude is like “uh, what are you shooting at” and he just points off yonder and the US dude is like “um. No. You can’t hit him if you can’t see him. You’re just wasting ammo and giving your position away” and this back and forth repeats like 3 times until the US dude basically orders him to stop and then goes into a deep lecture on how you cannot hit something if you cannot see it - which is insane you’d never thought there was so much to say about such a simple concept. Afghan dude gets mad, picks up his machine gun, runs down range to join his guys with the rifles and they’re all just shooting. And US dude looks at another US dude and just says, oh so plainly, “they’re just shooting…. Like, in a general direction. They haven’t seen anyone in 20 minutes. He got so mad he just ran down there to join the shooting…” And it’s like holy **** these people are so dumb. The god damn revolutionary war tactics of both sides lining up across from each other, everyone taking aim, everyone firing together makes WAY more sense. At least they were following the basic framework of 1. See target 2. Aim at target 3. Fire
  16. Wait do what now? You’re continuing to take tests to see if you’re still positive? is that something your doctor told you? Cause seems super weird. On multiple fronts. given that people test positive months after infection because it hangs out in their nasal cavity… I’m struggling to understand what the point even is. You already know you’ve been infected. Hope you get better soon. I had it back in October. Ultimately I was fine but it was scary/rough at moments.
  17. Don’t worry you’re not missing anything there’s no registered users in any single thread
  18. let’s make more horse drugs. Tons more. and whoever wants to eat them can have as many as they want. I honestly don’t see the point not care anymore. The sooner these people stop having a say in how society operates the better. **** make the horse drugs free. Whatever that costs us in taxes will return gigantic dividends. hell just admitting climate change is real will pay back on that investment 10 fold.
  19. Well. And don’t get me wrong, I’m way out of my league here, I’m just repeating my understanding listening to others… as much as what you’ve said is true, our completely withdrawal (among other things over the last year) kind of kills our intelligence and operations ability in the entire area. for instance, we have no bases in Afghanistan and we have yet to secure rights to air passage over any neighboring countries. basically, as it stands, a drone strike in Afghanistan requires us committing an act of war against another country by violating their airspace for a military operation (maybe that’s an overdramatized description?) will that stop us? Well, not necessarily. We went after bin Ladin. And there’s countless other examples. it certainly creates an interesting scenario. And there will surely be times, or specific presidents, where that issue stops them from doing it.
