The Eagles are killing me...

Ugh... I rooted my guts out for the Bears today, but the Eagles wiped them up like pansies. There was really never a doubt who the better team was - or what the outcome would be - and I hated every second of it. This week is just gonna suck.

I unfortunately really beleive that the Eagles can beat any team out there now, including the Rams. I hope they go down, but I have this funny little feeling...

[ January 19, 2002: Message edited by: MikeB ]

Well, the clock just struck midnight for the Bears. Gimmick plays and lucky bounces may be enough win you games in the regular season, but not in the playoffs. Too bad the #2 seed was wasted on those guys.

The Eagles are the fourth best team in the NFC, but they got the luckiest draw in the playoffs. Tampa and then Chicago, while the far superior Green Bay and San Francisco teams play eachother and then the Rams. Heck if the Packers pull it out against the Rams, and they very well could, the Eagles will host the NFC title game. What a joke.

Still, they sure did turn it up a notch in the playoffs. Gotta give them that much. And anyone who still says McNabb is overrated is kidding themselves. The guy's the real deal.

I can't imagine the Eagles actually beating the Packers or the Rams, but you never know. The Giants pulled it off last year ...

I was watching the game with a friend who is from Chicago and I think I was pulling just as hard for the Eagles to Lose as he was for the Bears to win.

I don't see the Eagles beating the Rams next week on the turf @ the TW Dome but if they have to play Green Bay @ the Vet it could be interesting but remember the Eagles are better on the road then at home.

The Eagles season will come to an end next week whoever they play. The Pack and the Rams are both better teams than the Eagles. I was very disappointed in Urlacher today. If he is so great why couldn't he spy McNabb like LaVar did and shut him down? The answer: Arrington is twice the linebacker that Urlacher is.

not sure about that jonjeff...

Arrington only shut McNabb down in the first matchup this year. At that point in the season McNabb was trying to be a pocket passer. He realized his strengh was his ability to make plays by scrambling, and has since done so with more frequency, and with excellent results. In the second matchup he cleary was able to break free for some key 3rd down conversions, unlike that first game.

Lavar may be better, but no one can single handedly keep McNabb from scrambling, unfortunately.

News flash. The Eagles are the second best team in the NFC. Have been all year. They'll give Warner and Co. fits because their defensive style is suited to upsetting what the Rams want to do.

BTW, the Rams will take the Packers-- who've given up gobs of rushing yards, and have a slow and depleted secondary-- to the woodshed for an ole fashioned butt stompin today. I say they hang at least 40 on the Pack.

The Eagles blitzing schemes can disrupt Warner's timing, and get him looking for the next hit, and their corners can man up on the Rams two outside guys. Hell, they should have beaten em in the first game of the year.

I do believe the Rams will win, but if the line is some absurd double digit number, take the Birds to make $. I've cashed two straight weeks on em. Also, take the Rams and the over today.

The Iggs are a pretty solid #4. Good, but not in the same class as the Rams or Pack, and overall a bit behind the 49rs.

I give them a lot of credit for getting it together to make some serious noise in the playoffs. The win against TB was solid football.

But they've also been extremely lucky in the draw, having to beat only one elite team to get to the SB. And they stuck it to Chicago, but the Bears were mostly smoke and mirrrs this year despite a great record. Heck, they needed a fake field goal to beat the Skins.

And it didn't hurt the Eagles cause to knock out the opposing quarterback on a smart and legal but hardly sportin' play.

The Eagles might be playing as the 2nd best team in the conference RIGHT NOW, but they most certainly have NOT been the 2nd best team all season. They lost to the Cardinals. They lost to a sub .500 Redskins team in a big game at home. They BARELY beat a struggling Giant team twice.

Name for me all the good football teams that the Eagles beat before the playoffs began. Give me the list.

There is no denying that they have stepped it up a notch in the playoffs and are playing quite well now. But during the season they were behind the Rams, Packers, Bears and 49ers in my not-so-humble-opinion. I hope they revert to their usual ways soon because the thought of them in the Super Bowl nauseates me.

we have an edge on the iggles. yea, their blitzing scheme is difficult. but we have the right combination of strength and quickness up front (offensive line) to deal with these characters. the first game wasn't a fluke. another year together (given some backward movement until spevis' system takes hold) and we can deal with these guys - we match up well with their D). the defense is going to have to step it up a notch to contain mcnabb - but we have done this successfully and we have the cbs to make it work. a little more pressure from the de's and we're there. will be interesting!

Al -

We presently matchup well with the Eagles ONLY because the Eagles lack a credible running game.

Look out of the Eagles ever found a runningback. If the Eagles truly want McNabb to take it up another level... he's going to need someone who defenses are going to have to respect and take some pressure off.

They're a Stephen Davis away from being a very strong football team for the next 4-5 years. And they have the money to do so.

But fate is on our corner. Seems the Eagles have as much difficulty finding a RB we do for QBs.

MikeB -

I feel your pain. Truthfully, I like the Eagles. I think they're an exciting young team with a passion for football. They always seem to have the intensity... and yet they look like they're loose and having fun playing. And they play an aggressive style of football. And Reid always throws in a few wrinkles (ie. gimmick plays) to make things interesting.

What's not to like?

The fans.

I found myself rooting for the Bears in a big way myself. I think my dislike for the Eagles clouded my objectivity. They are a fine football team, and have obviously earned the right to be where they are now. Heading to the NFC Championship. I still think that the Rams or the Packers will win against them, but it won't be without a fight.
I also still think that the Skins, with help from a decent QB could beat them. Did once this past season and could have come close the second game. Levar still did a marvelous job of spying on Mcnabb, who only ran for one 1st down.(watched the game last night. I have no life). D. M. did play better though. AS for the Redskins matching up with the Eagles only because of a lack of a credible running game, I submit that the Eagles matchup well against the Redskins due to the lack of a credible passing game by the Skins. That was really brought to light in the second game. Yes I know, but 3-4 of those dropped passes happened on the same drive. IMHO
