Bump for a new season.  1-1 so far.  Bad shooting night against Oregon brought a loss.  Good shooting night against Wright St brought a win.

Early, but Josh Smith looks like a threat in the post and a liability on the defensive end.  Lubick and Hopkins will have to pick up the slack for him in that regard.

Northeastern- that's a bad loss by the Hoyas.  Not a good start to the season.  Those weak losses hurt your resume come March.

Hoyas typically have great regular seasons, and weak postseasons.  Maybe it will be the other way around this year?  Or maybe the team is weak?  Shot really badly today, someone other than Smith-Rivera and Starks needs to make a shot.

Well, the Hoyas had an interesting trip to Puerto Rico.

A bad, very bad and embarrassing loss to Northeastern.  That loss made the Hoyas look like they were already in March form.

But to the Hoyas credit, they bounced back, ran K State off the floor and then beat Shaka Smart's VCU boys today.

Great job at the line by the Hoyas.

2014 power forward Trey Mourning to attend Georgetown

For a young player following in the footsteps of a famous parent can be difficult, especially when the first impulse of many is to immediately make the comparison of father and son.

However as his high school career played out, 2014 forward/center Trey Mourning played well enough to establish himself as one of the better front court prospects in south Florida.

The 6-foot-9 Mourning attended Ransom Everglades School, receiving late interest from schools such as Georgetown, Florida and Duke. And on Thursday the younger Mourning announced that he’ll attend his father’s alma mater and join John Thompson III’s program.

Georgetown nabs four-star 2015 forward Noah Dickerson

Georgetown picked up a very nice commitment on Saturday morning as four-star forward Noah Dickerson announced on twitter that he committed to the Hoyas and head coach John Thompson III.

A 6-foot-8 native of Atlanta, Georgia, Dickerson is currently regarded as the No. 53 player in Rivals.com‘s 2015 national rankings and gives Georgetown another talented post player to work with. Dickerson played this past season at Montverde Academy in Florida and helped lead the school to the Dick’s national title in April.

Dickerson also ran on the Nike EYBL with the Georgia Stars last year as he played up on the 17U level.

Dickerson joins fellow four-star forward and Virginia native Marcus Derrickson as 2015 prospects that are currently committed to play for the Hoyas.

Both Dickerson and Derrickson are forwards but while Derrickson can face up and shoot out to the perimeter, Dickerson has more post moves and is more of a threat with his back to the basket.

The Hoyas are KILLING IT on the recruiting trail!

Reports: Top 75 big man Jessie Govan commits to Georgetown

Georgetown has landed their third front court recruit in the Class of 2015 as Jessie Govan has committed to be a Hoya, according to multiple media reports.

He ranks No. 60 in the class of 2015, according to Rivals.com.

Govan is a highly-talented post player, the kind of true center that knows how to score with his back to the basket. He can be a bit soft at times and needs to develop a bit of nastiness around the rim that will allow him to use his 6-foot-10, 260-pound frame to bully defenders, but the physical tools are there for the native New Yorker to be a very good piece in Georgetown’s system.

Govan joins Marcus Derrickson and Noah Dickerson, who committed over the weekend, as Georgetown’s 2015 recruiting class. All three are ranked in the top 75 by Rivals and they should provide the Hoyas with the kind of front court weapons that they’ve been missing the past two seasons.

Georgetown has really struggled with frontcourt scoring recently. Noah Dickerson and Jessie Govan should definitely change that

Hoyas' future frontline is going to be ridiculous - Copeland, Govan, Derrickson, Dickerson, & White in '14 & '15

Marcus Derrickson (2015 6’8″ 250 lbs. Brewster Academy):

Derrickson is a below the rim big that plays the game using size and strength inside. He can also spot up and knock down open threes to stretch the defense. He has good shooting touch from mid and long range. Marcus can also face up and drive the ball in to the lane. When he’s aggressive, he can be overpowering inside and be someone who likes to bang in paint. While what we saw of his post game didn’t always impress, he has solid feet in the post and with improved touch can be a very capable low post scorer in college. Derrickson’s best attribute, from what we saw, was his ability to rebound on the defensive end. He carves out space well and is able to secure the rebound. Overall, Georgetown has a skilled big who can be quite versatile offensively

Vs. Kansas

This team goes with Smith-Rivera.  He was horrible tonight, might have shot the worst I've ever seen him shoot.  When he's missing, it's hard for Georgetown to beat top caliber teams.  He was 3-15, and we still only lost by 5.

I love Trawick's tenacity, but he plays out of control and gives it up too much.  He had at least 4 turnovers that I can think of.  Team has to sink those free throws too.  I love Smith's presence down low but occasionally he dribbles too much which leads to turnovers.  Gotta know when to kick it back out.

On a positive note, L.J. Peak is a ninja.  I think I like Georgetown's freshmen more than Maryland's.  Not by a huge margin, but White and Copeland have great size and moves.  And Peak has potential to be a star.
