Raves from Casserly

With all this in mind as people begin to focus on the Sunday showdown between Dallas and New England, the Washington-New England game on Oct. 28 might be just as exciting, with the added intrigue of two Hall of Fame coaches matching wits. They have faced each other only once as head coaches, but that was in 1991 when Bill Belichick was in Cleveland. However, they did face each other quite often when Belichick was the New York Giants defensive coordinator from 1984-1990.

Damn Skippy. :applause: :notworthy

I don't agree with him about the pats game. that team is just perfect, they look like the 1991 skins just running over people like its nothing. I hate that the skins have to play them but at least the whole nfc east will too.

I have a lot of respect for Charlie Casserly. The way he moved up the food chain with the Skins for many years and into the GM role. He received a lot of flack for some first round picks that never panned out, i.e. Desmond Howard, Heath Shuler and a couple others, but it was Gibbs that wanted Howard and Norv wanted Heath as Casserly wanted Dilfer who proved to be the better QB (obviously). That was a poor draft for QB as I recall. He also goofed on Westbrook, but many teams would have made that mistake.

He was better at 2nd round through 7th round and engineering trades. He also was a genius at plan b free agency and keeping players under the cap. During Casserly's tenure we had no problems with the cap.

I'd take Casserly back in a heartbeat, especially over Vinny I'm a good raquetball player Cerrato.

i agree with his points about the Oline. if Fabini and Wade develop some chemistry, I think the downgrade from Thomas/Jansen won't be as dramatic. I hope especially for the running game.

I disagree. The dropoff from Jansen to Wade may not be too dramatic (other than from a depth perspective), but Thomas to Fabini is huge. Wait until sufficient tape is gathered on Fabini in there - teams will start exploiting his deficiencies. The NE game will be really telling. If Fabini can make it through that game without being worked, I'll feel a lot better about him (though the 3-4 D that they run may not be a great predictor). Hopefully, the team will be able to mask him as much as possible.

Fabini has held his own and I'm not complaining about him. He's performed commendably considering it's a new position for him. But, Randy Thomas is an out-and-out stud. He brings things to the table that we couldn't hope to replace with Fabini. I wouldn't trade him for any other OG in the league. I pray that he is able to make it back for the stretch run.

Charlie Casserly is one of a kind. He is married to my Dad's cousin. We were all at a Family BBQ last year right before the 2006 season started and he told us to watch Jason Campbell's development and that he will be the real deal as long as our system stays the same for more than one year. Looks like he was right. Charlie has always been a Joe Gibbs supporter and from what I know they are still good friends today.

That' my same approach, and the reason why we cannot let games at home slip away from us. But the man speaks the truth, and that's why I like our chances and take Joe Gibbs and this coaching staff come playoff time. And due to the fact we're still working out kinks on the OL due to injuries, guys being injureid and trying to stay healthy. And, a young QB that only has a few games under his belt.

Also, must we mention 2 of our defense of studs in Mcintosh and Landry. Mcintosh is really a rookie after not really playing last year, and Landry is a true rookie, and they're both playing tremendous ball. While teams like Dallas and Greenbay are in full form early, what you see is what you get. And what we saw last nite during the Dallas/Bills game. Dallas is now in for the taking after being exposed by a fairly weak and depleted defense(see Bills).

And the Redskins are just getting started and everyones getting acclimated with one another (see ARE). Also, throw in the fact that our OL like Casserly said are just starting to get into sync with one another. Then, add in Caldwell, Mccardell and now Lloyd possibly getting out of the dog house. We now are starting to form a recieving corps that's going to have to be dealt with. Also, Moss hasn't really played up to his potential with Jason Campbell yet and (vice-versa). And don't sleep on James Thrash, the guy showed us against the Lions that he's still a playmaker, and I hope they put him at PR/KR opposed to the usual.

Add all of this with our players development under Saunders still, and you will see Saunders start smacking teams entirely with that playbook. And what we saw against the Lions was just a glimpse.

So, again. That's why I was really pissed when we lost the Giants game. Because we could have beaten them at half at the time, and then beat them again at full speed at the meadowlands if no injuries. Because IMO, I also see and knew the Giants would get better especially on defense as the season went on as we're starting to see. And strahan wasn't even close to full speed when we played them. Now! IMO. I can see that defense of line getting better as games go on with the players they have. And come the next Giants/Dallas game, I see the Giants taking that one.

But in our case, we play the Giants and Cowboys kind of late in the schedule which I really like. Because by then, I think our Redskins will be much more improved opposed to early during the season. And after a few Cowboy losses and exposure, we can take both games.

Casserly made the smart move (at the time) in getting Mario Williams over Reggie Bush and Vince Young... David Carr will probably prove in Carolina that the Texans shouldn't have given up on him, and Domanick Davis wasn't injured at the time of the draft. Meanwhile, they had one of the worst defensive lines... Next year, they will probably have one of the best... and Mario Williams has 3 sacks in 5 games (not bad for a 2nd year player)... BTW, his 2nd round pick that year of DeMeco Ryans is often overlooked.

Vince Young... 3TDs and 5INTs in 4 games and a 67 QB rating. The Titans win games, but it is really because of Vince Young or good coaching, running and defense? Would his style have worked in Houston?

Reggie Bush... For his career, he is a "specialist" who is averaging only 3.5 yards a carry and 7.6 yards a catch... At this point, how can people give Casserly crap for not drafting Bush?

Some of the ESPN anaylsts (Mike ditka I think) are saying that the effort your seeing from the pats is whats causing them to play the way they are right now, but they hinted that they doubted the pats could keep that kind of production up, particularly on defense for 16 games. I'm of the opinion that the mystique is a mirage.

In the defense of the people who give Casserly crap for that pick (like me), Reggie Bush would be a completely different player in a one-cut, ZBS system like Kubiak runs. He's being used terribly in the I-Back lead system that Payton insists on using in New Orleans, and now that he's become the "feature" back, they won't even use him in the slot and other places that will highlight his talent.

Even now, if you get Reggie Bush in space, it's all over. But Payton is not doing a good job of utilizing him. Which is odd, because he seems to be struggling to do that all over the field. Last year he did a TERRIFIC job of using his talent and forming his scheme around the guys he had; now it seems that with more confidence and more self-assurance, he's decided his ideas are bulletproof and the players had better tailor their game to his philosophy.
