Those are absurd numbers. No way he gets out of first now.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2024-nfl-combine-results-measurements-qb-winners-losers-as-jayden-daniels-skips-j-j-mccarthy-adds-weight/ Caleb measured well at over 6’1 and with long arms (32), 9 3/4 inch hands at 214. Maye at 6’4 and 3/8, 223, 9 1/8 hands (small but not as small as Burrow or Pickett) 32 1/4 arms.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but the 3 cone is a great predictor for performance (lateral agility for route running and YAC) and Sinott had a 6.82 which is absurd at 250.

And it wasn’t on the highway it was in a residential area. Could have easily killed someone. **** him. -
Yeah, it’s what I would do if I was in his position. I would gain tons of weight to try and get to 210 (215 if possible, but I doubt it). Then, I would either claim sore hammy or say “take a look at the tape for my speed.” What does it matter what he runs? He’s not a 4.3 guy to my eyes so if he runs a 4.4 or a 4.5. He’s fast as hell, no one is debating that.
-
Yeah it’s a bit of a let down. I understand not throwing. I even understand not running or doing drills. But not weighing in is annoying as hell. His justification was complete malarkey, and there is no way you can take it as anything other than he isn’t at the weight he wants to be at (we don’t know if that’s 200, 205, 210,etc.) QB weight is a big deal, especially if you want him to run as part of the offense. If he was a pure pocket passer, maybe we could overlook it more. Kyler Murray and Howell were short but at least were thickly built. Kyler was 5’10 205. Howell was 6’0 or 6’1 210.Cousins, who isn’t a big guy, was 6’3 214 and he’s a pure pocket guy. Lamar was 6’2 216.

Yeah, if he is sub 205 he would be one of the lightest QBs in the league. And if we would want him to run that’s a recipe for disaster injury wise. We also don’t know how tall he is. He doesn’t look short but he could be closer to 6’3. And I’m also not confident any numbers from LSU pro day should be taken as gospel. They have every incentive in the world to have him weight more. If I was a team thinking of drafting him at 2, I’m bringing my own scale lol.

Not sure if this was discussed- did you all see that Caleb was not providing his medical records to all teams, only certain teams? In his circumstances, I support that. Why should Green Bay get to see his personal medical history? Provide it to the top teams that may draft him only. Also, it would be a pretty clever way to try and pull and Eli if he were to refuse to provide Chicago his medical history and only provide it to the teams he wanted to go to. Caleb has made 10 mil in NIL money, so he can definitely afford to drop a few slots if he wanted to. I could see him wanting to play in DC or NY. This could all be moot, and publicly he’s saying he will play in Chicago.

You know where we can find a list of players who have met with the team? Used to be on Walter Football but I can’t find it.

Logan Paulson brought up an interesting point about Bowers. He was really interested in how much he weighed and how he looked as a blocker. The thought process was he liked him as a pass catcher but was concerned he couldn’t necessarily hold up in line in the NFL and then his value would be decreased slightly because he wouldn’t truly be multi dimensional like Kittle. Still liked him a lot as a first rounder but positional value and the fact that he may not be really large enough could drop him a bit. Edit- he’s 6’3, 243. If he doesn’t run or jump at the combine, assume he put on weight for weigh in and is actually under 240. I bet he slides towards middle to late first.

No thank you

No offense taken. I think having a high quality backup QB (sort of a “dirty starter” type like Foles) can be critical as the team gets better. It’s actually tough to find a good backup QB where you can win a few games and remain competitive if your starter gets nicked up. This can be seen in the backup QB market with pretty significant salaries for guys who are decent but not great. Believe me, I’m not some Howell truther but he showed enough for me to not give him away for nothing with two years of control. And I won’t complain one bit if the new staff disagrees. I think a third rounder would do if for me, because Howell still has starter potential for another team, but is pretty unlikely to play a truly significant role now that we can draft a blue chip guy at #2.

Having the second pick in a QB class like this is really exciting. While I prefer Maye’s upside and tools, I won’t be upset if the FO likes Daniels and has a plan for him. And his maturity, growth and running ability makes it pretty unlikely he busts (barring injury, which is my main fear). Both seem to check all the boxes on work ethic and character. I see Big Ben and Josh Allen as high end comps for Maye. Which is phenomenal, but there is definitely boom/bust there. Low end could be a guy like Blake Bortles. The arm and improvisation and execution in bad circumstances intrigue more. I think Daniels low comp would be Tyrod Taylor/Geno and his high end would be Hurts- maybe Lamar Jackson/Deshaun Watson, but I think that’s generous. He’s careful/ cautious with the ball (good and bad) and I could see the FO wanting more consistency and less turnovers even if the high end isn’t as spectacular (minus the running ability, which is sort of a double edged sword you don’t really want to overuse). I’m also really interested in what he weighs and what he runs (I want him to be at least 6’3 210 and run or 215 if he doesn’t.) I don’t think he will be 6’4, probably 6’3 to 6’3 a half. I think Maye is going to be 6’4 and a half and probably 235-240. I want him to show he’s worked on his footwork and make the easy throw look easy in the drills. I think both players probably hit to some degree and get second contracts.

Pretty sure he meant as far as how Burrow was viewed in the draft as far as a sure thing vs potential project, not as an NFL comp. He’s written pretty extensively about Maye in the past. Maye looks a lot like Josh Allen to me as a high level comp and Jordan Love on the low end. Intangibles and work ethic, high end tools, production at young age, processing and playmaking, all make me pretty bullish on Maye. But any QB can fail, and if he does we take our shot again in a few years.
