BRAVEONTHEWARPATH93
NASCAR driver Tony Stewart hit and killed another driver who was walking on a track during a dirt-track race in upstate New York, authorities said early Sunday. Kevin Ward Jr. died from injuries suffered in the incident, which occurred Saturday night at the Empire Super Sprints series event at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park. -------------------------------------- So dude spins out, gets out of his car and tries to confront Stewart....who is still racing and gets clipped. I don't know my ass from elbow when it comes to racing but is that normal?? WTF would he get out of the car while cars are going 100+mph??? It's certainly tragic but was there much Tony could do to get past him at that speed? And yes there is a video of the incident but i'm not posting it. You can find it on Youtube. It's nuts
KuNiT21
Was waiting for someone else to post this. While I do agree that it was really dumb to get out of the car but this isn't out of the ordinary. People get out of the cars all the time so talk **** to whomever "took them out". We have a caution flags for a reason, cars go slow and stay at the bottom of the racetrack. I have no doubt given Tony Stewart's aggression and past history that this was intentional. Intentional as in I'm sure Tony didn't mean to run the guy completely over, but I'm sure did the I'm a hard ass spin the tires and pretend i'm going to hit you Tony Stewart aggression. This could have easily been avoided by staying in the car, but Tony doesn't help the situation. Shame.
Bubble Screen
Ward was upset with Stewart because he felt Stewart had wrecked him. Drivers confront other drivers like that all the time, in all levels of racing. Basically Ward took a big risk doing what he did and paid for out with his life. They weren't going 100+ though. It was under caution and it appeared the cars hadn't slowed much though.
BRAVEONTHEWARPATH93
Yeah, I clearly don't know much about racing. Just a messed up situation all around
Bubble Screen
Kunti: you have no idea if it was intentional or not (it wasn't). If you watch the video, notice the car just in front of Stewart had to swerve to miss Ward. It's likely Stewart either didn't see him at all, or didn't have enough time to react to avoid hitting him. At any rate, Ward took a big risk putting himself in that position, especially on a dirt track. Tragic all the way around.

This clearly shows the other driver was foolish. zoony
Just watched the video. Stewart gunned his engine and lost control in order to intimidate the guy calling him out. His vehicle fish tailed and he clipped the guy and drug him Looks like a homicide to me. Not sure why Tony Stewart is out of jail right now

Did you also watch the video that has audio as well where you could hear Tony gun it right before he approaches the dude? Probably not.
zoony
It also says a lot about Stewart that he is racing today at the Glen. Do you suppose he will celebrate if he wins? I wish people would watch the video before they have an opinion. My brain hurts

Ward took a risk by being where he was. He was basically in the racing groove of the track. Stewart should not, nor will not, be held liable. He could have avoided that kid if he really wanted to.

What I'm trying to say is, this could have been very easily avoided by Tony not being the hard ass that he always is.

You can't do what ward did fur obvious reasons I have a hard time blaming Stewart here.

Like I said, watch the car directly I'm front of Stewart. He appeared to swerve to miss Ward. Even under caution, it was apparent that all the cars hadn't slowed much at the point Ward was struck. Those cars slide around corners. They don't handle like nascar cars.This.Plus, the kid was right near the racing groove of the track. It was a poor decision by Ward.

grego
How did he not see him? Maybe he did. I'm only guessing. Point is, ward made a dangerous decision. You can't run towards a moving car that slides on a dirt track and expect the driver to know what's in your head and be able to adjust
Bubble Screen
How did he not see him?He may have seen him, but couldn't react in time to avoid hitting him. Those sprint cars are very swirly on dirt. You have less reaction time. They don't just stop on a dime. Plus ALL the cars hadn't yet slowed to regular speed they run under caution.
