  1. O's win! 2/3 in NY! If someone said we would do that before Opening Day, I thought they were insane.
  2. That should have been strike 3 call on Stanton. Even the YES announcers were saying it was knee high (looked about a inch to me), and it was over the plate. Voit just sent a soft grounder to SS Martin to end the inning,, so no damage done.
  3. Wow Rickard. 7 runs, all by home run. this is like the Showalter O's.
  4. Seems like we've walked Stanton like 10 times this series.
  5. Right, dunno what I was thinking ... Os had a 4 run lead when Bleier entered the game so no save opportunity until he created one by surrendering 2 runs. That allowed Wright to get the save.
  6. Nice win ... always great to beat the Yanks. Was Karns supposed to be an "opener" or was he pulled for some reason? And shouldn't Bleier have been charged with a blown save?
  7. Good news: Mancini looked good Bad news: Everything else
  8. Your 2019 Norfolk Tides starting lineup 1) Cedric Mullins CF 2) Dwight Smith Jr. LF 3) Jonathan Villar 2B 4) Trey Mancini DH 5) Rio Ruiz 3B 6) Joey Rickard RF 7) Chris Davis 1B 8- Jesus Sucre C 9) Richie Martin SS P Andrew Cashner
  9. Any prediction for wins? I'm going to go with 43. Seems harsh, but I don't see how we improved over last year. I just don't see much talent on this team at all. There could be a few surprises from our young guys but it won't make up for the disaster that is the starting rotation and a so-so bullpen.
  10. But the SC already ruled it Constitutional back in 2012. True, one justice has been flipped from (kind sorta) liberal to conservative (Kavanaugh for Kennedy), but I don't think Kavanaugh overturns it. I could also see Gorsuch making an exception and siding with the liberal wing. Both of them also happened to clerk for Kennedy. If they do overturn it, its a serious blow the respectability of the SC. I"m not sure there's a single case of the SC blatantly reversing itself in the course of 7 years.
  11. Chris Davis hit another homerun today, pushes his OPS to 770 (according to a post on OH). He's definitely making the team. I can't see his release anytime before next year. They'll give him at least half the year, even if he's terrible. By then, they'll be close to the trade deadline and September call-ups that his roster spot won't matter much, plus they can stash him on the 30-day/60-day DL if necessary.
  12. Still only like 1/40th of Bezos 🙂 NFL comes close on a year by year basis. Trout is earning $36m per year. Aaron Rodgers earns $33m per year. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbadenhausen/2018/09/20/the-nfls-highest-paid-players-2018-aaron-rodgers-leads-with-76-million/#cb50ec0117bd With the NFL though, contracts almost never go beyond 6 years, because signing bonus money can only be spread out over 5 years. Also players are much more likely to have career ending injuries.
  13. Let's say a truck company released a commercial 18-wheeler, which was 14% more fuel efficient than comparable trucks on the market. But it had a flaw, which was a tendency to drift to the right. So they added some sensor to detect whether the vehicle was drifting right, and automatically steer to left correct it. Problem is sometimes the sensor failed, and it would steer to the left when it was travelling in a straight line. Now the company knew about this flaw, which had caused a multiple fatality accident when a truck veered into oncoming traffic, but their response was to circulate a memo to all trucking companies informing them of the problem, but otherwise not taking any other corrective action, such as recalling the truck, or forcing recertification of drivers.
  14. So the vote for the EU to grant an extension has to be unanimous? Also does the UK get to vote? It would be ironic if the UK MEP votes not to give his own country an extension 😄 Though since the UK MEP is Farage, I guess you woule expect that.
  15. Yes. Without good reason(calling for new elections or a second referendum), apparently no. Its hard to make the case for an extension without a clear reason. Otherwise the bloody show could drag on indefinitely. In any case, I think they want this wrapped up, one way or the other, before next EU elections which at are the end of May 🙂
  16. The market may have already factored in a hard Brexit. Pre-Brexit I think it was aorund 1.6, now its around 1.3. Or else they are hoping for a deal at the last minute. Could the Queen step in, dissolve Parliament, and call for new elections?
  17. If universities operate for profit though, they shouldn't get the tax-exemption
  18. I was thinking total value, not literally giving him a $50m check to go away. They could keep the deferred payments and offer him say, 50% of his base which is for 4/68. So save $34m which is quite substantial. Only other situation which is close is Fielder. When you factor in insurance and the Tigers pitching in, it only came out to about $36m charge to the Rangers I believe. Edit: Davis base is 17/year or 68 total for the next 4 years.
  19. If the choice was to spend the next four years doing something that makes me miserable for $100 million vs. taking $50 million (or more) to do nothing, I'd probably take the latter deal.
  20. Apparently the solution is to cut out the middleman and bribe the universities directly.
  21. Didn't some UVA rep admit a while a back that the student's ability to pay was factor in admission? This stuff has been going on for a while https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/at-u-va-a-watch-list-flags-vip-applicants-for-special-handling/2017/04/01/9482b256-106e-11e7-9d5a-a83e627dc120_story.html?utm_term=.103481ea315b This isn't the exact article I was thinking of (it a while ago), but this is very similar
  22. Geez, getting started early, aren't they? I thought they would have at least waited for something concrete like the UK attempting to put up a soft border.
  23. Let's say you hire someone to paint your house for say $1000. Halfway through, they say they don't feel like painting houses anymore and decides to quit. Would you say you owed them the full $1000 ?
  24. I'd love for the MLBPA to say that: "We object to the Baltimore Orioles forcing Chris Davis to actually fufill his contract and play baseball" Granted if they tried to do something a bit shady like make him pitch would be one thing (I'm not sure what his contract says about that) Why would it be so controversial for the Os to expect CD to fufill his contract? They work both ways you know Maybe they could just stop paying him because they're "unhappy" about his performance. I'd be totally on the Os side if they do that. In fact, I'd lose a little respect for them if they didn't. Its become a little tiresome seeing fat cat players mailing it in after signing a big contract.
  25. Sure there is. The O's can force CD to at least go through the motions of being a MLB player for the next 4 years. They are not obligated to cut him due to performance reasons. Especially since they probably aren't going to be competitive for the next 3 years at least, that is one card the Os are holding. If its true about CD really hating baseball, he might not want to be forced to play.
