I have seen multiple articles from Nebraska that have said Joe Ganz (QB from Nebraska) has also been signed as an undrafted free agent but have yet to see anything from the Redskins on this issue. Has anyone else heard this?

Looks like Colt Brennan doesn't exactly have a stranglehold on the 3rd string position. ;)

And now begins the onslaught against Campbell.

I could care less if its Pippy Long Stockings as long as we make it to the Superbowl.

Tired of the JC, Colt crap. It will take care of its self by the end of the season, TRUST ME

Here's what I thought was interesting about a statement that Chase Daniel said:

"They have three quarterbacks, and any three can make the team," Daniel said, according to The Star. "I'm excited about what's going to happen."

Does this mean JC might not?

And Kevin Barnes said Smoot was "getting older" lol...damn, these rookies are a ****y bunch, aren't they! :D

Only on ES would a statement like that mean the first string QB is in danger, not the 3rd string. lol

I'm a Nebraska Alumni. Ganz is a really decent quarterback who was highly rated. He was recruited by Callahan who had very good grades on his recruits, just lousy coaching against the grain in Nebraska before Shawn Watson got there. Watson used the spread system in Colorado and that's what he did at Nebraska last year as Coach Pelini kept him on staff. So, you have a well coached quarterback who was a top flight recruit out of high school and he got screwed over by being in the transition at Nebraska. He would have done very well and been drafted in the NFL had he played at any other school. He's in the Chase Daniel, Colt Brennan category at least. He can play pro-style, but played the spread at Nebraska. Their offense was good, but their defense sucked eggs which is why the Huskers are in purgatory now.

Ganz has been signed.

This is commentary from a Husker board:

dbhuskers (20) - I think there are two main reasons the Big

12 QBs (Harrell, Daniel, Ganz) didn't get drafted:

1 - Harrell and Daniel are seen as "system" guys who

excelled in offenses not tailored to the pro game. Once NU

became more reliant on zone reads and spread sets, Ganz fell

into this trap.

2 - None of the three meet the standards of the NFL

"prototype QB". Our boy Ganz is smaller, slower, and the

arm isn't as strong as some. While we know all about his

heart and determination, a pro team would rather have Josh

Freeman's measurables.

Yet another reason why the college game is more enjoyable

than the NFL.

---------------------------------------------------

1. Joe G is not in the top 6 of QB's to play at NU.

2. Joe G is talented and has the mental game to find a home

in the NFL.

3. Daniels has way more raw ability than Joe, and I think he

proved it to the Huskers on more than one occassion.

....all the above comes from probably one of the first

unbiased NU fans to post here

---------------------------------------------

This is perfect for Joe for a number of reasons:

1. Better than Tampa b/c they always take like 10 QBs and

drop em all leaving them with no chance to sign anywhere

else.

2. He can beat out Daniel and Brennan b/c neither one of

them can take a snap from under center... Daniel's last snap

from under center was back in pee-wee football lol

3. Joe is more talented and tougher than Daniel and Brennan.

Daniel always cried when he got hit last season, and Brennan

couldn't do anything against a rough Georgia defense.

---------------------------------------------

I don't understand the problem with a quarterbacks coming

out of the spread offense. Either you can make your

progressions and reads and hit the right receiver or you

can't. YOu can either scramble and throw on the run well

with accuracy or you can't. Ganz can do all of those things

and he has played in a pro-style offense for longer time in

college than the spread style. Ganz reminds me most of a

young Mark Brunell out of Washington. He played in a

similar "spread" type offense at UW, is not much over 6ft if

at all, did not have tremendous arm strength and he seemed

to make a pretty darn good NFL QB for many years because he

was accurate and made the right throws at teh right times

like Joe can do.

There were so many QB's taken that Joe is better than it is

not understandable.

Texas takes Stephen Mcgee of A&M ??? What the SMURF?

Joe could play him right off the field... no sense other

than he is a "Texas" boy. Looked more like a favor pick to

A&M or Sherman or whatever... made no sense.

Nebraska QB Ganz has NFL quality?

Shawn Watson said Nebraska senior quarterback Joe Ganz has always had great ball-placement on his throws, citing in particular a third-quarter 55-yard pass to Dreu Young that the offensive coordinator called NFL quality. "He leverages the ball where only our receiver can make the play. He's just got a feel for it," Watson said. "Some guys don't. They may have big arms and throw it through the wall. But if they don't have that, they're going to struggle at quarterback. Joe has that." -- Lincoln Journal Star

Nebraska's Ganz passes way to Player of Week

Updated 11/13/2007 1:06 PM

By Bruce Thorson, US Presswire

Nebraska quarterback Joe Ganz helped the Cornhuskers break a five-game losing streak with his big game against Kansas State.

Nebraska quarterback Joe Ganz passed for school-records of 510 yards and seven touchdowns against Kansas State to earn this week's USA TODAY's Player of the Week honor. The junior signal caller completed passes to nine different receivers as the Cornhuskers broke a five-game winning streak with a 73-31 defeat of the Wildcats. Ganz won the award with the support of college football editor Erick Smith and the fan voting.
