dockeryfan
I guess Blind Faith could be considered a supergroup as well.
GrapeApe
Not really a group I like much but the first one that came to mind when I saw this tread is Asia (Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer, King Crimson).
China
Could you consider Cream a superband?Traveling Wilburys 1st album was very good. 2nd was mediocre at best, they lost all momentum when Roy Orbison died. According to Wiki, yes, because of the members previous band affiliations. Blind Faith is one that I love. The Wiki site is interesting, I never considered Cream or CSNY as "Superbands". One I forgot about was Asia. And one that never came to be was XYZ. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supergroup_%28bands%

ECU-ALUM
I don't know if this counts but I will never forget watching VH-1 in 1996 they had an All-Star band for a cancer benefit. It was shown once live and then one more time right after on tape and then that was it. Among some of those in the band: Eddie Van Halen, Richie Sambora and Sheryl Crow on Guitar Paul Schaffer and Steve Winwood on keyboards Don Henley on drums The tower of power horns They performed oldies none of their songs...the highlight of the evening (IMO)...Bryan Adams & John Mellencamp trading lyrics on "I fought the law." dockeryfan
ASIA. ugh. That was a failure. Lots of talent...no product. Reminds me of GTR. They had the best album review I ever read. In Musician magazine. It was three letters. SHT.
PokerPacker
Avantasia- members come and go, but there has been representation from many different bands in this one: Tobias Sammet (Edguy) Michael Kiske (Helloween) Kai Hanson (Gamma Ray, Helloween) Timmo Tolkki (Stratovarious) Roy Khan (Kamelot) Alice Cooper (as in THE Alice Cooper) Henjo Richter (Gamma Ray) Markus Grosskopf (Helloween) Alex Holzwarth (Rhapsody of Fire) Jens Ludwig (Edguy) Sasha Paeth (Kamelot) Michael Rodenberg (Kamelot) Rudolph Schenker (Scorpions) Eric Singer (Kiss, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper) awesome band, highly recommended. EersSkins05
Does Guns N' Roses count? It was the meshing of LA Guns and Hollywood Rose. Though Hollywood Rose never had anything that I've really heard of, apparently they were moderately successful before GNR. And LA Guns had some really good tunes. thehogs
Rainbow, with Dio and Ritchie Blackmore Ah! Richie! my God of Guitar! Certainly Blackmore around about the late 70's could rip the sh*t out of most guitar players on the planet! Not sure I would classify Rainbow as a 'Supergroup' - Elf (Dio's previous band) were fairly unknown at the time, although they had toured with the likes of Deep Purple as support band. It was really from Rainbow onwards that people thought 'woah! what is that sound!?!'. Astounding voice. So much power that he could still carry songs well in to his 50's that others cant get close to. As for Blackers - I doubt he would stay on stage long enough for any Supegroup gig to last! the clash of ego's would be astounding
nyskinsfan56
Golden SmogThrough the years they have had members from The Jayhawks, Soul Asylum, Son Volt, Wilco and Big Star. Great if you like jangly mid-america music. Good choice. Hell, Pecan Pie may just be played at my wedding during the cake cutting...cupcakes that is...and pecan pie for me I'd like to call for a reverse Superband and merge SV and Wilco back together into Uncle Tupelo.
