Lombardi's_kid_brother
I always read stories like this and wonder, "WTF how could you not be suspicious of something?!?!?" but then I remember that everyone of us is a complete super-sleuth badass in the fictional world where we place ourselves in another person's situation. Still, I'm imaging meeting up with my sketchy cousin who asks me to help him move two fairly heavy duffel bags (that smell really bad) into a fire pit. The only rational scenario for not questioning it would be that I was so creeped out by my cousin that I'd be afraid to ask for fear of what I'd find out and what he'd do to me. Still I like to think I'd find a way to fake an injury and GTFO. The human desire to not want to be involved in things is really amazing. It has to be a survival instinct left over from hunter/gatherer days. I was in a Target a few years ago (before I had kids) and a little girl wandered up to me, obviously scared because she had gotten separated from her mother. There was a brief moment of utter panic - like I want to fix this, but I also don't want to be walking around with this girl when her panicked mom shows up with store security. There was a lot of "You stand right there. Don't move. I'm going to get a worker to stand here with us.....No, stand right there...." I also sometimes have bad people skills. Anyway, if I reacted that way over a lost little girl in a store, I'm not sure what I would do when my drifter cousin showed up with two bags that may or may not be stained with human blood. I know everyone here is a superhero that always does the right thing, but sometimes my instincts get a little jumbled. I'm much better after careful reflection. Rocky21
They've also recovered possible bone fragments and remnants of burned items from that mountain. Dan do you have a link? I'd like to read up on this.
Gary Clark Fan
The thing is with the bone fragments the location of where they searched was near a cemetery. Regardless any evidence is worth closly examining. I am a little concerned as to them annoucing that Richard Welch is a POI....I understand they aren't able to make an arrest right now but I don't want him to go blow his head off before answering for what he has possibly done. I get they are staking him out but how is that to stop him from killing himself and going to the grave with the secret. Dan do you have a link? I'd like to read up on this. Dan T.
Perhaps most damning, Lloyd Welch has admitted to investigators that he left the shopping center with the girls that day. He told investigators that the next day he witnessed his uncle sexually assaulting one of the girls at the uncle's home. He claims he never saw the girls again. Dan do you have a link? I'd like to read up on this. The Washington Post ran a pretty detailed story this morning: http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/investigators-prepare-announcement-in-1975-missing-girls-case/2015/07/14/2ca2e68c-2a2f-11e5-a250-42bd812efc09_story.html I am a little concerned as to them annoucing that Richard Welch is a POI....I understand they aren't able to make an arrest right now but I don't want him to go blow his head off before answering for what he has possibly done. He has been indicted in Bedford County, Virginia on two counts of first degree murder. And they don't really have to stake him out. He's in a place where they can keep an eye on him - in a Delaware prison. He is serving a lengthy sentence after his conviction for showing a 10-year old girl pornographic movies in 1997 and then sexual abusing her for a week. That was after his conviction in South Carolina in 1994 for molesting a 10 year old girl there, for which he served 18 months.

Interesting that if it goes to trial it would represent the longest-known duration between someone’s disappearance and a “no-body” trial in U.S. history. Dan T.
wrong Lloyd is in jail. Richard is free and lives in PG Co. Ah yes. Correct. I missed that you were talking about the uncle. His uncle Richard is a POI and is currently free. WUSA reported that Richard Welch worked as a security guard at the Wheaton Plaza Shopping Center during the time of the murders. Dan T.
"Person of Interest" does not necessarily mean the same thing as suspect. Lloyd Lee Welch has been charged with two counts of first degree murder. His uncle, Richard Welch, remains as a person of interest in the case and is being actively investigated. Another press conference is scheduled for today and other charges are expected to be announced.
TheGoodBits
I've watched enough SVU to know that Richard probably had a hand in it and probably also abused Lloyd as a child. Where's Stabler when you need him? Benson?
