The Official Washington Basketball Thread: Wizards, Mystics etc
MonkFan8 replied to BRAVEONAWARPATH's topic in The Tailgate
Nunn looks great in his first action, I see why they'd take a flyer on him. Honestly looks exactly like the type of player the team needs. -

Rui improving his value with a great performance tonight. Really though, I wish they'd have traded Rui a season ago. In my eyes he has always been a player where his perceived value is way higher than his actual or theoretical production. Besides a modest improvement in his 3 ball he really hasn't progressed at all since he was a rookie. If anything, his defense has regressed. Despite people thinking he's some mid-range king, his shot is still way too flat and he gets zero lift. People can complain he gets iced out of the offense, but I think if he were more aggressive or consistent he would get more looks. He is the typical Wizards player of the past 15 years, looks good when he has a hot shooting night, but those are few and far between. Hopefully his value is inflated across the league because people seem to still think they can fix him and turn him into Kawhi for whatever reason. -

Cavs blew it to end regulation, so only fair for the Wiz to completely forget how to play basketball in OT. Gross FT shooting and offensive sets. Need more from Kuzma in a game like this, granted Mobley is a really tough matchup for him. -
I've been perusing these forums for 16 years (wow, that makes me feel old...) and can easily say this is by far the most disinterested I've ever been. I'm sure I am far from the only one.

Year three under Rivera and we still have no identity
MonkFan8 replied to Warhead36's topic in The Stadium
I thought our identity was Carolina Panthers rejects? Certainly seems that way sometimes.... Ron would rather be comfortable with things he knows well than take risks to improve the team. I'd be fine with Ron as HC if he hired some coordinators that were in touch with today's game, but since he doesn't seem willing to do that he's got to go. -
Jackson joins the list in a long line of distinguished CB free agent tremendous bust. Good company.

It's insane to me that Rivera has stuck by such mediocre to bad and out of touch coordinators like JDR and Turner. I like Ron, but it's clear he values comfort and familiarity over actually producing a winning team. Either that or he doesn't know how. Regardless, this has the feeling of his final year leading the team and I'm fine with it. There are too many brilliant young minds (whether they would want to come here is a different story) out there to waste time with coaches stuck 10+ years in the past.

Hate to say it, but Davis is Troy Brown Jr. reincarnated. I do not understand why this FO puts such low emphasis on athleticism in their high draft picks. -

Kuzma is worth the price of admission, everyone else not so much. Kispert, Deni, Rui are all 2nd or 3rd guy off the bench / role player material at best. Other teams find gems in the middle of the 1st round, we find average at best players like Kispert and Troy Brown Jr. Also Ish Smith with the game tying 3 attempt? Trash. -

Absolutely no one in the building should be happy if we somehow win this game. Absolute embarrassment. -

Deni's defense really keyed this win. Very impressive. How many games have the Wiz been on the opposite end of a result like this? A good team sleepwalks through the first 3 quarters, then storms back to beat us. Happy to be on the other end of games like that (not anointing us yet, but trending in a nice direction). -

I respect his hustle and he generally contributes besides scoring, but his push shot is just not going to work in the NBA. Not a great attribute in a guy you draft solely to shoot the ball. -

What a great win. Just a well played game of basketball all around despite down games from Beal and Dinwiddie. It's so refreshing to see so much ball movement and off the ball movement. That combined with guys like Harrel crashing the boards is a recipe for a good season. -

Same, honestly never expected Deni to turn into a defensive specialist, but it's a welcome turn of events. Positively impacting the team's performance even if he's off offensively. I suspect much of this is Wes's doing. -

I was critical of Kuzma after the first couple games, but I've been really impressed with him lately. Plays within the offense, plays good defense, boxes out. His shot is really nice too. Need to get him some more looks. Fun game so far, Gafford was an absolute steal. -
Realizing that we had Kyle Shanahan, McVay, Kevin O'Connell, and Matt LaFluer, all great young offensive minds, and are instead stuck with Scott Turner's overwrought, overly complicated, redzone-failing offensive schemes makes me very sad.

It it was Ron who made the call to cut Hopkins with legitimately no decent option in the wings, it really calls into question his decision making (as if all the idiotic 4th down calls and plays doesn't do that well enough).

Horrible 3rd down call and an even worse call on 4th. Typical Turner offense. How many times have we been within 30 yards on the opponents endzone and come away with zero points the past few weeks? Awful. -

KCP makes up for it in the end. Wild game. Need to clean up all the mistakes in those two OTs, but liking what I'm seeing this year. Beal needs to trust his guys a bit more. He's got some solid options now. Too much hero ball, but also some clutch plays. -

Hello? Use a TO on the inbound? Baffling. -

Kuzma with one of the worst 4th quarters of basketball I've ever seen. Very low BBIQ. -

Turner's offense has an impressive amount of plays that are destined to go for -2 to -5 yards. Made the Chiefs defense look like world beaters today. -
One of the most pathetic halftime endings I've ever seen and that's saying something.
