A Note to Dan Snyder About the Draft

Dear Dan,

Remember, teams that win the Superbowl do it with outstanding offensive and defensive lines. That has always been the winning ticket for NFC East teams who have played in more Superbowl games than any other conference.

Our offensive line is very weak. Samuels and Cooley are keepers, but the rest need to retire or be placed as 2nd or 3rd string backups. Jansen gets injured too many times and misses too many games. This has been going on for years now - time to retire.

Many of the mock drafts have Washington picking Andre Smith from Alabama. Do we really need a fat and lazy right tackle? There are better choices out there. Remember our last head case, Jeff George? We do absolutely need a right tackle, but we can do better than Andre Smith.

We also need a world class center, and both guards. Campbell gets one more year to prove himself and we need to provide him with better protection. He looked very lackluster the last six games last season. Maybe a fresh young offensive line can inspire this moribund young quarterback. This year is not the time to go for a new quarterback anyway. Next year McCoy and four others from OK, Fla, Alabama, and GA will be available and they're the hot picks next year. Someone needs to light a fire under Campbell or its bye bye at the end of next season.

Our defensive line still has no real pass rush. Other teams blitz successfully and we strain to get one or two sacks a game. In that game against Pittsburgh, their offensive line absolutely ruled us. We don't need wide receivers, running backs, corners (unless we can bring back Champ Bailey) or any other position other than offensive and defensive lineman. At least get some strong young defensive ends to help with the pass rush. The current guys are simply not getting it done.

There is going to be a lot of fresh new offensive lineman next year. Texas' offensive line will all be seniors next year as will many from Oklahoma and Florida. It will be a bumper crop. In the interim we need an outstanding right tackle to anchor the other side of the offensive line and a good center who can block. Couple these positions with two defensive ends and this will be a good draft year. We also need linebacker upgrades, but that is not as desperate as our needs for both lines.

Dan you can really make the Skins a superbowl contender for 2011 or 12 if you start now. Please don't blow it by wasting a good rebuilding year on positions that will have less impact than two strong, young, fast lines. - Hannibal the West Texas Redskin (Born in DC, lived in DC and have relatives in Alexandria, Silver Spring, Rockville and Glen Echo - Go Skins!)

If Andre Smith character checks out he is an animal whether he's at RT tackle, or guard, I personally would replace Rabach, Thomas, and anyone we have at RT tackle!

O-lineman in the 1st, center in the 3rd.

-I totally agree that the O-line needs help, it is the biggest issue right now that the skins face this offseason. Bringing back doc. will be an upgrade, but We really need at least one more real solid player to help the O-Line. I just dont konw it a 3rd rounder will get it done either, just look at what happend last year with Reinhart. Maybee he will be able to step it up this year and play a good role for us, that would be great.

Really?, The Mocks I reviewed said Mike Oher T or Brain Cushing LB.

We go Alabama style at O-line, Chris Samuels LOT, Dock G, Antoine Caldwell C (3th round pick, '09), Mike Johnson G (2 round pick, '10) and Andre Smith ROT (13th overal pick, '09).

I'm not a Bama fan, but all of these players realy can play.

Wenn the o-line and off. is fixed we can focus on D-line.

We need an offensive lineman? Can't believe we've never had a thread suggesting we draft an offensive lineman.

Seriously though, teams that win the Superbowl do it with outstanding offensive and defensive lines? I'd hardly call the Steelers' offensive line this past season outstanding.

Second, to the OP, would you really want us to draft an offensive tackle no matter who is sitting there at 13? Reaching for need is a recipe for absolute disaster if you are trying to build a contender for the next couple of years.

Lastly, I'm not sure why this thread is styled as a letter to Dan Snyder. I'm pretty sure Vinny Cerrato runs the draft.
