The Waterboy
Okay, so they are "quality control coachs" what ever that means or is. If the coaching staff roster is any sort of pyramid/pecking order, they rank just above the strength coaches (bottom of the list). According to Khayat's bio he: ".. is in his third season as the Redskins offensive quality control coach, and also assists with the tight ends." No where does it say what a QCC does or he does as a QCC... but it does say he works with the TEs... so is QCC short for junior assistant TE coach? Same with Graber ..."was named the Redskins’ defensive quality control coach on February 11, 2009. Garber brings 28 years of coaching experience with him to Washington, including 27 in the collegiate ranks." Well thanks. That's really helpful. So now we know there is one each offensive and defensive QCC on the Redskin coaching staff, but still lack any defintion of their job, value or importance. Maybe they grade the other coaches? Or they grade the game plan? Or are in charge of false starts? Or are just free agent coaches who roam the practice field handing out fines to players for perceived infractions, miscues, sloppy play? Green Bay once fired an QCC. It doesn't say what for...but must have had to do with low quality control or something. Who knows? Google suggests they are "advance men" who study and breakdown film of upcoming opponents for the O/D coordinators ... sort of assistants to the assistant. This is one explanation ... at least for the team being questioned. Is it true for the Redskin QCCs also? When is Matt Terry going to get to the bottom of the coaching staff pyramid and explain all this? Inquiring minds want to know.

A bit like Vinny is to Danny Boy, but on a smaller scale. Hail.
Gary@Redskins.com
Google suggests they are "advance men" who study and breakdown film of upcoming opponents for the O/D coordinators ... sort of assistants to the assistant. In this case, Google has it pretty close to right. Quality control coaches spend time on computers studying opponent's tendencies, breaking down portions of films and submitting reports to position coaches and coordinators. During practice, they usually work with a position coach and help run drills. On game days, sometimes they are up in the booth serving as another eyes and ears. QC coaches have evolved into an entry level job into coaching. Some of them get stuck into being QC coaches for a couple years until a position coaching job opens up. Granted, quality control doesn't appropriately describe what they do, but from what I've seen it's an important job.
Mackdaddydean
Granted, quality control doesn't appropriately describe what they do, but from what I've seen it's an important job. It does to me. They are helping control the quality of the product they put on the field and the quality of the coaching/scouting.

dg28daman
If I recalled, Bill Khayat was responsible for that 12 man on the field challange a couple years ago against the Vikings I believe?
RonJeremy
They are waterboys basically. It sounds better to call them Quality control instead of Water Boys. Kinda' like calling a Garbage man a "Sanitary Engineer".
Dan T.
Didn't Joe Gibbs' son have the title of quality control coach when he joined the coaching staff?
