I've never truly seen the kid play. So I'm going by the stats. He's a DE and this is what you all want to to trade down for. He's only had one good year. He seems like a Kenard Lang kind of player. Has he done any pro day workouts yet?

He didnt do anything at the combine and hasn't had his pro day workout yet. He could be a fantastic prospect, but the bottom line is that there seem to be half a dozen defensive line prospects worth taking in the first half of the first round. If we trade down a few spots and still get one, we'll have done our job.

Trading down is trading draft picks with a team that picks after you in an attempt to acquire more picks, often picking up an extra 2nd or 3rd rounder by just moving down 5-10 spots.

Theres so many good prospects in the draft this year at the D-Line that the F.O. and coaches seem to be thinking of trading down and getting an extra 2nd and maybe 3rd rounder to get a few more good players to help the team next year, as opposed to going after a guy who they're not sure of yet.

Basically Anderson has big potential, but is a little risky because he's coming out after his breakout year. I can't fault him for only putting up 4 sacks in his Soph year, a lot of players dont coming into their own untill their third year. And the fact that he did it in a good division helps his cause. And he's got the size and measurables you look for. I prefer him to Gaines Adams because of his size and the fact that he looks like he will be a more well rounded DE. Adams could end up being a pass rush specialist.

But still, I think trading down, at least to the low teens, would be very beneficial. Pick up an extra pick or two, and still get the chance at good DL prospects like Adam Carriker and Amobi Okoye.

Thanks man, I appreciate that

Jamaal Anderson went to college as a wide receiver. They asked him to switch to defensive end before his sophomore year. So he has two full years of playing defensive end. His strengths are he is only going to get better, hes big, can put on more weight without losing speed, he is strong, will only get stronger, he is a great pass rusher, and he is just as good at rushingthe passer as he is at stopping the run, he has a Peppers frame. the only weakness I've read is that he is slow getting off the line at the snap, which can be improved on. I think he has a fantastic boatload of potential and raw talent.

I think if he continues to get better, he'll be like a quasi - Seymore/Peppers.

Right on Siven.

Jamaal Anderson was one of the top 50 WR in the nation as a SR in high school. He was recruited to Arkansas as a WR and moved over to DE his Soph season due to lack of depth. He put on close to 70 pounds over the past 2 years. Obviously between adding the wieght and switching positions there was a learning and growing "curve". hence a lack of production as a soph. But then most players don do alot as a soph either. Gaines Adams was basically invisible as s soph, and only as a 4th year jr and 5th year senior did he really do alot.

So, basically, he has a ton of physical ablity but is rather raw and while he has tremendous upside, still has some questions on how ready he is to play at the pro level. Will probably need alot of coaching on technique when he gets up here. However, us upside is really really high.

This is why having only one pick on day one of the draft sucks. None of these guys is a slam dunk.

Hell, even when you think you have a slam dunk prospect, you end up drafting courtney brown.

There really isn't such a thing as a slam dunk in the draft. Bottom line is that nobody knows how a player will change and adapt to the pro level. That is why coaches scout as much as possible and pick the guy they think has the best chance of being what they want or being an impact player at the next level. I think that, out of all of the DEs in the draft, Anderson has the most upside by a good margin. Yes he is raw, but that isn't always a bad thing because an NFL coach will get to shape him and teach him more technique. It is also easier for a guy who is still raw to get rid of bad habits as well as improve on areas of his game.

Could he be a bust? Sure. Any draft pick could be...including the ones we would be likely to get if we traded down to get an extra pick. That or they could just end up being average NFL players or depth guys, which won't really do much to help our horrid pass rush. Anderson has something important that, as far as I can tell, the other DEs higher up there don't, and that is the size to stuff the run along with excellent pass rushing ability. That is what we need. The closest thing to him is Carriker who I think will be a solid NFL player, but doesn't have as much potential to be a stud since he isn't as athletic and doesn't have nearly the upside of Anderson.

I'm leery of the guy to be honest. All four of these guys make me nervous for different reasons, Adams because of his frame, and the fact that his production was good, but not freakishly good considering his "athletic ability", Anderson because he's only done it once, Branch because he plays a position and at a weight that can make for a lazy/unmotivated individual, and lastly Okoye (my favorite in terms of value/cost effectiveness) whose a bit short, and very, very young (but highly intelligent and not a knucklehead based on all reports). I really don't know who the best guy to get would be, though my preference is probably towards Adams and Okoye. Hence why we (and probably the team) would like to move down. i get the sense they aren't sure either.
