Hogs Haven: Richmond, VA the New Redskins Training Camp Spot?

Another side note about Church Hill. It is not nearly as bad as it's reputation makes it out to be and is considered a highly desirable place to live, on Broad St and south of Broad. It gets a little sketchier the further North you go. However, if you want a truly terrifiying experience on New Year's Eve, Church Hill should be your destination. There's some moronic tradition of people shooting guns in the air and shooting those green Electrical Transformer boxes in the area. Massive blackouts and erratic gunfire. Who doesn't like to ring in the New Year that way? Yeehaw!!!

No matter which site is selected, city leaders expect construction to begin in January. NFL training camps typically are held from late July until early August.

Neither Jones nor members of the committee would commit to a favorite location. Earlier this month, two sources with knowledge of the discussions told NBC 12 the Redskins showed "significant interest" in the Science Museum site, which is comprised of mostly undeveloped state-owned land behind the museum. City Stadium, on McCloy Street adjacent to the Downtown Expressway, is city-owned

Cant wait, the rendering looks great. I have a vision of bums in attendance harassing fans if its behind the Science Museum coming from the Boulevard and Broad.

Hah, so do I. Although I read in the paper today that part of the criteria for picking a spot was to be able to revitalize the area and bring in new development. So, maybe that would help with that.

The Washington Redskins and Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones announced Monday that a 17-acre site about two miles from downtown will be developed to host the football team’s summer training camp beginning in July of 2013.

Bon Secours Richmond Health System (BSRHS), the project’s main sponsor, and the city plan to build two full-size football fields, a field house and a large spectator area on the parcel of now-vacant land off West Leigh Street behind the Science Museum of Virginia, officials announced.
