darrelgreenie
The Redskins, much like our hated rivals, are a team that relies heavily on production from the TE position. The Cowboys now face the prospect of playing without Jason Witten. But, unfortunately, they used a 2nd round draft pick on TE Martellus Bennett and likely won't have as drasitic a drop off in production at the TE position as we would all like. Fred Davis at the very least is the Chris Cooley insurance policy so the offense doesn't take a huge step back if Cooley couldn't play. Thoughts? Soup
Well why would they draft a TE if Davis wouldn't step in and help if Cooley got hurt? Is that not one of the reason you draft players?
Sonny9TD
I must say that is a good question. Ill have to see who we might have drafted instead. If he could be a threat it would wash but he has not contributed or hear that he will. Not saying he wont but where is he? Especially at the price of a 2nd rounder. That's what we gave for Jason Taylor.
gaskinsfan
I think that overall the skins had a good draft in 08. But the one pick I was very surprised at was Fred Davis. Not that he is a quality player, or his value in round 2, but it was really not an area of need. Defense would have been higher on the list, either D line or secondary/linebacker. Thinking Skins
do we have to have this discussion every day of every week?
redskinmickey
on the john thompson show today, Springs said that Davis was going to go down as the best player that the skins drafted this year. He is really impressed and said the only time they have been able to cover him is when he missed a practice.(lol)
Leonard Washington
do we have to have this discussion every day of every week? Ok lets talk about Kelly and Thomas.
Cept One
Well Davis has been pretty effective blocking on some of those big runs CP has broken and Jason over thru him on what should have been a TD against Cleveland. So give him some time...
KyleVA
We drafted him because our drafting "strategy" was to strictly take the highest 'rated' player remaining on the draft board.

Just like Martellus Bennett is Jason Witten's. Does anyone bother to read the OP?
dustinwhylee
Ok lets talk about Kelly and Thomas. What happened???? Did Kelly bruise an ear? Did Thomas hide the refs flags?
KyleVA
I mean, come on, let's atleast take a look at the bright side - they haven't got in any trouble off the field. And hopefully next season they'll have acclimated to the NFL game speed.
kingjames
davis is a huge dude. we need to give him a jump ball inside the red zone.
emor09
maybe we didn't draft him to contribute this year how long do you think Yoder will be around? 10 more years?
WSHRedskins3ATLBraves3
I know why we drafted him. He was the best player available. It's that simple.

I do believe Yoder would come in whether I like it or not since Davis is a 3rd string 2nd rounder. Like I said if he can produce at a high level then the draft pick is fine but can he produce being a 3rd string. Maybe they get rid of Yoder next year and Davis is the new rave. kvarlo12000
you know there is one player who comes to mind that we could have drafted in that spot. I forget his name but he has like 3 int's and a fumble recovery this year. I think his name is Chris Borten or something like that.
HailGreen28
I really hope he was the BPA. And will work out in a year or two. Yoder isn't getting any younger. Otherwise it would suck that we drafted depth at TE when we need starting help at OL, DT, DE.....
YoCoLifSavr
I agree. Every week there is a thread about draft picks in general. Its always "Why did we draft Thomas, Kelly or Davis"... do we have to have this discussion every day of every week?
ArmchairRedskin
At this point I'm thinking we drafted him for ES thread fodder.
TheREALJBird
Best player available. First round talent that we got mid 2nd round. He's gonna be fine, he'll see the field sooner or later, then we can really utilize the 2 TE set as both Cooley and Davis provide matchup problems
deejaydana
I think some (not all, but a few people) accuse Davis out of nothing more than ignorance. The guy was a baller at USC and we simply haven't utilized him yet. It's that simple.
