Mike Shanahan is expected to be named head coach of the Redskins, according to sources in the organization, and, barring unforeseen glitches, will likely be introduced in a news conference Tuesday.

That timeline makes sense, they said, because new General Manager Bruce Allen last week told people in the organization that the unsettled situation surrounding the Redskins' top coaching position likely would be completely resolved by Tuesday.

Shanahan arrived this afternoon, his flight from Colorado landing at Dulles at around 3 p.m., about 12 hours after Jim Zorn's two-year tenure ended.

As we previously reported, Allen instructed assistant coaches to begin completing their season-ending evaluations of players. Allen will provide Shanahan with the forms, the sources said, in an effort to help Shanahan get up to speed on the roster as soon as possible.

Several of Zorn's assistants are under contract for the 2010 season, but the staff will undergo sweeping change, according to a league source familiar with Shanahan's plans. What remains unclear is whether Shanahan will have the dual title of team president and coach, as Joe Gibbs did in his second stint with the Redskins under owner Daniel Snyder.

Regardless of titles, though, Shanahan is expected to have significant input in player-personnel decisions. Allen is an adept football administrator and a salary-cap expert, league sources said, but he is not considered as strong in evaluating talent.

The Washington Post reports that the Redskins will name Mike Shanahan their next head coach on Tuesday, "barring unforeseen glitches."

Shanahan arrived at club headquarters at 3ET Monday. The rest of the Skins' coaching staff will reportedly undergo a "sweeping change," with Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer the apparent favorite to take over the same position in D.C. Shanahan's son, Kyle, will coordinate the offense. NFL Network's Mike Lombardi also reported Monday that Mike Shanahan will be named team president, giving him significant influence over all personnel.

...Or he could not be. Good way to cover your ass.

In any case, good for those season ticket sales.

I agree with you 100%! They will give the appearance that there has been a change in philosophy of the FO. We will really see when it comes to having a draft and free agent class. There will be a lot of fans reluctant to sign up for another year of tickets if this is just a repackaged version of Snyderrato.

Cant wait to have Shanny here officially. Im probably more excited that Kyle will be our OC. He is a fantastic offensive mind. Im really hoping he sticks around as his fathers successor and becomes our HC for many many years after his dad is done. He is an OC and only 30.
