BBC: China pneumonia outbreak: COVID-19 Global Pandemic
DCSaints_fan replied to China's topic in The Tailgate
I think its time for some drastic measures. I'd propose a 30 day furlough and quarantine for all workers in non-essential industries, public and private, whether infected or not. Non essential meaning everything thats not food, medical, power, water, police, fire, most manufacturing and most transportation. -
The NHL could forgo the rest of the regular season and then pick up with the playoffs in May if things have returned to normal. Take the standings as they are now which would give the Caps the 2 seed. Maybe also only take the top 4 teams per conference instead of the top 8. This would eliminate the Penguins ๐ Also Ovechkin would be tied with Pasternak and earn another Richard ๐

At this point itโs hard to see how imagine they donโt follow suit. At minimum the Sharks canโt play with a crowd in San Jose for the foreseeable future

Well there was that time Larry David tripped Shaquille O'Neal (accidentally of course) so i think its definitely possible -
Since they used the word โsuspendโ Iโd say yes. Otherwise they would have said โcancelledโ

If they went that route, the most likely way is by using the Selective Service. But it would take an act of Congress in order to reinstate it (I guess, with Rump you never know). -

Young children do not have healthier immune systems, itโs quite the opposite actually. This is why they are more susceptible to the flu. But Covid 19 seems to be a huge exception -

As a followup, I'm wondering if air pollution is playing a role. Would explain why its not as serious in young children - they haven't been exposed as long. -

More like 2-4 weeks http://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2020/02/some-covid-19-patients-test-positive-days-after-recovery But this is for people who required hospitalization. I think < 20% of the cases required hospitalization. http://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2020/02/study-72000-covid-19-patients-finds-23-death-rate -
Audi Field to Host Washington DC Defenders XFL Team in 2020

They can't really schedule much later than they have. Otherwise it runs into NBA, NHL playoffs and start of baseball season. Yes, there's March Madness but you can't wait for that to end because it makes the problem worse. Also, a substantial chunk of their talent pool, is coming from marginal NFL players. NFL minicamps start in mid-May. They could convince guys who might sign NFL reserve/future contracts, to play for the XFL instead (the XFL at least pays them - most NFL reserve/futures contracts get zero). They would then they still have a reasonable shot at the NFL. But you don't want to make players choose between the NFL and the XFL. -

There's no point. They may as well relax travel bans now to at least soften the economic blow. -

I wanted to do somethign like this months back - I was convinced the stock market was simply overvalued. But when I looked at my 401k options, it seemed like everyone was heavily tied to US stock market to some degree. -

I'm wondering why some of these doctors who work at hospitals associated with universities didn't just pass on a sample to some of the academics who had access to PCR machines. -

Ouch, Landry Jones suffers knee injury. Dallas backup with backup QB Phillip Jones drives down to the 2 with th ehelp of some penalties. Dallas TE bobbles the ball on a screen and Houston gets its 4th INT of the day. First down on subsequent drive by Houston seals the deal. Defenders-Vipers up next.
