skinsfan07
very interesting stuff. I'd love Zimmer here. IDk about Haslett though. How were his defenses when he coached the Saints?

mcarey032
You mean Jim HAS-Let? The one who works all those hours during the day and night and gets 7-9 and 8-8 record. I wonder what the Ole Ball Coach will say about this hiring?
flock53
Hasslet didnt run a 3-4 in NO when he was there. We dont have the LBs to do that, and that would make AH a undersized NT or a BIG DE. I would be VERY surprised to switch.
mcarey032
Yeah I know about the 3-4. I am not really a fan of it. I guess it is because of how are opponents generally run the ball. Although it seems more that teams like the Giants, Cowboys, and Eagles throw a hell of a lot more than they did in years past. I agree that we don't have the personnel to run it, but I guess we have to give Shanahan a chance and see if this works.

Skin'emAlive
very interesting stuff. I'd love Zimmer here. IDk about Haslett though. How were his defenses when he coached the Saints? His defenses were usually suspect. Id rather not have him. The saints defense hasnt been decent until this year with GW. And even then, its not that great. Genghis Khan
did anyone here mention Jim Hasletts name recently? No but he is a head coach of one of those UFL teams. I wonder how that teams defense performed.
flock53
Zimmer is just a pawn, that defense is Marvins. They do get alot of TOs year after year, up at the top.
CommDownMan
Are we gonna hear 3-4 talk all offseason. ****, I'm already tired of it.

Mr. S
Zimmer is just a pawn, that defense is Marvins. They do get alot of TOs year after year, up at the top. I would believe that, but Cincy defenses under Marvin have been in decline until this season. I'm not sure how long Zimmer has been there, but I think his presence definitely improved those defenses. Skins4SB
Why are the obsessing over the 3-4? That's one of my worries. I don't want to see it done here.
jtyler42
This is JLC now, lets take that into consideration. Kelly Johnson on Comcast Sportsnet reported this before JLC, he probably got it from her...I think Hasslett would be a good DC for us if we can't get Zimmer b/c he coaches an agressive, attacking style of D... As far as us running the 3-4 goes...I just don't think it would be as great a transition as some make it out to be it really just depends on what type of 3-4 we run...a "1 gap" attacking 3-4 like Dallas which I think we could pull off, or the classic "2 gap" 3-4 a la the Patriots which would be a lot harder to transition to as you need bigger bodies throughout the front 7 to make this itteration work...the Broncos and Packers went from the 4-3 to the 3-4 this season and they did pretty well in their transition yr... I think they were steady, throw out last year when the lost Palmer and didnt have a run game untill Benson late in the year and the DEF was out on the field all the time.....Man I just had Deja Vue, sounds like us LAST 2 years under Zorn. Ain't happening.

MattysRiff
Zimmer is just a pawn, that defense is Marvins. They do get alot of TOs year after year, up at the top. Are you kidding?? Zimmer was hired because the Bengals defense was awful at best, he took over the defense including playcalling, and has totally turned it around.... and probably saved Marvin Lewis job. I doubt it, they always had alot of TOs w/ D.O'Neal and others, tops in INTs. Give me end rankings and I'll concede.
