McD5
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_illinois_democratic_nightmare CHICAGO – The Democratic nominee for Illinois' lieutenant governor dropped out of the race Sunday night, less than a week after winning the nomination, amid a political uproar about his past. Since Cohen won the Democratic nomination on Tuesday, it has become widely known that he was accused of abusing his ex-wife and holding a knife to the throat of an ex-girlfriend — a woman who was herself charged with prostitution. He also admits using steroids in the past. "For the good of the people of the state of Illinois and the Democratic Party, I will resign," Cohen said in a rambling remarks made as the Super Bowl halftime entertainment blared in the background. read link for more. Seriously, where do they find these bozos? And no background checks at all?
Zguy28
I'm wondering how anyone who has that kind of past could even think about running in today's culture? They have to know it will be dug up.

TimmySmith
Now they can nominate whomever they please, perhaps they can contact Blago to see what the going rate is for a LT Gov.
Predicto
It's the Chicago way. It's the whole damn state of Illinois way. That place is crazy. The last three governors have failed to finish their terms due to scandal, from both parties. It's amazing, really.

Predicto
And these Chicago/Illinois people are running the country? Actually, in addition to the Machine, there has always been a smaller "idealistic clean government/reform" group in Chicago, usually based in Hyde Park. This is the branch where Obama came from. They always try to clean up Chicago politics, and they always get stomped back down by the Machine when push comes to shove. Remember Senator Paul Simon, with the bowtie? He was a straight arrow, and was from the same anti-Machine roots.

Don't forget North and South Dakota, Ohio, West Virginia, Mississippi, Florida, Utah, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Kentucky - all of them have corruption problems too. It's safe to say that this is one area of American politics that is truly bipartisan.

It's safe to say that this is one area of American politics that is truly bipartisan. Actually, I maintain that the one issue where both Parties most unanimously agree is . . . . Not allowing any other Parties to have any relevance whatsoever.
