Bizkiteer
Anyone else notice that they barely used RAK @ DE during the Giants game? They made this guy get ultra involved during the preseason putting him all over the place, but seemed to only use him as a SLB during an actual game. We sure did have a lot of 3rd and long situations, but I saw more of Daniels and even Jarmon than RAK playing DE. Why? Better yet, why hasn't any of the local media mentioned it either? rd421
I don't reallty like him at lb I would love to see him do what he does best and just get at the passer
Probos
He was drafted as a DE -- but sometime after that the Skins realized they don't have anyone to play SLB. So, they plug Orakpo in there. His obvious strength is as a pass rusher -- he may develop into a good LB one day, but it will take some time. He won't have as big an impact this year as he will in years to come.
Bizkiteer
I don't reallty like him at lb I would love to see him do what he does best and just get at the passer I think he'll be fine at LB, but their original plan was to move him to DE on 3rd downs and when they go to nickle or dime packages. That didn't appear to happen at all or not very much.

21forlyfe
Anyone who knows the game of football seen this coming...I was one.....He LOOKS LIKE A DE TRYING TO PLAY SAM.....if you ever seen DWare be force to play LB in the3-4 he looks the same way...Like a DE trying to be a LB.SMh i use to love it how CP would blow right by him on running plays..or How Cooley burns him in Redzone coverage...though because we play the damn rams, Rak will have a good game..and then these game to game fans will play devils advocate and try to convince the smart football fans on here that Rak is playing in the best position for him...LMFAO
darrelgreenie
They made this guy get ultra involved during the preseason putting him all over the place, but seemed to only use him as a SLB during an actual game. I like a sucker expected Orakpo to spend most of his time blitzing from the SAM spot. But he spent most of his time taking on blocks in the run game and covering the TE in the passing game. Blache and KO aren't using Orakpo the way the way they planned and i feel like a rube for believe they would: The http//sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=was"]Washington Redskins have a completely different plan for first-round choice http//sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=12439"]Brian Orakpothan some people expected. At the Redskins' minicamp, Orakpo was used as the starting strongside linebacker. The plan is for him to blitz from the strong side on first and second downs. On passing downs, he will line up at right defensive end next to http//sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=3543"]Albert Haynesworth, the former http//sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=ten"]Tennessee Titans star who appeared dominating at his first Redskins camp. Orakpo was drafted to rush the passer. The surprise is that he won't just be doing it from a defensive end position. http//sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=4135310"]http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=4135310 I'm gonna re-watch the game and count the number of times Orakpo blitzed or rushed. It would be incredibly stupid to have the best pass rusher in the draft and use him to take on blocks and cover TEs all game.

UM HMMM Funny you mention that because I think Blache did as horrible job calling defensive plays as Zorn did offensive plays in the NYG game. So, somebody should be talking to him about his performance. Too many 3rd and longs converted and that wasn't just because of a missed tackle, it was the defensive play calling. Bizkiteer
Look! I found this completely identical thread!http://www.extremeskins.com/showthread.php?t=298757 Fair enough, my bad. I do find it interesting that the media only seems to be focusing on Fat Al and his playing time and so far not one mention of RAK not playing DE. It was that god damned prevent defense we were playing on the receivers. What's the best way to counter a blitz, a quick pass slant or screen, and WE LET THEM DO IT. We didn't even try to cut that route off, it was the most incredibly frustrating thing to watch them convert 3rd and long after 3rd and long and Blache wouldn't do a thing about his corners. Uhhhh earth to Blache I'm watching the game on TV and can tell what the Giants are doing HOW THE HELL DO YOU NOT KNOW. You will never see any corner on any other team play that kind of D unless it's the fourth quarter and the other team is going for a hail mary. HailYeah
Wish we had an OLB so we had the option of playing Rak at DE.
ntotoro
only the redskins could screw up orakpo Don't tell Blache that. He's a genius in his own mind. I've never seen someone get so angry or defensive when he's questioned about the biggest problem with his Defense, then still does nothing about it. We have the talent and ability now, but Blache likes to stand on the sidelines with his bifocals and have the best DE in the draft starting a position he knows nothing about and is obviously ineffective. Brandon Lloyd Christmas
we got no pressure on the giants whatsoever. at this point id rather have rak at DE and chris wilson at LB. rak is not a LB. it was cute in the preseason, but its time to get some real heat. i have a feeling if we keep going this way, no heat, bad offense, bad QB play etc, danny is gonna blow this whole thing up again and bring in a pressure D guy and brand new O. mi6
only the redskins could screw up orakpo You are so right. If we need a LB we have them. Jarmon and Orakpo should be playing as DEs. And, special teams.

dallasfan
DeMarcus Ware took 3 games to get his first sack, and that's with him playing in a 3-4. As a college DE playing OLB in a 4-3, that's a huge adjustment, more so than guys like Ware, Merriman, Suggs, ect. IMO, he still end the season between 7 and 9 sacks, but he'll need some time. But imo, he'll play DE next year, either ACarter will be outed or more than likely the combination of PDaniels/RWynn
skinsfan07
DeMarcus Ware was also brought in to play DE, and the Cowboys converted him to LB. Just sayin........Dude led the NFL in sacks as a LB last year. I think Rak will be fine.
Xero21
I hope he is just a stop-gap at OLB because they believe Daniels has 1 year left. Not because I'm being a Debbie Downer; Orakpo may develop his LB skills, but I want a talent like that playing where he's at his best. All the time. ArmchairRedskin
This week, we should leave Daniels on the sideline and give Orakpo the Lion's share of LDE opportunities. The Rams have a rookie RT. Give Chris Wilson some time back there at LB. I think he can handle it.
