I've been here awhile, even long before my official "join" date. I am a daily visitor and read way too many of the postings but rarely post as I often see my thoughts already expressed. I nearly lost my mind when the site vanished for a couple days. I was literally thinking "WTF am I gonna do?". Dr. Joe

BBC: China pneumonia outbreak: COVID-19 Global Pandemic
Aristarchus replied to China's topic in The Tailgate
The history of the Covid-19 outbreak contained in this thread is really interesting. i started reading from the first post forward recently (I've reached March2020) and it really shows the evolution of discourse surrounding the pandemic. It should almost be required reading and/or archived for future historians as to how "we" reacted and how the pandemic "messaging" evolved and changed over time. It really is a fascinating read. Some of it is encouraging while other parts are scary. -

Subatomic particles are just an illusion caused by 11 dimensional vibrations of spacetime and taking too much Hydroxycolquine after some Wild Turkey. -

The numbers are not the numbers. Historical records can, however, lead us to believe that we are missing more cases than we are finding. It is a hot mess rolling in a hodgepodge of political shenanigans. -

It is called "doubling down." Rather than slow the spread we will treat the sick with unproven medicine because OrangeMan says "what have you got to lose?" [However, I really hope it works but that is all it is "hope" it isn't a mistake]. -
BBC: China pneumonia outbreak: COVID-19 Global Pandemic
Aristarchus replied to China's topic in The Tailgate
This thread starts on Jan 5th with an article snippet discussing a few dozen cases in Wuhan. The derpy Orange Don was tweeting Jan. 22 about plan to contain it from US. By Jan 24th it had reached US. Reading the first few pages of this thread and the discussion of that time is really illuminating and scary. -

Well, just got news my University is effectively going online starting thursday and asking students to stay away from campus until April 4th. Gee, I hope I have everything ready to go to instantly take my physics courses and labs online. -

I'm a university professor interacting with 100s of people a day. I have underlying health issues. Unfortunately, I just expect to get Covid-19 coronavirus at some point regardless of preventive habits and caution. Crossing fingers that I win the % lottery. Sad but true. Dr. Joe -

If an individual in a "% demographic" finds themselves in the "% fatal" column of coronavirus that individual is still 100% dead. Stay alert and aware but do not add to any panic. Hold on as it could get messy. I think it will slow during the summer and next fall we will see the true impact. At that point we can argue numbers when there will be lots more data to parse. -
