Chamberlain Released

By Gary Fitzgerald

Redskins.com

The Redskins have signed free agent tight end Brian Kozlowski, the team announced on Tuesday. Kozlowski is an experienced veteran who is a talented blocker and a strong special teams performer.

The Redskins also announced they have signed wide receiver Gari Scott and released tight end Byron Chamberlain.

Kozlowski, 6-3 and 250 pounds, has played 10 seasons in the NFL as a tight end, H-back and special teams contributor. He spent his first three years in the league with the New York Giants and the last seven with the Atlanta Falcons, starting 28 games and appearing in 149.

Kozlowski has posted 78 catches for 917 yards and eight touchdowns during his career. He had his most productive season statistics-wise with the Falcons in 2001, when he recorded 15 catches for 270 yards and one touchdown.

Kozlowski joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Giants in 1993. He started 43 straight games during his collegiate career at the University of Connecticut, finishing his senior season with 43 catches for 526 yards and a touchdown.

Scott, 6-2 and 194 pounds, joins the Redskins after playing with the team as a tryout during the March 26-28 mini-camp. He played two seasons (2000-01) with the Philadelphia Eagles and posted two catches for 26 yards.

Scott did not play in 2002 and then spent training camp with the Green Bay Packers in 2003 before being released prior to the season. He entered the NFL as a fourth-round (99th overall) selection by the Eagles in the 2000 NFL Draft.

Our TEs suck and we have to atleast admit that. C'mon, Rasby can block and what else? Who in the world is Kozlowski anyways? We just let go of the only TE with any hands, and not only does K2 have great hands, he's a great blocker as well. We can't just throw to the WRs for our passing game, and maybe a little dump off to Portis isn't going to change that. With K2, the playaction would be just deadly. We can get people on the ground, over the middle, and go deep as well. How do you stop that?

Maybe you don't stop it. Maybe you outscore it. We need defensive help more than another offensive weapon!

This means NO winslow. Or at least a much reduced chance of him :applause:

He wants smart blocking TE's FIRST.

the TE in his scheme likely will catch 20, 25 balls a seaosn. That's it. enough to be a pass threat.

what he'll do is use McCants, Jacobs, Gardner and coles in three WR sets, with one reciever in the middle of the field tieing up the safety. With a TE mainly blocking.

Three WR routes with one TE/H back. Not two WR, TE and H-back ...

McCants will likely be running a lot of middle routes.

Between Royal, Rasby, Sellars and Kozlowski, the TE position is likely set. Or maybe Ware or someone undrafted beats out one of the others.

None of our TEs have any hands. The only reason Da Rock was used in short yardage situations was becuase he was the only one who could break an arm tackle. Of all the TEs and FBs we have, do you really want to rely on Sellers being the only one that can catch?

Its more then just another target, it's to complete the offense so we don't have to talk about anymore and we can put the rest of our resources into the defense. Finish the offense and forget about it. I know the defense isn't finish, and chances are we won't finish it in one year. That doesn't mean our defense is going to suck. I'm not a idiot. ;)

Can you say H-back?

I don't expect that you are an idiot. It's just that we don't have that many resources remaining ($$) and I think that defense has to become a priority at some point. I live in South Florida and am a huge UM fan. I love Jr., he is a beast, but I think that he is a luxury that we cannot afford.

Bingo.

Perhaps between coach Gibbs not being impressed with the slow Chamberlain at mini-camp, as reported on redskins.com, and the fear of a ridiculous hold out by Winslow if we drafted him, we're settling it now and turning the focus to bigger needs.

Rasby and Kozlowski will make the team - the camp competition will be between Sellars, Royal and Ware.

Finally someone else is seeing the light. Taylor is the pick or we trade down. Winslow would fill a void, but his impact at that position will not impact our current team as much a Taylor would. Taylor would give our Defense a totally different identity. Winslow is a playmaker, no doubt, but the offense already has a guy that changed its identity, his name is Clinton Portis.

Gibbs first offense?

That would be as a redskin in 81 right? His first stint as a HEAD coach? :D

winslow sr. was in a CORYELL offense. :silly:

And I'm going by his stint as a head coach. If he wanted a monster TE, then maybe he'd of gotten one in all those years as a redskin head coach.
