  1. If I understand they forfeited a 6th rounder comp pick for the signing, too. The scary thing is what if Trent misses his 4-5 customary games a year -- if so we might be seeing some Flowers.
  2. The Redskins other first-round pick, linebacker Montez Sweat, stands out because of his measurables. "I have no doubt he'll play a lot," Redskins coach Jay Gruden said. "The skill set is obvious. You see his length, you watch him run after practice and he's probably faster than anyone we have right now." John Keim, ESPN Staff Writer2h ago
  3. Agree on I was one of the people that touted Banogu on the draft thread as a 2nd tier type pass rusher that I like. Regardless, Sweat has the tools to be elite. Banogu not so much. We got IMO too many solid-good players and not enough killer game breaker types. Sweat has the tools to be great. It's part of the reason why I also loved (no pun intended) the Bryce Love pick. If Love gets back to healthy, he has elite level talent.
  4. Looks like Murphy is looking like a one year wonder. It drives me crazy to think we traded down that time with the Cowboys so they can take D. Lawrence and we got Murphy.
  5. I like Anderson against the run but LOVE Sweat against the run. Sweat against the run is an animal. Anderson is an effort guy in large part -- he doesn't have long arms or good speed for that position but plays with an attitude, strong hands and is smart. Sweat on the other hand has freakish speed and freakish arm length -- the one thing that most obviously stands out in my view above all when watching him is his play against the run. If a RB gets past Anderson he's unlikely going to chase you down. Sweat can chase you down. I think good shot he quickly becomes the best run stopper in the league at edge.
  6. Love the pick. Hopefully character wise and health wise it all checks out -- most seem to think it will. I see PFF isn't a big fan of him and said he will remind us of Preston Smith -- solid-good but nothing special. I think they will be wrong. Will see. He's explosive. Maybe not with the bend-agility of a dude like Brian Burns but IMO its easy to see the burst-speed. He plays with a high motor, has multiple pass rushing moves, a menace to QBs. I always thought Preston is somewhat overrated against the run. Generally I liked Preston so am not down on him. Sweat to me reminds me very little of Preston. Forgetting the speed and pass rushing ability -- the dude is a monster against the run. He has the longest wingspan of any eligible edge rusher in this draft. I show some of his run stopping in the mix of pass rushing here. But that dude to me will be a tremendous help among other things to stop the run. With Allen and Sweat likely manning the right side -- I'd pick my poison by running outside zone on the left in Kerrigan's direction. The thing is Landon will likely play a lot on the left side since its typically the strong side to help stop the run. My point is for all of Sweat's pass rushing potential -- I think we also added one of the best run stopping edge guys in the league. Wonder where @volsmetis? He was a big Sweat guy. 😀 My only concern about Sweat is dropping back into coverage. The games I watched I didn't see much of that so I assume that will be an adjustment. With some players you got to look hard to find highlight plays. But for Sweat its easy whether its pass rushing or stopping the run. sweat5.mp4 sweat4.mp4 sweat3.mp4 sweat.mp4 sweat2.mp4
  7. That's a great video of Terry taking the call. Hoffman said in all his time doing post draft interviews Terry was the best interview he's had. He says he really has it together -- well spoken, thoughtful the whole nine yards. He's a 2 time captain, leader, some say will be the best special teams player in the league -- he's an elite level college special teams player. He has elite athleticism. People giving him a hard time for having "just" 700 yards for a team that didn't throw deep much -- (with 20 YPR and 11 Tds) and trying to make the case that the dude is a JAG is crazy IMO. But I've taken some arrows here and there for liking McLaurin well before we drafted him. So I am pretty well versed to take on his critics. So I'll likely get to exercise those muscles I presume some more going forward. 😀 Among other things, the dude was taken in the mid-third round. He was not projected as a late rounder as some say. At worst, they got him pretty much where most anticipated. Not that it matters. If I recall the hit rate on third rounders give or take is 25%. It's not the round where you get these mega productive killer receivers. Instead, you get guys typically with potential that you bet on. McLaurin to me is a good bet IMO. I'd add that especially in the later rounds you want high character overachiever types who I think are more likely to work to keep getting better. I'd add that the dude can block, too. Rare for a speedy receiver. You can play him outside and inside.
  8. The Redskins needed more speed and leadership at receiver. They got that in third-round pick Terry McLaurin from Ohio State. There are questions about some aspects of his game -- it's why he lasted to the third -- but he's a player coaches will love. He's detailed with his routes, can play inside or outside, plays special teams and is a willing blocker, too. Plus the receiver room needs someone who can be a leader. That would be asking a lot of a rookie, but he can eventually grow into that role. They would be wise to add a veteran who can help here, too. Otherwise the room will be lacking. It should help, too, that McLaurin played at Ohio State with new quarterback Dwayne Haskins. But the Redskins drafted McLaurin because he can play; that rapport with Haskins is a side benefit. 11. They will flood Stubhub again with $8 tickets, and then crow about fan excitement is back The sad thing is and I'd never thought I'd say this is the winning the off season is the old school good old days of Dan's reign in relative terms. They actually won more games under Vinny. As Sheehan likes to say if they are going to stink at least be fun at it like the old days. These days you got all the dysfunction of old and you also got Bruce's stamp on the team (some hyperbole to make a point) which is a yawn-boredom-no stars-no frills team. And somehow the FO according to some who cover the team are mystified about the fan discontent?
