Last year the Redskins home opener was 57,013 which was roughly 20,000 empty seats. And the Redskins had a 1-0 record

Two years ago, home opener attendance was announced as 78,658.

This Sunday, the Redskins have their home opener in a Week 2 Divisional matchup against the 1-0 Dallas Cowboys.

I don't know what to hope for.

I voted that FedEx will be filled with Dallas fans.  However, will that dilute the message that empty seats can send more loudly to the front office that the rudderless direction and spiteful actions you have conducted over the years have finally defeated the most loyal fan and they have embraced the apathy you have created.

Empty seats look bad for the league as a whole and maybe that will provide pressure from peers to push for change.

Here is my take:

1.  Dallas fans always show up well.  Whether they are from Dallas or not (more than likely not), they show up.

2.  Dallas is once again a media darling to do well, and week 1 while at home vs the Giants, they dominated.  This will give Dallas fans confidence in going.

3.  Redskins fans who have season tickets probably see this as a solid game to sell.  1 - buyers in Dallas fans, home opener, division game - probably best opportunity to get money back.

4.  State of the team - week 1 didn't do any favors, blew another lead.  A 'keeping the seat warm/competitive QB" at the helm, injury concerns again, same head coach people are upset with, etc.

I hope not. I feel like there is a lot more buzz (Haskins, monster defense, very storong running game) around this team going into the season then last season.

Yeah, but all of which were absent last week.  Tickets are still available for Dallas.  DALLAS!

It blows my mind.

The stadium was pretty much at capacity for the Cowboys last season, save for some empties in the upper deck, as there are probably aren't an unlimited amount of people who were going to want to pay $200 from the Redskins to sit up there, even for Dallas.

I said that after last season's overall attendance debacle, the Skins needed to lobby to have the Cowboys as the opening home opponent so as not to have another bad attendance story off the bat.

The composition of the crowd will be another story. It seemed close to 50/50 Cowboys fans the past few seasons, and I expect that will be the case on Sunday.

Attendance going forward past Dallas will be interesting. I'm sure there are plenty of Bears and Patriots fans in the DC area that will help with the overall crowd size for those games. Beyond that who knows. But I think firing Lafemina and apparently going back to the old ways of permitting brokers to dump tickets onto the secondary markets at lower prices will help. A few weeks before the season, I checked Sheehan's claim and verified that you could purchase a club seat for all 8 games on Stubhub for around $1100 total, including fees.

I would say that if we had beaten Philly, it might be a 70-30 Skins crowd. But after the second half beat down, I think a lot are just figuring same old and trying to sell off their tickets. But it's still early and it IS Dallas so it's hard to tell.

Probably be more of a 60-40 Dallas crowd is my take . Hope I'm wrong.

Also, the Nationals have a big series this weekend with the Braves, so some indirect competition there.  The Sunday afternoon game of that series a 1:35 start.

But you're right, many are skeptical, particularly after that second half meltdown vs. Philly.  I, too, am projecting roughly a 60-40 Dallas crowd, but would DEARLY love to be proven wrong.

EDIT 2

Now I've gotten 4020 three ties in a row

I’ve never been a fan of the “not even from Dallas”, etc criticism. I’m not from DC, and I can count on one hand the number of Skins games I’ve been to. Does that mean I’m not a fan? Or do those rules only apply to Dallas?
