RandyHolt
If it was you and Grossman on the roster, you would probably be stepping up into the starters role as well.
paloosa
Beck is doing everything that you want a starter to do but perform on the field. That is what is lacking with Beck and until he performs at a high level he will be just another QB. He was drafted by Miami and never became the starter their behind Pennington and Henne which were average at best. Pennington was at the end of his career and Henne is a journeyman at best. Then being in Baltimore behind Flacco who is still developing as a QB. So what has he learned? Is he ready to be a starter? His rating coming out of college wasn't high at all. Football's future had him rated at the 7th best QB in 2007 here is the link http://www.footballsfuture.com/2007/prospects/qb.html. So he wasn't rated high by the experts and because Shanny had him highly rated means that he was highly rated. We forget about the 1998 Draft where Ryan Leaf was rated as the best QB coming out ahead of Peyton Manning. Ryan Leaf was a bust aand Peyton Manning's career speaks for itself. If you look at the daft after that you will see QB's drafted in the first round or Tim Couch, Cade McNown and Akili Smith in 1999 all busts. Chad Pennington 2000 had a decent career. Michael Vick a career that had a lot of ups and downs with a stint in prison before reviving his career. Drew Brees was drafted in the 2nd round that same year. David Carr and Joey Harrington in 2002 both were busts. Byron Leftwich, Kyle Boller and Rex Grossman in 2003 all having decent careers but less than stellar. Grossman still trying to catch on with the Redskins. JP Losman in 2004. Alex Smith and Jason Campbell in 2005. Matt Leinart in 2006. JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn drafted ahead of Beck in 2007. Russell a big bust and both Quinn and Beck still trying to find their place. Then Chad Henne in 2008 which put him ahead of Beck in 2008 when Flacco and Ryan were also drafted. So is John Beck the best out of his class when he was ranked 7th that year? Usually when you are ranked that low it is you are average at best. THEREALTOR1
Bump... Seems to be alot of new members bringing up some of the same old points/counterpoints that have already been discussed, but perhaps before their time on the board. Figured i'd bump a few old Beck threads to provide some old insight to some of the new members. Great video interview from NFLN on the first page of this thread if anyone's curious as to insight into Beck's personality. Hail!
