Tom [Giants fan]
Bears | Staley To Bears? - from www.KFFL.com Fri, 8 Aug 2003 12:13:02 -0700 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports if Philadelphia Eagles RB Duce Staley cannot make up with Eagles head coach Andy Reid and report to training camp, he could go on the trading block, and the Chicago Bears might have interest. However, the team first wants to see how its top two backs – Bears RBs Anthony Thomas and Adrian Peterson - fare in the pre-season.
Thinking Skins
Its funny that they'd be more willing to pay all kinds of money to Staley who we know isn't a top tier back in this league, but haven't said anything about Watson/Betts/Candidate who could all be superstars in this league and have shined well when the spotlight was given to them. We should be talking to Chicago right now about a possible trade for one of their DT's.

Awesome
I love it. Here's to the Eagles blowing up in 2003, blowing up in a bad way
bulldog
The core of players the Eagles have ridden since 2000 is breaking up. Trotter was the first guy to leave. Then you had Mitchell and Douglas. Staley may be next, although he is not as valuable as the others to Philly. you could see Troy Vincent and Jon Runyan go next offseason due to age and contract. The Eagles really needed to get to that Super Bowl in 2002 when they got homefield. The failure to take advantage of that opportunity looms large for them. Dr. D
I think Dueche is better than most of our RB's anyway.
Burgold
maybe, but he will be far more expensive than either Betts or Watson contractwise.
Tom [Giants fan]
McNabb is going to be running around the Eagles backfield in a year or two looking for all of the players he used to have and wonder why in the he11 he signed on for so long. jbooma
Eagles can kiss their season goodbye without Duce. The other backs are OK but not 20 to 25 a game material. Duce could give you that.
Tom [Giants fan]
I think Buckhalter is capable of carrying the load IF he stays healthy. That is a big IF though.

Tom [Giants fan]
I didn't forget about him because I took him in the late round of a fantasy draft I did hoping Staley would stay out the year.
carlsbadd
This will only hurt the Eagles. I think that Duce is a good back and not living up to his contract will only hurt him in the long run. Of course the iggles fans will say he's over rated and has a bad knee
freakofthesouth
Duce definitely gives the Eagles a lot, and I hope that Chicago gets him out of our hair! He has hurt us since he started playing with the Eagles, and if he leaves, it will be a good omen.

MikeB
A lot of you guys don't understand how important he is to the Eagles. Is Duece a top 5 back? No. A top 10? Maybe. But he is to the Eagles what we all hope Candidate will be to the Skins. A guy who FITS their system. Not only does he fit. He fit's like a glove. He is a great pass catcher. He provides a relief valve for McNabb. He is a solid blocker. He is a bulldozer too. He works hard for the extra yard each and every carry. He is good in 4th quarters because he can wear a team's D down by pounding in the middle. He does so much for the Eagles. He just isn't fast or fancy. This guy will be difficult to replace. So far the Eagles have gotten away with this philosophy (i.e. Trotter.) It's going to catch up with them hard some day. Maybe real soon.
Oldskool
Its gonna take all 3 of those backs playing for them for the eagles to be sucessful this year. Neither Buckhalter, Westbrook or Staley are capable of carrying the load for that team by themselves. BTW: Ourlads doesnt even have Duce listed on the roster http://www.ourlads.com/secure/depthchart.cfm?index1=PHI
EagleSteve
Not a problem at all. He's overrated and has a bad knee anyway. Not having him for the year will hurt. He does provide a safety valve. However, he is so slow to the hole, that even with a good O-line, they close before he gets there. He usually has to carry the pile. Buckhalter and Westbrook will provide a lot more speed at the position. Duce would be perfect in the 1-2-3 punch at RB the Eagles can throw at a defense. That's what hurts. Reid's entire offensive scheme is based on matchups he creates with different personnel groups to keep the defense guessing. Not having Duce will reduce the matchup possibilities. Still, stranger things have happened and he may be back in camp sooner rather than later. At the very least, if he's traded, the Eagles will get something for him. Expect them to be watching the wires for RBs who get cut in the upcoming weeks. They can't go into the season with only four backs, especially if one of them is returning kicks. Bulldog is correct - they should have taken advantage of home field last year. In this sense, I do agree with Lurie: As long as McNabb continues to develop and gets out of the habit of throwing balls into the turf at receivers' feet, the Eagles "window" won't completely close. If he's a true franchise QB like Elway, Manning, Aikman, etc. they will only need to rebuild for a year or two before being right back in the big picture. Last year they should have done it, this year they have to, or they will have to re-tool. At least they are not the trendy Super Bowl pick this year. No one who "knows" anything thinks they can succeed. Perfect situation. Hope they get beaten in the preseason as well so they're off everyone's radar. Then they can sucker punch the Bucs on Monday Night Football.
