  1. Yep. We are in dire need of elite, blue chip talent. If Newton has a much higher chance of being a blue chipper than any "need" position, you take him. Use FA to fill needs(which we did a great job of for the most part. OT market was just dry and you can only fix so many problems in one off season).
  2. I think most teams scouts are more or less the same. It comes down to how they're utilized. Any scout who is highly regarded will get promoted and go up through the ranks anyway, and will either end up Peter Principling their way failing upwards to an executive role(see Vinny Cerrato) or is truly elite at their craft and end up a top notch GM(hopefully Adam Peters).
  3. Yep in total agreement and made a similar case with another poster earlier. But some people are stuck in their ways of DRAFT NEED NEED NEED because they can't see beyond mediocrity. The Snyder Era did a number on this fan base.
  4. I never expected anything from Bates. Mediocre athlete and just a blocking TE did nothing for me. The Turner hype was nauseating. Ohh la la so much athleticism but the dude never got open ever. I'd venture to argue that Rivera was the worst talent evaluator we ever had in the Snyder Era.
  5. Most advanced metrics had this OL as around mediocre but not as terrible as many here think. Bad scheme and a QB that has a propensity for taking a ton of sacks going back to college made them look worse than they are. Wylie is such an interesting case. His metrics suggest he's actually half decent. The problem is when he does get beat, he gets beat BAD. Its not like ok he got beat but can still put up a fight, when he loses a rep he often completely whiffs.
  6. All three can be released and I wouldn't bat an eye.
  7. I think the mom stuff was overblown. All she really did was buy tickets/help arrange travel plans for Jayden's teammates. Its not like she's some hysterical psycho helicopter mom or master criminal conspiracist. She probably didn't even have a clue she was violating NCAA rules and was just trying to help Jayden's teammates.
  8. Allen wouldn't make a very good 4-3 DE or Edge. He'd be an awesome 3-4 DE though, and I could see us running that front sometimes. Something like Allen/Payne/Newton DL(with Armstrong and Ferrell as rotational pieces). 4 LBs could be Wagner, Luvu, Fowler, and Davis. Maybe a situational or matchup thing.
  9. Mack Gore: staff ace? Didnt even realize it was a four game series but never in doubt 😀
  10. Fun season. Not gonna complain at all. We went from selling at the deadline to making the playoffs. We got some nice young players that we can build around and I believe if we want we got some cap space to play with as well.
  11. Rookie TEs typically don't produce right away. La Porta is an exception because he went to a team with an already developed QB and OL.
  12. I don't think its unreasonable to think that Peters may have loved Maye at the end of the season, but once he got to dive into Daniels(and I guess McCarthy) tape more he pivoted. Remember he emphasized how much he didn't really look at the QBs in that much detail when he was still with the 49ers.
  13. Daniels-Starting QB obviously. Hopefully 10+ year starter that can make All Pros and win an MVP or two. Newton-Currently rotational DT. Eventual starter replacing Allen probably. Well above average if not Pro Bowl caliber player. Will be our best defensive player by the end of his rookie deal. Sinnot-Current backup TE. Will be full time starter by mid season if not 2025 at the latest. Quality starter who makes a few Pro Bowls. Think Cooley 2.0. Sainristil-Will man Nickel/slot for the next decade and be the best at that position. Coleman-Currently developmental player. Hopefully eventual long term average at least starting LT. Could end up playing LG early too. McCaffery-Will end up being the #3 WR after camp and be a reliable weapon in the slot and gadget/trick plays. Rest are roster filler/ST guys.
  14. My hope is that that's why he played with so much reckless abandon, because he knew he had to score TDs on every drive. Hopefully he wont be in that same situation here and can play more carefully/play the long game more. Its a point Cooley made when reviewing him.
  15. Most people were reporting there was a big drop off after around 65 or so, so it was real good to juice our pick in the 70s to 53.
  16. I'd imagine Harris will happily spring for whatever state of the art VR system Daniels or anyone else needs.
  17. I honestly think its more bad writing/bad script than bad acting, but that's a different discussion for a different day.
  18. I wanna see how a healthy McLaurin bounces back. He was clearly playing hurt from the beginning of last year. He may not be elite but he's damn good and reliable. Dotson was in EB's doghouse from day one for whatever reason. We saw more passes schemed up for the likes of Cole Turner and Jamison Crowder than we did for Dotson. Admittedly he did have some really terrible drops too, but I think a new scheme is gonna do wonders for him. I mean even under garbage Scotty Turner he looked fantastic as a rook.
  19. So you'd take a lesser player over a better one because of short term need? I'll take a Pro Bowl caliber player at one position over an average player at another position. But hey, I wanna compete for Super Bowls, not try to win 8 games in 2024.
  20. Who is to say we didn't try to trade down? Maybe nobody offered enough value to justify giving up on such a talent? People always like to shout "WE SHOULD HAVE TRADED DOWN", but it takes two to tango. We also tried to trade up for a T, but couldn't make a good deal. You can't point a gun at anyone and force a trade. I don't believe in making trades just for the sake of making a trade. You want to maximize your assets. We ended up trading down from 40 using your exact logic and got great value. Its likely we wanted to do the same at 36 but didn't get the value we wanted to justify passing up on a highly regarded talent.
  21. Feels good to sweep the Fish. For whatever reason it always seems like we struggle down in Miami even when we had really strong teams.
  22. If we like Sainstril more than Dejean and felt like we could trade down and still get him, that's pretty damn good.
  23. No guarantee Daniels is the starter to open the season. That's why I think any nationally televised game outside of TNF will be later in the year so it can be flexed out in case Daniels isn't the starter(or ends up sucking).
  24. If you can't get excited about a #2 overall pick blue chip QB with some incredible traits, then...I don't know. Maybe go find another hobby. And this is coming from someone who was as anti JD5 as anyone. Embrace the future.
